Non-Male Bronies LET ME HEAR YOU!

  • Have you ever felt ignored/left out due to your gender? Nope, not in the slightest. Seriously, there are far worse fandoms than MLP for doing that; for example, rock and metal. There are far too many guys who think that women can't ever be real rockers/metallers. Another fandom is football (soccer to you Americans). I've often had guys say, "Oh, you obviously just support Spurs cuz your fiance does". Um, I've been into football and supported that team since I was a little kid. I have photographic evidence.

  • How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male? Not really bothered; I just ignore it. My main beef is the assumption that all fans are teenagers. I'm thirty four and an old skool MLP fan. I was playing with My Little Pony when a lot of bronies were just a twinkle in their father's eye! :P

Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth? No more and no less than other fandoms. But I agree that fakes are annoying. I don't mind someone admitting that they're a newbie geek, it's just irritating if they try and pretend that they're experts on a particular fandom. Especially if they then decide to write horrible fanfic drivel starring their self inserted vapid Mary Sue.

Have you ever felt unsafe in this fandom, and how do you feel about the growing stigma that the fandom is an unsafe place for non-males? LOL. Who the hell thinks that? If it's about the whole "clop" thing, then people really ought to open their eyes. The Sonic fandom is rife with such things and has been ever since the birth of the internet. I've never felt unsafe as a pegasister, cuz most male fans are very respectful. As for the others.... well, put it this way. There's a group of people known as arseholes who can turn up in any place on the internet or real life, and be a part of any fandom. The only way to deal with them is to ignore them.

Anything else you would like to discuss Not as such, no. XD

I find it interesting that question 4 seems to be generating a resounding "who the hell would say such a ridiculous thing???". Admittedly, part of what made me withdraw my presence from tumblr and abandon a blog with 250+ followers (which mind you, didn't even have anything to do with mlp) was seeing this massive influx of posts by "warriors" who were hysterically warning everyone who would listen about how the My Little Pony fandom is "a dangerous place for girls and women", going on and on. Someone I had the misfortune to follow even reblogged a whole powerpoint someone made about how 'clop' porn and the underage incest porn in the Homestuck fandom are completely incomparable and our fandom is disgusting and wrong but there's absolutely nothing wrong with Homestucks ever. (and I'm a Homestuck too, so believe me when I say that is not a shot at that fandom in any way shape or form)

It's like, I was pretty sure that was all crazy tumblr hivemind stuff, but it feels really good to have it confirmed.

  • Have you ever felt ignored/left out due to your gender? Not really, no.Most people assume me to be male until they actually view my profile. And even when they due find out I'm female, they don't care either way and treat me just like they did before, hopefully nicely, as they should.

  • How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male? I don't really care to be honest. If anything it gives me the opportunity to shoot down their joke of 'everyone in the fandom is an old neckbearded pervert'.

Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth? I wouldn't say a lot of people do, but an extremely tiny minority might, something you can find in any 'nerd-centered' fandom.

Have you ever felt unsafe in this fandom, and how do you feel about the growing stigma that the fandom is an unsafe place for non-males? I have never felt unsafe in this fandom. I have heard of women in the fandom being assaulted purely for being female, but once again, there's bound to be rude/sick people in any group, not just the brony fandom and you shouldn't feel unsafe as a result.

Anything else you would like to discuss The whole 'you can't call yourself a brony if you're a girl' mentality some bronies have is still ridiculously frustrating. Who gives a damn if I'm female, I can call myself whatever the hell I want, just like everyone else has the right to go by whatever label they want (or no labels at all).

So, I can completely understand what you're saying by "Bronies are always assumed as men", probably because originally it was "Bro" and "Pony" put together, with "Bro" being universally an adjective for a guy.

Honestly, I think it would be a little easier for girls to be shown in the fandom more if they went by "Pegasister" instead of "Brony".

But that's my opinion, I know how a lot of girls prefer "Brony" for some reason or another.

But take what title you want, girls! ^^ (\

I was going to say this too.  Originally the term really did mean it's a guy.  But since so many young adult and older women also joined the fandom, the term has relaxed a bit at least in my opinion.  Pegasister is kind of cool too but most people don't use it.

I'm still fairly new to all of this but I have met some fantastic male bronies who have all assured me that women are welcome.

