Twilight Sparkle is my favorite pony. I relate to the character and even if I didn't, she has the best personality I think. For secondary, I would pick the CMC as a tie (No Spike? ). Third background character would be Derpy. And I think Diamond Tiara is a secondary character. Not background.

why doesn't Rarity have the love? I mean, I get princess Luna, the outcast, people tend to gravitate towards the outcasts.

Yeah! Rarity is my favorite singer, and my favorite martial artist in Equestria. She is in fact my third favorite character overall, with Twilight in the second place.

As for the mane 6 char: Twilight, because I can relate to her the most. If I were a pony, I'd probably be a unicorn anyway, (Which, inciendially, is my OC anyway), I love books, all that fun scientific stuff. As for the side pony, I had a hard choice with this one, but background pony was absolutely Doctor Whooves. It was that or Octavia, as I love classical music and things of the sort.

  Side note: As for the musical ponies, I find Vinyl/DJ Pon-3 intrigueing, but in my mind class always beats swagger, whcih is why I like Octavia more than than Vinyl.

Twilight- relatability

2nd Rainbow Dash- 20% cooler.

and my third favorite, close tothese,

Fluttershy- also, for relatability.

Secondary: Easily said: Scootaloo. Big Macintosh can be really funny as well, my personal second favorite secondary character.

Tertiary: Derpy... Derp  Vinyl Scratch would have to be second there.

Mane 6: Twilght, I find my personality being closest to hers of all the mane 6. I also just like her character. Also I love it when she goes cray cray.

Secondary: Cutie Mark Crusaders: I didn't like their episodes at first but now they're some of my favorites.

My favorite ponies:

• Mane 6 - Fluttershy. I seem to relate a lot to her. In real life, I'm a very kind person, also a shy one, and I seem to find it hard to assert myself.
• Princess - Princess Luna. I seem to like her a lot. Actually even more than Fluttershy.
• Background Pony - I like both Octavia and DJ P0N-3 equally. Vinyl because he's awesome and Tavi because of her classical taste in music. (Mind you, I have different favorite genres of music, so maybe my taste in music is rather random. xD) But if I had to pick one, it's got to be DJ P0N-3. I liked her first before I felt an equality of likes for both Vinyl and Tavi.
• CMC - Uh, I think I like 4 of them equally.
• Villain - Discord. He was the best antagonist amongst the 3 other villains.

If I had to only pick one from what I have mentioned above, my most favorite amongst all of them would have to be Princess Luna. I just seem to like her a lot, and I do mean a lot.

I would be committing a crime if I didn't say Derpy. She's funny. I also like Granny Smith, Don't know why, she's just a cute old lady ^^ Also, Fluttershy is cute, too. I love how she's so shy, but stuck up for her friends to a dragon. Seems very brave for her, and I practically worship her for it, lol.
