  1. For both writing and drawing, I put on a song that matches the atmosphere I'm going for. If I'm not feeling inspired or motivated, it helps ease the process along, and if I'm lucky, something in the music will reignite my desire to art, or even better, give me an idea. But that's just me. Music is of abnormal importance to my life XD
  2. Oh, they know about the fan reaction to Alicorn Twilight all right. They wouldn't have apologized profusely if they hadn't. Really, I feel sorry for the writers - Hasbro has a habit of putting them on the spot time and again, but they continue to handle it with grace. I thought I was going to be upset about Alicorn Twilight, but I'm not. Now that I think about it, it could be used to explore some interesting aspects of the universe. I think they'll turn her back into a Unicorn or something similar, but honestly, I'd be fine either way. Live and let live, as they say.
  3. I love music - it permeates every aspect of my life, but as a writer (mostly original, some fan fiction) it gains an extra layer of importance. If I'm suffering from writer's block, a good, fitting song can get me over the hump, but even better, listening to the right song while writing a scene can improve my word choice, flow, writing speed, and general creativity. It's like creativity steroids. Past that, if I'm listening to a really, really good song, it gets me feeling almost... euphoric, I suppose. Not just happy, but beyond happy - happy in a way that nothing else can come close to emulating. So yeah, music is pretty big for me XD
  4. Twilight becoming an Alicorn was probably the biggest for me. The entire thing was so well structured, so well executed... to say I got misty-eyed would be an understatement. Liquid pride everywhere.
  5. Yeah, I've seen about enough alicorns. The concept of godhood and being somehow special loses all its weight if the writers just keep making more of them. Luna and Celestia: fantastic. Cadence: doesn't match the pattern, but she's pretty cool. Twilight: fits the pattern, but come on, guys. Seriously? A fourth one? If they keep doing that, then it'll just be a gimmick and not a meaningful transformation or character addition.
  6. Rainbow Dash was my favourite pony from the start. I liked Twilight because I identified with her, but I just *loved* Rainbow's character. She was brash and strongheaded, but capable, and as I saw more and more episodes with her, it was clear this loud, boastful mask concealed a complex and deeply flawed character, more terrified of failure than death. And nothing really gets me more than a complex and flawed character. When I started writing fan fiction, however - that's when I started to notice Spitfire. This was back when her only speaking parts were in Hurricane Fluttershy and at the gala, but from what I could see, she was a lot like Rainbow in all the good ways - amiable, confident, and immensely capable, but without the crippling fear of failure or stronheaded and foolish approach to problems. That's when I realized that Spitfire is Rainbow's dream given life. Spitfire *is* Rainbow, if everything in life works out. And that is why the two characters are tied and balanced as my favourite ponies - they complement each other nicely, and tell a subtle background story without words. I also ship them relentlessly.
  7. Rainbowshy was *adorable*. I'd kill to see more of that crossover XD Pinkamena/Applejack was pretty funny too. All in all, I thought the character crossover thing was a hilarious and awesome idea on the part of the show devs.
  8. A True True Friend and Celestia's Ballad are ferociously scrapping at the top of the pile in my book. Despite the overbearing amount of music in the finale, these two songs really, really stood out - not just for the season, but for the entire show.
  9. You can make it so that people can pick more than one? Oops. *facedesk* I'll go fix that. picking more than one helps avoid the pigeonholing issue nicely XD Edit: fixed the living crap out of that poll.
  10. Oh, I doubt anyone perfectly fits into one of these categories. I was just asking about which one bronies felt they fit into the best
  11. I stumbled across this image recently, and of course, I couldn't help but post it here. ?I am most definitely the Analyzer - Dozens of fics, even more headcanons, and lengthy show interpretation sessions shove me so far into that corner I can't even see the other camps from where I'm sitting, even though I do some visual art on the side. So, out of curiosity - which one (or more than one) are you, and why? Oh, and if anyone knows who made this image, please let me know so I can credit them.
  12. Let me quote the annals of 4Chan, section: the Rules of the Internet. 34) There is porn of it. No exceptions. 35) If no porn is found at the moment, it will be made. Porn is common in every fandom. It's completely unavoidable, but you can help by enabling moderate or strict safe-search on google - you will still encounter r34, just not as frequently.
  13. I'm just going to get my opinion out there. Make of it what you will, but know that I will not be responding to people raging. I LOVED the episode. I was expecting to get upset about Alicorn Twilight, but I wasn't. The plot of the episode itself was fantastic, the songs were probably the best in the series so far, and there aren't words to describe what I was feeling by the end. Misty-eyed would be an understatement, there was just this incredible feeling of... I don't know, 'we've come so far' I suppose. I was expecting Alicorn Twilight to be this horrible thing just shoehorned in, and though it might have been just that, the transition was smoothed over, perfectly integrated into the episode and plot, and steeped in emotion. I suppose I really do trust the writers now. I was expecting to be in a rage, but they managed to make me not only deal with the change, but appreciate it. Bravo, MLP dev team - you took Hasbro's idiocy and turned it into something beautiful.
  14. I LIKE NICKELBACK. SHUT UP. But yeah, their music is very solid. Strong rhythm, excellent melody and use of instruments in composition - the lyrics aren't the most innovative, but they're still quite solid - generally, good music. It's not earth-shattering, but it's a hell of a lot better than a lot of the stuff that's out there.
