"For want of just a little sweet lemon leaf, I've walked all the way out of town." murmured a tall brown stallion, shuffling through knee-height grass. His hoofsteps traced a winding, twisting trail around and over knolls and rolling hills of a wide open field, nearby Ponyville. In his dedicated search, he had wandered more than half way across town, under a willow tree, and only when he neared the bordering wood thicket of the field, did he stop and look back. The better part of an afternoon, wasted, simply sniffing the ground and hoping to find a little herb. He looked back across the sea of green, every so often a wave of gentle breeze blowing past, washing a gentle shimmer across the plain, interrupted only by the sprinkling of wild flowers hither and thither.

"Golly!" he remarked with a smile, "Blaze you silly pony! guess I lost track of time." The squirrel-y trail of depressed greenery betrayed a time-consuming path to where he stood. "I'm not gonna get that lemon sarsaparilla done today at all!"

In his preoccupation he hadn't noticed other ponies had come out to the field over the course of that afternoon.

Along the edge of a pond just out of Blaze's earshot, an ivory unicorn paced the edge of the water, bobbing to a beat. The water rippled as he controlled its surface through magic, resonating to his imagined sounds. In his unstoppable rhythm, Scribblegroove hadn't care or heed for anything apart from the music that surrounded him. Curious of what looked to be a pony dancing to nothing, Blaze began to stroll closer. The body of water lined by lilies, pads and reeds did nothing to distract from the unicorn's movements; they only brought it out as every once and a while the water shrubs bobbed and shimmered with the music themselves.

From the other, more northerly corner of the field, another pony ventured out over the field, having heard it to be the idyllic place to enjoy a quiet and peaceful afternoon, if one found themselves in Ponyville. She was a greenish crystal pony named Kay, and she stood admiring the sweet stillness, of yet another place she had traveled to.

A peaceful place. Peaceful, yet enervating and refreshing. Serene but also hectic in all it's detail. Seeing everything, yet perceiving only one feeling. One inspiration. A borderline meditative technique that Scribblegroove applied whenever he was composing music. He had heard great stories of this magical place, and it had been recommended to him as a consciousness expanding experience...

The skipping meadows... More like the Sauntering meadows... He thought as he absentmindedly looked around, improvising on what he felt. Yes... A little by of a daunting rhythm, dragging itself forward. Serene, yet enervating, just like his environment. As always, bodily movement was something he didn't have control over. After all, he was producing music with his body, and when music flows through your nerves and melts your veins, it is hard not to move yourself to the groove.

The skipping meadows... The Saunting meadows... He thought again. Then he looked up. In the sky among the clouds he saw a small flock of birds flying by.

Drifting by...

The rhythm stumbled, it hampered and stuttered. Suddendly, it was silent... And then:

A new melody was born, fertilizer by fresh inspiration and creativity. He was in the perfect state of mind to compose. It was wonderful. This place is wonderful He reminded himself. He improvised along the new chord scheme he had constructed, experimenting with the 'shape of sound' that the brass section had. He always tried to make the instruments sound as realistic as possible. That is the easiest anyway. But letting yourself loose a little and making new sounds never hurt anypony.

Scribblegroove felt like the king of the world, and the field was the audience to the great performance that was his brilliant, well-versed mind. In his moment of purest arrogance, he didn't notice the ponies that were approaching him, and didn't bother to stop dancing like a morn either. This was all his moment, or so he thought...

Blaze continued to watch the dancing unicorn, and his ears perked at the sudden notice of a happy harping series of sounds, coming out of thin air.

"Hey!" he piped up. "Do you know where this music's coming from? This is pretty neat!"

The brown stallion started to move somewhat like the unicorn, and continued to saunter down to the water, before nipping a plant out of the sandy edge. Ooh, watercress. He thought.

Traveller's head poked out of the forest after coming to investigate the sound. The music seemed faint when he heard it, but he knew it was real. He wasnt going crazy. Probably.

Looking out to see the two stallions, he noticed one was a unicorn...with what seemed to be a music note as a cutie mark. So he must have made the music, though he had never met a unicorn who could make music out of thin air. Traveller grabbed his book that hung out of his saddlebags and began to write what had happened so far.

He finished up his log and slowly made his way down to where they were. It would be amazing to see if the unicorn could, in fact, make music with no instruments.

