Twilight Won't Outlive her Friends...What does that mean exactly?

I know this isn't new news to anyone but me (just for the record I refuse to say "anypony" or anything else that replaces "one" or "body" with "pony" it's just kinda stupid) as yesterday, but this got me thinking, does that mean that Twilight ISN'T immortal like Celestia and Luna, or that she AND her friends are immortal or will be immortal? I couldn't find any confirmation say which one this meant, so I ask this because I tend to think that either way, this has kind of a sad outcome in the long run. I tend to think of how situations in the show affect Spike because, well someone has to so why not someone who has Spike as his favorite character? That's me by the way.

If Twilight and her friends aren't immortal, that means that Spike will not only outlive his friends in Ponyville, but also Twilight and the love of his life, Rarity, and that makes me kinda sad. If this is the case, I can really only see now that a hundred years into Equestrian history that Spike will be sad and alone and stories floating around about a dragon guarding the resting place of Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends. But I'm not so heartless as to only think of Spike, I also think of how Discord will cope with having to bury Fluttershy, but given the fan service of him giving Celestia flowers in Twilight's Kingdom, I think he'll find a way to cope.

However, if it turns out to be that this means that all of the Mane 6 are/will be immortal because of their connection to the Rainbow Super Pony Saiyan Box Powers, or they all become alicorns (which would be really stupid by the way), or Twilight casts some kind of immortality spell on the rest of them, then that means that they'll all outlive their other loved ones, such as Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell, Scootaloo, Big Macintosh, Shining Armor, Maud, the rest of the Apple family, the rest of the Pie family, etc. No qualms about Fluttershy losing Angel, though.

So which is it? Will Spike outlive all his friends, or will the Mane 6 outlive all their loved ones? Just some food for thought.

That's your typical "Can of Worms" scenario right there.  How bad would it be for Applejack to outlive Apple Bloom and Big Macintosh? The same for Rarity and Sweetie Belle or Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo?

In essense, I foresee 1 scenario.  Avoid all discussions mentions about it and the show ends without it being discussed.

I don't trust McCarthy pure and simple.  Nor do I trust stuff from The HUB twitter feed.  I remember during S3 when Tara Strong did the feed and multiple people asked if Twilight would become a Princess/Alicorn.  The response was "No" at the time.  In the end, it turned out to be false and Twilight did become a Princess/alicorn.

The statement about "Twilight won't outlive her friends" has people at odds.  Some say it needs to be taken at face value. Others aren't so trusting of that.  In my honest opinion, as said above, I don't trust McCarthy or her words.  She makes jovial statements and yet what seems to be a farce becomes true.  Example was Discord being an alicorn in S4, mentioning it on April Fools day.  While he didn't "become" one permanently, he did transform into a Draconequus (sp?)/Alicorn hybrid thing to joke at the situation.

To be honest, I'm taking McCarthy's statement as "Twilight won't outlive her friends 'because' she will always remember them.  With the words of her friends the Journal of Friendship and their memories in her heart, they will never be forgotten no matter how long she lives."

Another thing that has me wondering, since Twilight is now the poster pony of MLPFIM, concerns the fact that each Transformer series has an Optimus Prime.  I'm quite curious if they'll keep Twilight around to serve as a linked connection for the FIM series ends, and they - Hasbro - make another series within the same universe that Faust has established.

The last thing I will add is one notion.  It's not every day that a pony comes around who's destiny is to raise and lower the sun or moon.  The same can be said of one who's affinity is magic and friendship, with another same being said for a pony that represents love and compassion.  To let Twilight and Cadence pass on may not be to Celestia's liking.  I'm very curious if our lovable giantess equine is a mastermind that's pulling some serious strings to send both Cadence and Twilight into trials by fire of sorts to see how they fair.  If they prove worthy, she'll impart a "gift" onto them of immortality so they can stay in Equestria to preserve and protect it from outside forces.

We don't really know how long ponies live. Starswirl the bearded seemed to have lived for a very long time.

I don't think we're concerned with the age of ponies, but the age of alicorns themselves.  We've had Celestia and Luna, so it's unknown the age span of Cadence and Twilight.  If all alicorns become immortal, then that's that.  If Celestia and Luna are different breeds compared to Cadence and Twilight (Both who have ascended from regular ponies not knowing about Sunbutt and Moonbutt), we have a conundrum on our hands.

Anyways, those are my two bits/cents on the whole matter.

Yeah, it's like Banul said, we don't know enough about how long Equestrian Ponies live to really draw any conclusions on who will outlive who.

Another thing is that the show never explicitly said Alicorns were immortal, we fans just came to the conclusion because Celestia has been around for 1000 years, and living that long doesn't automatically make her immortal, it just means she's lived longer than Yoda.

