The lack of change in Twilicorn's life now that she's become a princess.

I know the creators said that even though Twilight became a princess they were still going to go with slice of life stories for the most part, but at current there seems to be absolutely NO change. In the season premier the only reason Twilight stepped up was because the Luna and Celestia were taken out of commission. She doesn't seem to have any princess duties and can do whatever she wants, although her focus right now is on the box from the tree of harmony. Celestia doesn't even send one or two of her royal guards for protection. I understand that having royal guards following her everyone would be annoying, though. Since they're only bit characters they would probably be as effective as any other time they show up.

You can't just keep everything the same when you ascend to royalty. You can't ever use the excuse of not wanting to cause a major shift in the show because simply her transforming to an alicorn and becoming a princess IS a major shift to some. Although for me personally, it didn't bother me a bit that Twilight became an alicorn.

Well her ascension to alicorn-hood was rather unexpected. Celestia had an idea for what was going to happen when she nudged Twilight along with Starswirl's spell, but still no one was really expecting her to become an actual princess.

My assumption is that Celestia and Luna were just caught a bit off-guard and don't have anywhere to put her. Even Cadence was in the same situation that Twilight is in up until the Crystal Empire was freed and Equestria apparently annexed it and installed her as monarch.

Other than her getting sent back to Ponyville partway through the premiere (which is generally regarded as one of the weaker and unnecessary points of the episode) I don't really see how any of the episodes of this season would be terribly different if Twilight were a unicorn, up until this point. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate. The rest of the season and episodes focused on her more will probably change this, though.

There will be a shift of change soon, we just don't know when. Nobody expected her to become princess, or even her ascension into becoming an alicorn. Cadence was in the same position as Twilight, until the Crystal Empire was out of Sombra's imprisonment.

Her ascension didn't bother me either, I think the change was unexpected to everypony in general.

I don't think we have been given a chance to see any real change yet. None of the current episodes after the premiere have focused on her specifically so it is too early to tell.

I also think that they might be trying to focus more on some other characters now that Twilight has achieved her destiny. I would like to see some of the effects though, to create new stories. :) I have nothing but love for the fact that Twilight is a princess so it would be fun to explore.

And that's exactly the point I was making. There doesn't appear to be any noticeable change to her lifestyle at the moment. She still lives in ponyville in the library, acts casual with her friends, doesn't have any guards, etc.

Yep, I was agreeing with you. Up until this point, it's really nothing like the massive change that it was built up to be in the S3 finale. Which I'm fairly happy for, and Twilight doesn't seem to want it to alter her life and how she interacts with the people around her more than it has to, but it certainly seems like it would. Like I said though, when there's an episode that she's the main character of, it'll likely involve her princesshood somehow.

I guess its just because she hasn't been focused on in an episode besides the premier yet.

Honestly her not having changed doesn't bother me much though ;p.

I'm sure as the season progressing her princesshood will be explained more i guess.

I'm guessing that since the alicorn thing did spark alot of uproar among fans, the dev team decided that downplaying her status throughout the season (and likely even the rest of the show) would be a good way to slowly regain the fanbase's good graces.

And from a story standpoint, look at it this way; ever since the very first 2 episodes of this show, Equestria has come to rely on the Mane 6 alot to solve half their problems, and the strong bond they all have for each other has always been key to their triumphs, so doing anything that would compromise their friendship would at worst put the safety of Equestria at stake.

Heck, I suspect if there's any real moment that Twilight's status as a princesshood is gonna come to play, it's either if an episode's plot will center around it, or to use her authority as a tool to help further the goals of her and her friends. Or at very least present an episode plot that justifies the need for her to be a princess.

Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria?

they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.

Turning her into an alicorn princess was a decision by Hasbro. The writers never intended to make major changes to the show.

It's a show about six friends who live near each other. If Twilight moves back to Canterlot, Rarity moves to Manehatten, and Rainbow Dash moves to whereever the Wonderbolts train they would probably keep in touch but that's pretty much the end of the show.

Well, maybe Twilight wants to take things slowly right now before becoming a full princess. Besides it would be odd for 2 guards to be following her around all time and guarding the front door to a Library. Still it's only been 5 episodes. Maybe they do something later in time.

you could still swing it.

the episodes would have gaps in time.  Holidays and specail occasions where everyone got together.

what could be more slice of life than getting together with friends for the holidays?

Oh the kingdoms falling apart, twilight dear gather your friends.

Hell it wouldn't be any more contrived than it has been.

This is something that was a concern of mine since I first found out about the Alicorn rumors.