Kay Dreamer took a deep breath of the sweet field air, and sighed in contentment. It hadn't changed at all; this place was as beautiful as she remembered it, completely untouched by the passage of time. The town was new of course, but the field... Kay remembered walking through this very field on her first trip outside the Crystal Empire as a minstrel. It could have been yesterday, for all this place had remained the same as it was 1000 years ago. She let emotion envelope her as she moved slowly across the hills, her little cart of instruments trailing behind her. The rolling fields and flowered trees swayed gently in the breeze, the air smelled of honey and damp grass, and the sound of brass and percussion drifted across the...

...wait.

Kay frowned in confusion and flicked her ears. She could swear she heard music, and it was... different. Of course, nearly everything was different in this strange new future-Equestria, but different music was something which immediately commended her complete attention. She couldn't even bring herself to feel annoyed that it had broken her out of her nostalgia. She struggled to find a word for the sound. It was upbeat, energetic, boppy. Yes, boppy was a good word. It had her almost dancing as she moved across the grass toward the source of the sound. As she rounded a hill, she saw a lone unicorn dancing by the edge of a pond, where the music was loudest. She looked around in confusion for a band, but there was none to be seen. Just one silly, dancing unicorn... He couldn't possibly - could he? He was! The music was coming from him! Kay unhitched her wagon and raced the rest of the distance toward the unicorn, screeching to a halt right in front of him.

"How are you doing that?!?"

Anala allowed herself to take in the lush, green surroundings. It was a contrast to her usual brash personality, but it was relaxing. She had come to get a break from the bustling city life of Manehattan, and had gotten her wish.

What was that? There was a group of ponies a few metres away. An ivory unicorn was doing a little dance. She could also hear some sort of music... but from where?

She was curious about what was going on, so she slowly began trotting towards them.

Scribblegroove opened his eyes to the sound of a pony speaking to him. He turned to see a brown stallion nip a flower from the ground. He immediately stopped dancing, and the music fell away as he gave him and embarrassed look, his ears pointing down. "Oh... Hi, I didn't see you there. I was-" he started to speak, but he was interrupted in a rather violent way.

In the distance he could hear something running at them. As he turned to look he stared straight in the face of a green crystal unicorn. As if her appearance wasn't surprising enough, the way she came out of nowhere and started speaking to him gave him a small heart attack. He lost his already unstable balance because of this, and fell down... Straight into the pond.

A loud, slightly un-stallion like shriek ruptured the serene silence of the environment as he dropped. Then a his body met the water, and a splash of water hit the ponies standing by. The pond wasn't very deep, about a knee's height. He did go all the way underwater though. He pulled his head up quickly and gasped, not of asphyxiation, but because of the sudden cold of the water.

He shook his head to get some of the water out of his mane, but it was hopeless. It was full of leaves and small plants. He looked at the mare with a blank expression on his face. "Uh..." Was all he could say. He blushed as he realized how stupid this situation was.

As he stood up from the water he groaned. His tail had constricted itself with three waterlillies. "Oh... Great." He muttered to himself. It would take ages to get all this out of his fur and mane.

There was a slight pause - a few brief seconds of complete silence - before Kay Dreamer dissolved into a helpless fit of laughter. Her mirth at the poor stallion's predicament won over her slight guilt at having caused it, though she did feel the tiniest bit contrite. Still giggling, she sheepishly levitated a few stray bits of water foliage from where they were stuck to the top of his nose.

"Ohmigosh, I'm so sorry." Giggle. "Let me just - wow, you're covered in plants." Badly concealed snort. "Sorry, sorry, I just - I can't help, it, it's so -" Shaking with laughter, she extended a hoof toward him, trying but still failing to regain her composure.

"I'm Kay Dreamer. Nice to, um... Nice to meet you?"

Scribblegroove frowned at the snickering mare. He only felt more embarassed now, with her laughing at him like that. He flicked his hair out of his face and grabbed her hoof. As he stepped out of the water he mocked at her. "Not likewise, I am afraid..." He said softly between his teeth, with a cold look on his face. As soon as he stood on safe grounds he tried to shake the water out of his mane and fur again, hopefully removing some of the plants as well. He splashed a lot of water and a few leaves onto the green mare in the process, but he didn't care really.

When he was mostly dry, he still had a few leaves and lillies in his mane and tail. He sighed. He looked at Kay again. He calmed down a little. It had been an accident, nothing to get worked up about. He let himself drop down on the grass and smiled lightly again. How could he stay mad when he was in a place like this. He got to work and tried to remove the pieces of foilage from his mane carefully, trying not to pull too many hairs out.