  15. I've only been a Brony for a year, but all this talk of giving up is already making me sick. As a fandom, as a community, we have endured a lot - probably more than any other fandom or community. People send us death threats, people stalk and attack our videos and creations, people do their damndest to make our lives a living hell, but we have endured. And now, people are talking about leaving because Hasbro has made one stupid mistake? Use that spine that you've grown and DEAL WITH IT!! See, I'm also a Browncoat. We're a community that has thrived, after our show was shut down after a half season, after we were handed a movie and told to shut up, after talk of rebooting the show was shot down. How do we do it? We look at what we have and we appreciate it. Why can't we Bronies do the same? It doesn't MATTER if the show has jumped the shark, it doesn't MATTER if everything from now on is stupid and broken, because we have *so much* that we can remember and love! Even if it's the end, why does that mean it should be the end for us? (and seriously, guys, there is no evidence whatsoever suggesting that the show is going to be destroyed by this change. Pull up your big boy pants and wait.)
  16. I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Why would you be coming up with a plot that would match canon if you're not writing a fic or doing something similar? Are you hypothising about the plotline of a future episode? I'm confused .___. And Celestia has plenty of obvious motivation for mentoring Twilight. Twi is an *extremely* powerful caster and a dedicated student. Celestia saw promise and potential in her, so she took her on. Cadence's parents showing up and saying 'IMMA TAKE YOUR BABY NOW' is just completely arbitrary and random.
  17. Nah, you're not a hypocrite, and you're certainly not the only brony metalhead. I'm a bit of a metal fan myself - mostly symphonic stuff, like Serenity or Nightwish. But yeah. He's an ass, and feel free to tell him that. If anyone could be considered a hypocrite, it's him - metal often has excellent lyrics and a positive message, but ICP is pretty bunk.
  18. There needs to be some kind of motivation. Why would one of Cadence's parents try to take her child? Beyond that, would Cadence's parents still be alive? It's now clear that ordinary ponies can become Alicorns, and we don't know how long Cadence has been one of them. Fundamentally, it's not a bad start, but it needs a bit more thought if you want your readers to take it seriously.
  19. No. This is just a petition that some random guy posted on Whitehouse.org - anyone can open a new petition there. Heck, I could petition the American government to make hating on MLP illegal if I wanted to.
  20. I don't believe there should be anything of the sort. The internet is sort of the last great bastion of free speech, where nothing you say will bring down the mighty hammer of god. But in terms of posting someone else's personal information, that should not be legal. That's not a matter of free speech, it's a matter of compromising someone's personal security.
  21. Lol, sure. Cute how you say this in hindsight, once your points have been shot to pieces and the arguments supporting your statements have been invalidated.
  22. Whoa whoa whoa. Let me address this point by point. One: Computers are much less expensive than most people would think. If you do your research and use your brain, you can build a computer that will run games for the next two console generations for a thousand bucks. Two: Downright incorrect. Thumbsticks are slow, clunky, and imprecise. You can have either precision (low sensitivity) or speed (high sensitivity). With a mouse, you have both precision and speed, unlimited by hardware, and defined only by skill. Some fighters, shmups, and platformers are better with a controller (Street Fighter, Super Meat Boy, Castle Crashers) but for shooters, action RPG's, puzzle games, strategy games, and most specifically RTS games and simulators, mouse and keyboard is much more efficient, and actually has enough buttons to allow you to play the game without hamstringing the game's interactivity. Three: Having the largest library of indie games and the best of high-fidelity graphics and bonus content is worth several seconds of number-checking. Four: Installing the game means that A: your have very, very small loading times, B: you don't have to worry about buying a new copy if you damage or lose your disk, and C: on PS3, you have to install games anyway and still suffer through the first two problems. 'Nuff said. Five: Come on, man. If you have antivirus and a brain you can run a computer virus free. Six: Actually, sitting at a desk close to a screen rather than on a couch far from a screen fills more of your vision with said screen, even if it is physically smaller. And resolution? Dude. You can crank the resolution, you can download mods, user patches, and enable upgraded graphics settings that consoles can't handle because they're eight year old hardware. You can mod the game yourself. You can buy the game for a fraction of the price that you would spend on a console game due to Steam. Not only that, but there's the indie market I mentioned earlier - hundreds and hundreds games more unique and interesting than any console exclusive, which will never, ever come to console. I can't tell if you're trolling or just know nothing about PC gaming. Edit: Oh, one last thing. Are you browsing this forum on a console, or on a PC? I'll let you think about that one.
  23. While I would say that our greatest enemy is the vocal anti-brony community, I agree to you to an extent about conservatives being dangerous to us. Pretty much every single anti-brony I've scrapped with is a gun nut, or bible thumper whose best argument is that I'm 'gay'. Edit: I don't fundamentally dislike conservatives. I dislike the types I listed - gun nuts and bible thumpers who immediately assume I'm gay and say so.
  24. I *vastly* prefer Rainbow Factory. Cupcakes is, literally, just torture porn. Rainbow Factory has a good story, is much better written, and has genuinely heart-wrenching and emotional moments. Rainbow Factory is how grimdark should be done. Cupcakes is just gory.
  25. I could see why somebody would like a Mac. Mac OS has always been very sleek and very easy to use, but for an advanced user, it's incredibly restrictive. Windows (excepting the horrendous Windows 8) is incredibly customizable and lies wide open for tweaking and modification by users who know what they're doing. Beyond that, the hardware is much, much, MUCH less expensive. You can literally get a PC that's twice as powerful as a Mac for the same price. I have a heavy duty gaming rig that ran me ~900 dollars - this thing can handle Crysis 2 at 1080p and 60 flat FPS. Similar power in a Mac would run me 1.5 - 2,000 dollars. As a gamer and a programmer, PC is my poison of choice, but for an artist or lightweight user who doesn't want to manage the finer points of the system, I could see the appeal of a Mac. But in the end, Linux FTW. I'd be running Ubuntu if it could game.
