If MLP was traditional animation would you still watch it.

I know what you are going to say "If it's not broken don't fix it" or "I like the way it is" or "The animation is what attracted me to the show" but lets forget that for a while and get strait to the topic.

If mlp was traditional animation instead of flash animation but had the same characters, personality, world, plots, colour and everything else would you still watch it.

IMO I would still enjoy it or maybe even enjoy it even more.

but that is my opinion, I am not saying they should swop to traditional animation, I just think it would be better to me but probably not to you.

tell me if you would or not I will not judge your opinion.

I don't think so. I might have gotten into it initially, but the Brony fandom itself is quite a large constituent of my enjoyment of the show. (The rest is Pinkie Pie) :)

I say that because we must remember that the Brony fandom came from 4chan, and that's an image-based website. It took off from where it is because everyone loved to make image macros out of it. That would've been a lot harder to do with the traditional animation, right? The facial expressions would've been less outright and adaptable to reaction images and the like. If the fandom grew from traditional animation, there'd be a lot less of that foundation stone and thus we'd be less of an expansive community, and my interest in the show itself would wane in conjunction with that.

Oh, and I wouldn't be able to enjoy that G3 scene from Too Many Pinkie Pies either :P

thanks for explaining so brilliantly, but I am just not a fan of flash animation, but yes the brony community would be a lot smaller.

I adore traditional animation. I'd enjoy the art of the show even more if it were hand drawn! The biggest problems would be how the fandom would react to the wait time between seasons and how DHX/Hasbro would handle the animation budget. Traditional animation is not only way more expensive, it takes a LOT longer. (The visual payoff at the end is totally worth it, IMO, but there's a reason more and more children's shows are moving to flash and low-budget CGI.)

Other than what Flipturn mentioned, the flash animation style of this show lets it do some pretty cool things. Those background ponies with all their distinct personalities are possible thanks to the reused animation assets. No need to change it when the show's visual style is already polished and impressive.

I am not saying they should change it, I am just saying would people still like it if it were traditional to begin with.

Eeyup! Just what I was thinking, no flash means no BonBon, no Lyra, no Derpy... This list goes on and on. The fandom would not be the same. Or probably as big. It'd still be a great show but with a much smaller fandom I may not have found it as I may not have heard about it.

I'm a huge fan of traditional animation and it breaks my heart that it's become such a thing of the past. I want to see it make a come back, just because computer animation is the "norm" these days shouldn't mean there's no place for it. There's something special about it that, in my opinion, no other form of animation can mimic exactly. I think it comes down to hand-drawn having such a personal feel about it, there's a lot of heart and emotion in it. But as you said it's also way more time consuming, albeit well worth the wait for quality. It'd be interesting to see FiM in traditional but I also love it just the way it is -- and honestly at this point it's hard to imagine it any other way. The fandom would be different I'm sure! So in short, yes I'd still watch it and enjoy it just as much (and I'd be thankful for some hand-drawn animation) but I think the show has it's own unique flare just the way it is and flash just works for it.

That was an amazing read @dragonflyer so well thought out and very well done, I agree with you, traditional animation has something that other animation types don't have but my little pony's animation is what gives it it's appeal.

thank you for that.

I honestly don't know.

I don't know if the show would have had as much success with traditional animation, and if I would have liked it when I'd have started to watch it.