"My name is Scribblegroove." He said without looking up from his careful operation. He pulled one of the little lillies out of his tail and threw it back into the pond. "And what I presume..." He looked at the crystal mare, and gave her half a smile. "Is that you have an excellent taste for music, and a rather nasty knack to sneak up on ponies..." He said sarcastically. He looked at the brown stallion that was standing by the pool as well. "But I suppose this is what you get when you dance like an idiot in the middle of a park. Should've known better..." He muttered as he pulled the last bit of green from his hair. He shrugged, slowly warming up in the sunlight. He cleared his throat and inhaled deeply whilst closing his eyes for a few seconds. He then dropped down from a seated position into lying flat on his back in the tickling grass and exhaled. As he exhaled, the music gradually returned.

He sighed as the melody floated through the atmosphere, regranting him the dreamy atmosphere that he had been enjoying a few minutes ago. He left the ponies to whatever they wanted to do, though he secretly hoped for more attention. After all, he loved standing in the spotlights...

"'Name's Blaze." said the brown stallion, smiling and turning partly away from the pond. "And I'm looking through this field for some sweet lemon leaf!" he said loudly, as if to suggest to anypony interested to help look. "It's a hard little weed to spot," he bent down brushing his muzzle into the grass again, before bumping into something small and metal. "Huh?" Blaze picked up the odd object and examined it. "...A magnifying glass?" He looked through the aperture at the pond, towards Kay and Scribblegroove. As he made eye-contract with them through the glass, he continued. "What's this doing h--"

*PAFAOW!* with a bright flash and burst of energy, arcs shot through the air right from the glass to each of their eyes. Each pony seemed to explode with sparkles, as their shape suddenly vanished inwards. The sparkles faded, and in that sudden moment, they all saw each other.

Their tiny selves, hovering there at eye-level, stared at each other disbelief of such a change. Then, as promptly as they had each popped down to the size of a marble, they all looked down and saw the perilous fall below them. With comic tension, they all looked up at each other again, before plummeting.

"AAAAAAAAHHH!" Blaze fell from a dizzying height, probably taller than any tower in Canterlot, in a world whose scale was so alien he didn't even comprehend he was still in the meadow. All was just a blur as he fell faster and faster, tumbling, spinning and losing his orientation, until he was caught by the flat edge of a blade of grass that bent under his motion. He slid down rapidly as it turned downwards into a little slide that he rode, until he rolled onto the dirt ground with a rough collapse and face-full of dirt-clumps nearly the size of his hooves.

Traveller was making his way down to the pond when a blinding light hit him. Dazed, he attempted to make sense of it all. The sun? Had he looked directly into the sun? What about the unicorns magic? What if...

---------------------------------

His thoughts were interrupted as everything shrank around him. He could just barely make out objects, still a bit blinded by the light. He tried desperately to remain where he was but he couldnt recover from the fall. He came crashing down onto the ground, barely the size of an ant. Looking around, it seems the others had fallen too. Hopefully they had a better time landing then he did. The grey stallion went to grab his saddlebag, but it wasnt there.

'It probably got lost when everything shrunk...' he thought aloud to himself as he began to walk towards where he had seen other ponies fall. They had something to do with this.

Kay Dreamer's smile faded away as she realised the drenched stallion didn't find his situation funny at all. She dropped her hoof to the ground the moment he let go, her eyed fixed shamefully on the blades of grass below her. She looked up again, ready to apologise as the first ill-flung weed caught her right in the face. Annoyed now, she opened her mouth to give him a few choice words, but as another drenched weed sailed past her she decided against it. Better to let him have his little tantrum, she thought. Instead, she glowered at him with a slightly hurt expression until he caught her eye again.

As he began speaking to her, her expression softened back into a still-cautious-but-slightly-curious one, especially as he flopped back on the grass and started producing music from absolutely nowhere again. Torn between leaving him be or attempting to make amends somehow, she looked up at the other stallion standing by the pond, looking for herbs. Blaze, he'd said his name was. She met his eye through a magnifying glass he was holding, and...

*FLASH*

Kay Dreamer felt tingly all over, then her vision cleared to see both stallions and herself floating mid-air. Before she could properly grasp what had happened, she started to plummet toward the ground.

"Aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeaaaghhhh -" *squelch*.