How much change is the right amount of change? Too much, and the show is unrecognizeable. Too little and the whole Alicorn thing is pointless. For me, it's looking kind of pointless aside from the premiere. Between the last three episodes and the next four coming up, things are looking pretty much the same aside from a pair of wings, which makes me wonder why the change was necessary to begin with (besides being Hasbro's orders). All the new story potential that the pro Twilicorn crowd was lauding doesn't seem to be happening yet, at least not for several episodes. At the same time, it's not the end of the show, like a lot of naysayers were predicting.

Now we can't just jump straight in as we've only gotten to the 5th episode out of a 26 episode season. We haven't had an episode based around just Twilight yet, and the episodes Princess Twilight Sparkle, we saw plenty of her being recognized as a princess. But they aren't just going to rub our face in to it with every episode. I think we've gotten a very fair share of Princess Twilight thus far. From her taking charge, to following Princess Celestia's recommendation to going to the old castle and continuing on in their quest for the keys. Plus, do not forget, she is still learning. You can't expect an episode to pop up with Celestia dropping Twilight in a kingdom somewhere and telling her to have at it. It's going to be a very slow process.

Plus, the BIGGEST reason why we haven't seen much of Twilight yet, is because no one wants to set around for 26 episodes of Hasbro rubbing our nose in to alicorn Twilight. Be calm, there are more episodes and seasons to come, don't rush a good thing!

I've come to think that there are rightfully two story arcs this season: the box and Twilight. Clearly the writers have started on the first, but not so much the later. My feeling has always been they needed to include something about Twilight in each episode, even if it's a small thing. This seems better than in all one episode.

I was hoping that the season premier would get into this a bit more and while it was a good episode was not the final nudge to sell me on twilicorn which makes me still neutral. It is still early in the season though so there is plenty of time to elaborate but while change for the sake of change not being a good thing was one of my main criticisms against twilicorn everything remaining completely the same would make the whole thing seem pointless.

I wouldn't change a thing about Princess Twilight. She is still so adorable even as she tries to live a normal life aside from her royal duties. Still, I was a bit taken aback when "Alicorn Twilight" was first publicized............. I did not see it coming, even after "Games Ponies Play."

Hmmm... Equestria (especially Ponyville) is kind of Utopian place, so it's likely that Celestia didn't think something might happen to Twily, even if she lives with no guards.

But, it would be interesting to see her participating more in politics, though. Being a princess, she should have some power, not live an everyday life. Anyway, it's likely also due the fact that Twilight is very young. She is a prodigy, but that doesn't make her older. Probably Celestia just doesn't want to put so much pressure on her at the very moment. Or she just thinks that Twily would be more useful this way.

Anyway, I do believe that her lifestyle won't be completely the same. She already had one royal duty, and she'll probably have much more. Just, not yet.

Bare in mind that the ascension to Princess was relatively rushed, and even though that Twilight does have the box to worry about, shouldnt she be getting the same treatment as Luna and Celestia?

Then again, come to think about it, nothing was said about Twi becoming immortal or living for thousands of years.

Eh. Perhaps being a princess is not all it is cracked up to be.

It could just be that Twilight prefers her old lifestyle and only wants to step up when Celestia and Luna are unable too.

If it means anything; Twilight is going to have her own castle presumably from out of The royal sisters old castle.

Wrong. The Alicorn bit was Hasbro, but Princess Twilight has been the plan from the beginning, according to Lauren Faust.

It is confirmed that Twilight won't outlive her friends. That either means she is not immortal, or it means all of her friends will become immortal.

Regarding the thread as a whole, @@Kyoshi,  is right. I fully agree. The whole purpose of the premiere was to work out some concerns about Twilicorn, and to also show that her character is pretty much peaked. I have said this numerous times on these forums. Twilight has pretty much achieved her destiny, and overcome most of her flaws. Her character is pretty much done. All that's left is for Celestia to hand over the crown. It has also been established in the premiere that Twilight wants to be treated mostly normally by people, and live as normally as she can given her duties. Everything about Twilight is pretty much worked out. If there were any focus on her, it would be redundant, and stale.

All the writers need to do is throw stuff in from time to time- brief regressions of character, like in the premiere, just so we know that Twilight still struggles with her flaws. But any more than that and it would be repetitive, and un-entertaining.

And this is intentional, as well. Twilight has been mostly capped in order to give other characters a chance to grow. It allows for other ponies to get some love, like the CMC, and even background ponies, if we are to recall Q&As. Twilight being pretty much the best she'll ever be means that we can now focus on other character arcs, and I like that. All they need to do is nod at Twilight's character development from time to time- a brief regression; a reference to some flaw; somepony giving her some respect- and it will be enough for me.