As for Luna, she spent that same 1000 years trapped into being a force of darkness on the moon, and we don't even know if there's any food or water on the moon and if not, she didn't seem to need any of it to survive as Nightmare Moon for a millennia.

Also, since Ponies in Equestria have access to magic, or even magical items, far was we know, there could be plenty of spells that help with needed medical procedures or even enhance longevity.

So with the lack any solid info on how long ponies live, i find myself less and less worried about how Twilight won't outlive her friends the more I think about it, maybe Twilight and her friends will actually all become immortal, maybe Twilight will eventually pass away before any of her friends do. Either way, I'm not really worried.

Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria?

they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.

Yeah, overthinking much? I doubt a TV-Y rated show like MLP will ever touch upon such an issue. I'm all in for an unhealthy amount of discussion about colorful ponies but this is kinda pushing it.

Yeah, the only thing we accomplish is creating show conflicts that either don't exist, or won't be touched upon, second, unnecessary flamewars. It's like the protests in Venezuela, a fight for a bag of trash, where you always lose

Well, Luna and Celestia don't seem to have close friends, maybe they outlived them.

The same thing might happen to Twilight too.

But yeah, I think you're overthinking.

Here's one question I thought about for a little bit.  I remember in Twilight's flashback during A Canterlot Wedding that Princess Cadence was similar to Twilight's form.  Will Twilight change forms into something that is similar to Princess Cadence, completing her regal look?

She's already gained a good height advantage on them, with Rainbow Dash even poking fun at it during Testing Test 1 2 3.

I wonder that too, also am I the only one that thought Princess Cadance looked odd as a young princess. I mean she looked like Rainbow Dash with a horn.

I think that ponies tend to have fairly long lifespans stretching as far as 170. But I think the Mane 6 are immortal if they chose. If they chose to be mortal their element will be passed onto a new pony. Besides Equestria without the mane 6 it's a miracle they survived 1000 years without them with all that goes on in the modern era. I mean are we supposed to believe that nothing that chaotic like what goes on now didn't happen in the 1000 year period? Without the elements or Rainbow Power now I'd give them 2-28 minutes tops.

Immortality is a choice and is done by spells. Twilight Sparkle can learn a spell to halt her aging or keep her self in whatever age range she wants. There are high level time spells to make someone young or old.

2 basic scenarios

1.  Twilight isn't immortal, and will live to around the same life expectancy of her friends

2.  Twilight is immortal but the rest of the mane cast also becomes immortal later on (let's turn the mane cast into alicorns and watch the crisis in the fandom ensue, as an example).

3.  The all die in a horrific accident all at the same time, thus creating the biggest drama ever.

Will the series ever get to that point?  Most likely not. I can't see this series ever jumping that far forward in time, since it doesn't seem like it's been hinted at previously.   So we'll probably never see either scenario in the show - it makes for fun entertainment ideas in fan produced works and such though.

After the end of season 4, I think one major thing has been pushed and that is Friendship and the power is has is not something that is controlled by one, but one found within a group.

With Twilight and her friends now possibly ruling over ponyville and having some type of counsel of friendship/harmony I think the idea of them sharing immortality would and should be the end result somewhere down the line. Twilight without her friends is nothing, and as we saw until she figured out it was friendship (and her friends) that made it meaningful, it was rather pointless both being a princess and an alicorn, so if Twilight has obtained immortality either by becoming an alicorn or having the ability to cast a spell to stop ageing, then I don't see why she would not share it with her friends, since without them, her own power become pointless.

Equally so, all of the girls have been able to wield very powerful magical objects, it would not surprise me if simply by being the barriers of harmony, they have already achieved immortally and simply have not noticed due to only a year or so of time passing.

I don't think anypony is immortal in MLP;FIM. If Celestia and Luna are immortal, then fine. But it seems stupid if they are. -_-

Meghan McCarthy was just making shit up for Twitter that when she hasn't even thought about what will be in the show or what is implied canon. Obviously, she would unless she's murdered or her friends live forever, Meghan McCarthy wasn't thinking.

And no, this is not similar to the Equestria Girls canon thing that I was talking about in another thread. Equestria Girls exists and she wasn't just pulling an answer out of her ass there.

And this, is why stories are awesome. You don't know what will happen next, it is left for your imagination.

So what do you want to happen to them? I tend to prefer dramatic end on my side, with nostalgia involved lol.

You're right. The show runners and writers are not on the same page. At least it seems that way. I remember on an EFN webcast of a con, Tara Strong put two of the writers on the spot and asked if Alicorns are immortal and she said one was nodding and one was shaking their head no.

But as you said, it sure as hell makes for some fun speculation.

Twilight, Dash, and AJ go down in a blaze of glory!

The others live on to tell the tale in song, drink, and costume