Kay slowly opened her eyes and picked herself up gingerly. "Ooohh, what just happe- Euuuuuuuugh!" She'd landed in a puddle of squishy, sticky mud which she just knew must have came from Scribblegroove. The big, wet pond-weed was lying right next to it was proof enough. "Well, the universe wasted no time at all getting back at me for that one," she pouted, trying in vain to brush some of the mud off and only succeeding in spreading it further. "Oh, yuck, yuck, yuck. Mud. It had to be mud! I couldn't have landed in a flower? And what... what in the name of the Crystal Heart just happened?" Looking around herself, she gasped when she saw Blaze laying in a jumped heap at the base of a grass blade. Her dismay at the mud momentarily forgotten, she squelched over quickly to help.

Since Scribblegroove had closed his eyes and started making music, he hadn't been paying attention to what was happening at all. When a sudden flash lit the area do brightly it could even be seen from behind his eyelids, he opened them...

He was falling. Again. And for reasons unexplainable, it looked like a considerable distance. Most ponies' reactions would be screaming, and Scribblegroove would've... If it weren't for the ridiculousness of the situation. All he said, before plummeting down to the ground was: "Oh..."

About halfway to the ground Scribblegroove realized he was about to fall to his death. A little delayed, he started to scream just like his companions. And surely Scribblegroove would've fallen to his death if it weren't for a conveniently placed dandelion right beneath him. His scream was suddendly muffled by a mouthful of soft pollen. He landed on the flower in an explosion of yellow dust. He bounced up, fell back down slightly to the side of the flower, throwing up another fountain of pollen, and then rolled off the side and fell to the ground with a painful 'thump'.

He slowly got to his hooves and coughed, trying to get the pollen out of his mouth. He wiped the yellow stuff from his eyes with his right front hoof and opened them. He looked around and saw a rainforest of grass, with a giant dandelion right behind him. He turned around to see Blue and Kay close by. He wanted to yell at them. He wanted to ask them what the hay had happened.

All that came out of him was a sneeze with the power of a tornado. Pollen flew off of his mane everywhere as he almost fell down to the ground again. Looking confused, he was about to start talking again when he was interrupted by yet another sneeze. He looked behind himself to see that his coat, mane and tail had been completely covered in pollen, turning him yellow all over. "Oh no..." He muttered to himself before running towards the others quickly.

When he arrived there he noticed that Kay was covered in mud. At least he wasn't the only one looking ridiculous now. "If you dare laugh..." He sneered through his teeth, frowning at the mare. "What the hay happened?" He then asked to the both of them.

Kay Dreamer took one look at Scribblegroove and masked her immediate amusement with a quick cough, slicking her nose in the air and trying her utmost not to smile. The grumpy-magic-music-pony looked utterly ridiculous with fuzzy yellow pollen coating him in a second fur; like an angry honeybee that'd lost it's stripes.

Oh, I am so writing a song about that, she thought to herself.

Although, she was rather jealous that he got to land in a flower, while she ended up face down in a mud puddle. That much was enough to keep what she hoped was a grumpy, definitely-not-smiling expression on her face as she responded to his question.

"Why do you think we'd know what happened? I was standing one moment, and the very next, poof! We're all the size of ladybugs." She turned to look at Blaze. "Come to think of it though, it seemed to happen just as you looked through that magnifying glass..."

Traveller moved through the...grass. It seemed odd to call it grass now that it was larger than he was. He smiled slightly at himself. Even when he had no idea what was going on, he still seemed to be able to distract himself. Sighing and looking around one more time, it seemed his bag was nowhere to be found. Then he got an idea.

Why didnt he just fly? It might not have saved him from falling, but he could fly at least. He took off into the air and hovered for a few moments before going forward. He hurried. While the other ponies had been relatively close together, he had been separated. If Traveller wanted any answers he would have to get them from the others. After flying over to where he thought they last were, he realized a flaw in his plan. All the ponies were very earth colored. He sighed again and came to a halt in midair.

That meant air searching was out of the question. It seemed he had only one option: to yell until somepony yelled back, or just to keep going. he took the latter. If he went to far, he could just as easily get lost as he could find somepony.

'Hey! Anypony here?'

Scribblegroove frowned at the mare for a few more seconds, seeing that she still had trouble with trying not to laugh, but at least she was trying now, so he had no excuse to stay grumpy anymore. "At least you were paying attention... There I was, peacefully rehearsing a few songs and then the two of you come in, throw me into a pond, shrink me to the size of an ant and drop me from a few thousand feet into a- a- a-" Scribblegroove couldn't finish bis little rant because the pollen had somehow gotten in his nose again. "A-CHOO..."

