Profile Customizations (suggestion)

This is a quick suggestion, bringing up something that may be unimportant, but it could let members be more creative with their profiles, if they are getting tired of the old default theme.

Like for example, if we were to have an option to customize our profiles (excluding backgrounds and text), we could let the members have a variety of colors to make their borders, links, modules, and so on. I think by doing this, other than letting the member make their profile look fun, professional, what has you; it can tell the visitor more about their colorful personality and creativeness. 

Like if you are a nature lover, you can color your border green, or a deep brown.

If you like Rarity or Fluttershy, you can make your profile white and purple, or yellow and pink. I think it would make it a ton more enjoyable.

This may be tossing honey into the bee pit as well, but maybe if it is considered, how about the option to make them transparent? If you wish to exclude this, that will be fine. It's just a little extra suggestion, no need to pay attention to it at all.

I think this is a great idea. It would definitely be cool to be able to customize your profile further.

I look at my profile about 3 or 4 times a day on average, and it already feels like I'm getting slapped in the face with glitter, glamour, and all that fabulous stuff

 

Of course, I don't know what most of this means, but it sounds hella technical While I'm always up for a way to make my profile more and more like Rarity, I predict an answer of "the tech admins will have to write a shitton of code" or something along those lines

I'd like it if this came to fruition, though, even if I do find it more than a bit unlikely

Hehe, yeah it does sound unlikely it will pull through because of the work they have to do to make it happen. Crossing my fingers though, the other members seem to think it's an awesome idea. >w<

This does sound like a pretty cool idea! I just don't know how difficult it would be to apply.

 

Perhaps the tech admins can tell us about its feasibility.

Regardless of this suggestion's technical feasibility, it is not a feature I would be interested in seeing on MLP Forums. Your profile here is a representation of you as an MLP Forums user, not a personal website. Putting the brakes on its appearance helps profiles not only have a consistent look from member to member, but prevents the inevitable onslaught of the "coolness" that is red-on-black or similarly eye-gouging colour combinations (yes, it will happen - and no, I don't expect the moderation team to want to deal with it). It certainly won't help profiles look more professional.

I meant if the individual so chooses when it comes to looking professional. Like Mods or Admins. Mainly, this is to express personality and so far the members seem to love the idea. If somebody likes red and black, I don't see the problem with it. Eye gouging, possibly, but you can't get mad at a member for expressing themselves, and free willingly making their profile the way they seem fit. The moderators don't have to be nit picky about what colors people put on their profiles. I'm sure a TON of people got over the whole "red and black" ordeal. I can see people using solid colors though. May happen, perhaps, but we can't control that outcome. 

 

Indeed, it's a representation of being an MLP member and not a personal website, but this website is specifically for fans of MLP Forums, and a little color wouldn't change that one bit. That's why I gave the example above, knowing well that very little people would decor their profiles in something other than ponies anyway. Like Rarity fans or Pinkie Pie fans. Pinkie Pie fans would possibly make a majority of their stuff pink, Rarity, purple and white. I mean, you can always have catches to new changes around the forums...like rules. Like "No making it red and black, or any kind of obnoxious colors", although I see no problem with it.

 

It's your site, and I understand fully if you don't want to take this into consideration. I just thought it would bump up the opportunity to express and take a step forward...or at least give it a chance before throwing completely overboard. Thanks you for your feedback, Feld0!

Sounds like a great idea! But it sounds like a ton of work, and possibly impossible at the most. Sounds like an awesome idea though!
