What's a videogame you didn't think you would like, but ended up loving?

Sometimes, you can just take one look at a game and know that you're not going to enjoy it. But what about the games that you didn't think you would like, but ended up loving to death?

Recently, I experienced this with Terraria. I've never been a huge Minecraft fan, so when I downloaded Terraria on a whim, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. A good amount of my friends played it, so I figured "ehhh, I might as well give it a shot. At least to see why everybody seems to love it so much."

Like I predicted, I was bored out of my mind in the first 20 minutes. Nothing exciting was happening, and I was just about to give up when...it clicked. All of a sudden, I just felt compelled to explore. One thing led to another, and pretty soon, I was crafting gold armor and swords, and adventuring to depths that I never imagined I'd reach. The game hooked me, and I spent an insane amount of time scouring every nook and cranny of my randomly-generated universe. I'm still playing in that same world, and I've barely even scratched the surface of all the game-play possibilities.

What about you? What are some games that you played recently that you didn't think you would like, but ended up loving?

Bioshock, I thought it would be another overhyped shooter, then I played it and it became one of my favorite games of the generation

I never expected to like inFamous. I only got it because it was one of the free games offered when PSN went down for a month a few years ago. Now it's one of my absolute favorite series' ever.

Kerbal Space Simulator. I don't know much about space, math or physics, but saw a video of a mission in KSP in progress so I got the demo, then later I bought the full game.

Fast forward two years, I'm running a Minmus colonization effort with a planned crew of 12 - 16 Kerbals and am building a space station so that they can have somewhere to live during the mission.

Viva pinata a game that looked boring because you garden and tame pinata.

Are you kidding....

Viva Piñata is the best thing ever!

You cannot even glance at this before playing it and think it is going to suck, it's just a magnificent game.

Made by one of the best game companies ever might I add.

The show sucks though.

Anyways, a game I thought would suck then ended up liking would be... I can't really think of one, the only games I ever thought that would really blow are the newer battlefields and the newer resident evils, and I played them and they still blew very hard.

Suikoden. At first, I thought it would be just another generic RPG. Boy, was I ever wrong

I always thought Katamari Forever was the dumbest and weirdest looking game I every laid eyes on a few years back. One day a few months ago I was curious and looked up some stuff for it since it was on sale and purchased it.

Now I love the game's weirdness.

Animal Crossing. I doubted in that game so much and now I have a town to take care of. I guess that's not the only game. But I can't think of any others. If do think of some and someone posts under me and I forget where I put this post and that I made this post then i'll make a new post and either put down the new game, or put down animal crossing again. By the way, it's animal crossing new leaf if anybody wants to know.

I don't care what pony you like because I like everypony!

Spelunky. I originally thought it looked really uninteresting, and stupidly difficult with the random generation and perma-death. But after playing and loving the Binding of Isaac, I gave it another shot and loved it almost as much as Isaac.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

Arma 2. I thought it would be one of those super duper, so complex you cannot even walk forward without 7 keys kinda games. And next thing you know, I am playing it almost every chance I get. Great game, amazing realism, only game were I've seen tracers in active use, that combined with the real weapon sounds just makes for one of the most immerseive combat experiences I've had outside of RECONDO.

Dead Island. As broken and buggy as the game was I LOVED IT. Some of the most game breaking bugs made it hilarious and very enjoyable! One moment me and a friend are launching our truck across the map and the next we are jumping around outside the map! The shenanigans to be had in that game made it very fun for me.

i actually enjoyed playing toy story 3 and disney infinity just because of the creativity and it being 2 player so i could mess around making cool things with them and abusing the game being a kids game

Exactly! Even though it didn't live up to the monstrous hype surrounding its release, the game was still pretty damn fun. I know it had issues, but the sky was the limit when it came to enertainment value.

The only game I can think of like that was Oblivion. I was never a big RPG fan so running around fighting knights and wizards didn't seem fun at all. One day I had some money burning a hole in my wallet and for some reason I decided to pick it up. Thank Luna I did. That game opened my eyes to western RPGs and without it I may have never tried the Fallout series or that gloriously buggy pile of fun that is Skyrim. Still don't care for JRPGs though. Fire Emblem Awakening is alright but that's about it.