Now I had read some pretty nasty postings from women about how women were treated by bronies (not on this forum exactly- not sure where I was when I read the posts) but even though I was a little concerned at the time I am not anymore.

Babscon, the new convention in April in San Francisco has a segment called Sisterhooves Symposium - Brony Women Unite!  I thought that sounded like a lot of fun and I plan on being there.

I prefer to describe myself on forums as a pegasister, for the mane reason that I've been mistaken for male on forums for nearly all my internet life. :P Seriously, even tho on my first outings on forums I picked feminine sounding usernames, chose girly signature and avatars and STILL people assumed I was male! So now I don't bother. I just go by whatever name I like, use whatever image I like and people can assume what they want.

That sounds so amazingly cool! If only San Francisco wasn't so far away  :(

  • Have you ever felt ignored/left out due to your gender?

Not really, i havent exactly interacted with alot of bronies. I hear alot about the horrible things happening and wonder why, if i do get bashed or what not i simply ignore them.

How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male?

i dont exactly mind them, but im an openly proud pegasister no matter what people think

Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth?

im not sure, i havent heard of this myth like i mentioned before im not very active in the brony community.

Have you ever felt unsafe in this fandom, and how do you feel about the growing stigma that the fandom is an unsafe place for non-males?

i dont feel unsafe, in fact i dunno why people judge others in the fandom whether it be male or female i think the whole thing is really dumb myself.

"Have you ever felt ignored/left out due to your gender?"

Nope! Not at all :D

"How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male?"

I have never heard one.

"Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth?"

No :D

"Have you ever felt unsafe in this fandom, and how do you feel about the growing stigma that the fandom is an unsafe place for non-males?"

I am happy to report that I have never felt unsafe in the fandom! :D

I agree with SCS.

I'm a guy so I can't give you good answers to those questions, but I do want to say that I have personally never, ever discriminated against female bronies. That's just downright silly. I don't care what your gender is, if you like the show, you do, and that's great. If you don't, you don't, and that's fine too.

Heck yeah, it's downright silly! Anybrony that does clearly has nothing better to do with their life. If, in SCS's words, anyone does discriminate against female bronies, just ignore them and trot on by!

How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male?  Honestly?  I don't care.

Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth?  Not that I've noticed.

Have you ever felt unsafe in this fandom, and how do you feel about the growing stigma that the fandom is an unsafe place for non-males?  No...  How would it be unsafe?

Anything else you would like to discuss?  Nah.

1. Have you ever felt ignored/left out due to your gender?

Not really...I am not even sure many know I'm a female....unless I mention my husband...

2. How do you feel about people making jokes about bronies with the implication that bronies are strictly male?

kick' em in the nuts.....That's how I feel. I despise being called a "pegasister" because of my overall personality. That name to me is like acid on my tongue. I hate being lumped in with other females when I set myself apart from gender and cultural stereotypes that are most associated with being a woman.

3. Do you think a lot of people in this fandom believe in the "fake nerd girl" myth?

Not sure because I am not looking out for this. Of course, I am not a normal nerd....Although, would I be considered a geek or a nerd? I am not sure..... :derp:   For anyone who has challenged me on this, I just go all encyclopedia on them and that usually makes them mad enough to leave me alone.

Did I mention I hate being called a "Pegasister?"

I'm a male(at least, last time I checked), and I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything of the likes, but number 1. of OP's asked question fits the bill for just about every male member of this site in regards to the thread.

I don't understand why people's genders have to be pointed out at all. This is still a form of supremacy over another.

It would be so lovely if people could just note the iindividual's interests and personality, rather than biological attributions.

Reading this, and some of the flak that the males get about being a fan and female fans being ignored...it reminds me of when I was kid in the 80's-90's, when girls weren't allowed to like video games. History does repeat itself in a different form, it's sad.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

Not sure where you would be coming from but Southwest airlines is always running sales :-)

I'm on the other side of the country, and even with sales I still have far too much to do over here right now to drop everything and fly cross-country for a con, much as I would love to. I think you'll just have to share your experiences there upon your return :D

Yes, this. My brothers used to hate it whenever I beat them on computer games; my middle brother once pulled the plug out of the wall the time I beat him three times in a row on Street Fighter 2. :P He was a very sore loser normally, but when his sister beat him, he was twice as bad. XD