With a comical backslash he dropped through his hind legs and bounced to the ground. His face twisted into a twitching expression, waiting for another tornado-sneeze to come... But it didn't. He shook his head again, in vain, because the pollen stuck to his face regardless, and he stood up. He didn't find it funny at all, but he understood how the mare had trouble with disguising her amusement. He sighed. He was about to start talking and continueing his rant, when he was interrupted by a faint yell in the distance.

"Hey! Anypony here?"

The words came drifting along with the wind. He flicked his ears and waited for a repetition, but it didn't come... He looked through the forest of grass to see if there was another shrunken pony, but he saw nothing. Then he looked up, and he saw a tiny Pegasus stallion flying in the air.

"Look, over there!" He said to the others as he pointed his hoof towards the Pegasus. He closed his eyes halfway to see better at that distance and frowned. "We'll have to attract his attention..." He said. He inhaled deeply and yelled at the top of his lungs, his baritone voice resonating through the little big forest of grass.

"Hey! Down here!"

He looked back at Kay and Blaze. "That should be enough..." He said with a hint of pride for his loud voice. He looked back up to see if it really had been enough.

Anala watched as a green unicorn mare went rammig straight into the ivory unicorn stallion, knocking him into the pond.

Anala wanted to burst out into hysteric laughter, but she was able to turn it into a mere giggling fit.

The ponies introduced themselves. The stout earth pony stallion was Blaze, the green mare was Kay Dreamer, the unicorn stallion was Scribblegroove, and the red-and-blue-maned cream-coloured unicorn stallion was Number Cruncher.

"I'm Anala. Nice to meet all of you!" she greeted them. "Uh, I hope I wasn't being rude when I just popped up there," she added.

She watched as Blaze trotted towards something that had caught his attention, and he reached out to touch it.

This was really piquing her interest now. She slowly walked towards the group and the magnifying glass. But what could be so fascinating about a plain magnifying glass? "What are you expecting, some super-crazy magic laser? Pfft. Yeah, ri-"

*PAFAOW!*

Anala had received a blinding flash of light. She opened her eyes, and it didn't take long for her to realise that her hooves were not being supported.

She looked down to see the ground beneath her.

"AI-EEEEE!!!" she screamed as she plummeted down to the ground, flailing her limbs.

She landed at last. Her confusion didn't stop there; she was surrounded by giant green stalks, which looked like blades of grass - but waaay taller.

She tried to navigate her way through this new world, and soon came across the group of ponies once more.

"Man, what just happened?!"

Kay Dreamer looked toward where Scribblegroove was pointing, eyes widening in surprise as she spied the miniature Pegasus stallion flying a little ways away from their group. She was about to shout out, but Scribblegroove beat her to it...

WOW, that guy has a loud voice, she thought, somewhat taken aback. Sure he'd been grumpy, but he seemed fairly quiet. She didn't think she'd ever met a pony capable of yelling louder that she could, though he may have just come close. She didn't relish the thought of holding a competition to find out.

She was about to create a few little magic flashes with her horn just in case the Pegasus hadn't heard the booming summons still ringing in her ears, when she noticed a grey and white mare appear from behind a few grass blades.

"Oh no, another one?" Kay said in dismay, waving the mare over to the rest of the group. "How many of us exactly have ended up shrunk!?"

Blaze looked wide-eyed in disbelief at the radical thing before him: four ponies he didn't know, all the same size as he, standing in a giant jungle shaped like a small lily pond, and an enormous mountain scape of littler houses on the edge of Ponyville, an apparently vast distance away.

His mouth kept opening and closing, trying to muster words that expressed his surprise, as he slowly edged backwards, until his flank bumped into the metal rim of a giant magnifying glass lying on its side. Blaze whipped around, staring daggers at the enigmatic eyepiece.

"How many of us exactly have ended up shrunk!?"

"I hope not more." murmured Blaze. He faced forwards, already expecting some guilty stares in his direction. "I... It was my fault. I d-didn't know some random p-p-piece of junk in the grass would make this happen."

Anala could only stand there and gape at the sight of a group of ponies who had gone through the same transformation as her. She then made a rough estimate that they were each under even an inch tall. How and why was this happening?!

And didn't it happen when Blaze touched the magnifying glass?

Her instinctive reaction was to get mad at him. "BLAZE!" she yelled, storming up to the stallion.

"What! Did! You! DO?!" she shrieked, prodding him in the chest with each word.

Traveller suppressed laughter. He knew how it felt to slam into a wall (or dandelion in this case) so he felt bad for the stallion even if he smiled slightly. Returning back to his neutral expression, he spoke to the group.
