How can the show explore the dynamic between the CMC members?

I think that the CMC need to take a little step forward in the show by demonstrating that while they are a unit they have flaws in their relationship (like the Mane 6). The relationship couldn't properly be expanded upon in one episode, but here's one possible idea for an episode that would explore this concept:

Episode Title: 'Here is My Hoof' (named after the 1930's play "Here is My Heart")

Synopsis: When the CMC decide to tryout for the Ponyville school musical and only Sweetie Belle makes the cut, the crew's relationship is strained and Sweetie Belle is left with a dilemma.

Note: Sweetie's motivation would be sparked by Rarity exclaiming how she "loves watching the musical with [her] dear friends," she would then inform AB and Scoots who gladly tag along.

Do you all have any ideas to explore the CMC's relationship? Do you think this episode idea would work? Feel free to discuss your thoughts below!

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

I think this sounds really good! I have noticed there never seem to be any issues between the CMC's, except in Flight to the Finish. This would definitely make for a very interesting plot. Either way, Sweetie Belle should feature in more episodes, especially when she sings, because she's the best filly ever.

I'm glad you like it, I put quite a bit of thought into it. Probably too much.

Sounds good to me, but could you elaborate on this part for me? I don't understand.

Ok, Sweetie Belle mentions casually to Rarity that their school is having a play, showing little interest until Rarity mentions how much she enjoys watching the play every year (implied to be annual). Sweetie Belle figures that she can impress her sis and gets AB and Scoots knowing they might want to do it to impress AJ and Dashie respectively.

Ah, so it's part of the rising action rather than the resolution. I thought that note was the latter.

Sounds great, then. :D

Yea, sorry if I was unclear.

The point of the CMC is to give those three a common goal that unites them together. This is probably as long they are blanks. If a divide was to occur then it would be when one or two gets a cutie mark. It would essentially change things up as the ones with CM wouldn't need to experiment with the others?

I've always thought that the CMC seem to get along to well. With all of the failed cutie mark attempts, you think at some point they would bicker at each other and start blaming each other, tell the point where they break up. Now they would get back together by the end of the episode, but it would be alright to see them made with one another.

Some ideas are.

1. Get's cutie mark and their head get's a little big.

2. One is starting to be unreliable and that makes them mad with each them.

3. The break up because they blame each other.

You're right! The show should explore the dynamic between the CMC members.

First of all, let me list the episodes that focus on the CMC including the episodes where just one member has the spotlight:

  • Focus on all three:
    • Stare Master (Being babysat by Fluttershy)
    • The Show Stoppers (Talent Show)
    • The Cutie Mark Chronicles (Mane 6 Backstories)
    • Hearts and Hoofs Day (Valentine's Day episode with Cheerilee and Big McIntosh)
    • Ponyville Confidential (Newspaper Business)
    • One Bad Apple (with Babs Seed)
    • Just for Sidekicks (while not the focus, they still played an important role in this Spike-focused episode)
  • Focus on Apple Bloom:
    • Bridle Gossip (While the focus is on the Mane 6 and Zecora, she does play an important role in the plot)
    • Call of the Cutie (She "officially" meets the others at episode's end)
    • Cutie Pox (with Zecora playing a major role)
    • Family Appreciation Day (with Granny Smith)
    • Apple Family Reunion (with Babs Seed; although they're not the Mane Focus)
  • Focus on Scootaloo:
    • Sleepless in Ponyville (while camping with the other members and their sisters)
    • Flight to the Finish (Partway through, the spotlight goes from all three to Scootaloo)
  • Focus on Sweetie Belle:
    • Sisterhooves Social (Arguments with Rarity; Applejack and Apple Bloom play major roles in the plot)

As you can see, Sweetie Belle's only got one episode with her in the limelight, so yes, there should be an episode that focuses a little bit more on Sweetie Belle.

You are so right!

From what we've seen from the Cutie Mark Crusaders, even when they start to doubt themselves they will still stick together as a unit to complete the one common goal that put them together in the first place. We should have an episode focus on each of them individually which we have seen, Sweetie Belle needs another chance to shine.

I believe they should explore the dynamic a bit more, but I don't think it necessarily means the CMC have to fight a lot. One of the things I love about the CMC is how tight their friendship is. I like that they seem to naturally agree and fit most of the time, because there really are some friendships that are perfect like that and I think a show about friendship should showcase all kinds of friendships.

I think a good way to explore the dynamic without having fights is to have one of them get their cutie mark and then feel sad about no longer being a crusader. Or once they all have their marks they can start to feel awkward about the friendship because they no longer have a reason to hang out together. Of course, they would pull together and solve these problems, making their friendship even stronger.

After Flight to the Finish, I hypothesize that Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom will both get similar episodes this season which test the friendship, culminating at the Equestria games where one or all of them will get their cutie mark.

I hope you're right, it seems plausible.

I thought they were sorta kinda doing that all along. The entire time they've been going on cutie mark crusades, they've really been learning about friendship, each other, and themselves.  :)

I don't have any ideas off the top of my head that could execute this concept in the cartoon.  But it is something that, if done well, can help keep the series fresh and relevant as we enter season 5.

I think they probably did that all along with the episodes they're in but there's still the matter of more episodes for Sweetie Belle.

Seriously, we need more episodes of her where she's in the spotlight and explain of her situations that could test the friendship between her, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo.

Honestly, I fell for something a bit..different. I really loved the idea that I read about in one fanfiction I read. However, its not complete, so bare with me.

The idea from one of my fave slice of life fanfics was that Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle broke apart because of a misunderstanding that they had. Apple Bloom was offended at Sweetie Belle for saying that the farm and its decor (really, anything in the range of Rarity's "uncouth.")weren't 'up to par' unlike the what she wanted to do. She actually insulted the farm at some point in question. Apple Bloom, in retaliation, fired back instead insulting Sweetie Belle. They start fighting and the CMC ultimately break up.Well...except for Scootaloo. She's dragged into the mix when they fight. So, basically, she has to go back and forth to each other, but not actually choose one side or the other. The story wasn't complete, so its not resolved yet. Yet, you can insert an ending. Maybe Scootaloo gets fed up with having to choose between both parties and decides to make them decide instead. I really wouldn't want any corny adult intervention just like in One Bad Apple.

I like it because its very realistic. She can't choose Apple Bloom or else Sweetie Belle won't be her friend. She can't choose Sweetie or Apple Bloom won't be her friend. She, however, doesn't like being dragged into the battle when they are fighting because you know damn well that NO ANSWER is BEST ANSWER. Seriously, never right. If you tweeked it, then you can get something amazing outta it.
