  1. THINGS I WOULD HAVE DONE! More Rarity. Better build up to Twilght Princess (other than just "IMMA STUDYIN' 12 BOOKS THIS WEEKEND, HEE-YUK") More epic plot for the Alicorn transformation (I like the cutie mark plot, but just not as the season finale. maybe as a lead into the finale) Magic Duel, Keep Calm and Flutter On, and Magical Mystery Cure would have been two-parters. More slice of life stuff. Just For Sidekicks would not exist (at least in its current form. too sleepy to elaborate.) More electric guitars.
  2. I'm of the opinion that the reason A Canterlot Wedding is as loved by the community as it is is mostly because of Chrysalis. Without her, it's an alright pair of episodes with some more frustrating bits. Her, her song, and her cheese legs elevated the whole thing and made it memorable. As I said in the Season 4 wishlist thread, I'd like to see her return. I find her quite the entertaining persona, and I can see her and her army of party cannon fodder minions becoming regular bad guys for the Mane 6 to fight when there isn't any kingdoms to save or chaos gods to overthrow. Speaking of Chrysalis: That got bizzarly dark...
  3. TOP FIVE COUNTDOWN, GO! 5.) APPLE FAMILY REUNION 4.) THE CRYSTAL EMPIRE 3.) WONDERBOLTS ACADEMY 2.) TOO MANY PINKIE PIES! 1.) SLEEPLESS IN PONYVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I would also like more episodes that give characters more to do than what their personalities dictate. For insatnce, a Rarity episode that isn't about dresses or high society (Sisterhooves Social and A Dog and Pony Show), or a Fluttershy episode that isn't about her anxiety (like Keep Calm and Flutter On), or a Scootaloo episode that isnt about learning to fly or Rainbow Dash.
  5. I was just thinking about how Starswirl was stated to have not understood the Magic of Friendship. Pretty intresting that a character who is constantly refered to as this highly respected wizard and important figure in Equestrian history would be ignorant to such a big part of this universe's mythology. I don't know if I necessarily think he'd be a villain, but i definitley want to take a closer look at this guy. You hit the nail on the head with the "Twilight Sparkle Hour" comment. My major concern with the Twilight Princess thing has always been the possibility that she could be made even more marginilized. I really hope that in the future, more of the adventure stories use other members of the Mane 6 as main characters. FiM is supposed to be about this whole group growing and overcoming conflicts together, which makes it weird when the show constantly signals out Twilight as the most important one.
  6. I know that MLP is da shiz right now, and I'm sure Hasbro wants to cash in all this (they're a corporation, so I don't blame them), but is humanized ponies really the way to go? Girls like ponies, so make more ponies. It's basic physics, guys. On that note, are the dolls going to be like that image where they all have the same skin tones as their equine counterparts? It looks weird and quite frankly, it's unappealing. Rarity and Rainbow Dash look like zombies. Monster High can get away with it, but that's only because the characters actually are zombies and junk.
  7. Rarity has the most consitent episodes out of the Mane 6. There was never a Mysterious Mare Do Well or Super Squeezy Cider 6000 to make me think less of her. Rarity is just awesome in pretty much any episode that gives her considerable screentime. I think it was sometime between her hijinks in the climax to Sweet and Elite and her interactions with Spike in Secret of My Excess that I realized that she is Best Pony.
  8. Because her flank is plastered with gems. Best explaination I can think of. Anywho, as cute as all that dragon-pony baby stuff would be, I assume that if they wanted kids, they'd just adopt.
  9. Sorry if I repeat what other people have said. Cool people think alike or whatever... I want Exploration of Nightmare Moon's downfall and maybe a more concrete explaination of Equestrian history. Chrysalis, please. Another Scootaloo episode, of course. Adventure in the Griffin Kingdom. Weird Al pony, because why not. Rarity. Just more of her. More focused and prominet story arc. Not over the entire season, but maybe a story that plays out over several episodes or is woven into other stories. CMC episodes that don't focus on them crusading, because those seem to be the better ones. Unless it's Ponyville Confidential. Then I just feel dead inside. [sUPER WISHFUL THINKING MODE ENGAGE] Another speaking cameo bit for Derpy? Time traveling story with Time Turner (voiced by an actor who has actually played the Doctor). Morgan Freeman as Angel Bunny. Kitten Calendars. Take a page from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and have one of the characters randomly say "damn". I'd just think it'd be hilarious if a pony just randomly said "damn". An adaption of my epic fanfic about how my OC Silver Flash seduces Twilight Sparkle and saves Equestria and becomes a princess and captain of the Wonderbolts, and is Rainbow Dash's son from the future. [sUPER WISHFUL THINKING MODE DISENGAGE]
  10. Here's some copy pasta for you from a post I made in a similar thread regarding weak episodes: I feel like a broken record at this point, what with the defending of the Spike and the Dragon Codes and the what-zits. Sorry for being that guy, but that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. EDIT: Sorry for wall of text format on the quote. I suck at this.
  11. My head cannon is that dragons will naturally grow up like any other animal, it's just that hoarding speeds it up, and I guess makes a dragon more like this: as oppoused to the cute, wubbable dragon Spike is. I always thought that Spike and those dragons he met in Dragon Quest are the same age. It's just that they spend most of their time doing dragon things, as oppoused to Spike, who bakes cookies. And becuase there are always other dragons to compete with, and because the stuff they've been taught to hoard is much rarer than the stuff Spike was hoarding in Secret of My Excess, they won't grow out of control like Spike did. Spike's maturation is perfectly fine, and he won't be stuck as baby-lookin' fellar forever. He just won't look as badass as regular dragons.
  12. I have the same mindset. But even if this is her last appearance on the show, it's a pretty nice final shoutout to the community. If she is back, then my offical head cannon is that she spent all of S3 time travelling.
  13. Derpy wasn't seen in S3 at all (some people say she's in that crowd at the end of Magic Duel, but you can barley tell with a magnifying glass). This seemed to coincide with those phasing out rumors, convincing many fans (myself included) that she really was forced out after Derpygate. But in yesterday's episode, Derpy finally made several reappearances, which many are taking as DHX saying that she is offically here to stay. EDIT: Sorry, I derped the link. Just gonna post the pictures.
  14. I don't have any idea as to what she will control, but I hope it isn't the Elements. I've never perscribed to the idea that her element, Magic, is more important than the others. Each one is equally important, and if one would to be absent, the whole thing wouldn't work (both metaphorically and literally because the Elements' powers don't work unless everyone is present). To give Twilight complete contol of the Elements would greatly diminish their meaning and the roles of the others.
  15. Glad to see someone agress with me on Just For Sidekicks. Good critique of the season overall, good chap.
  16. The Crystal Empire is probably my favorite two-parter thus far. Yes, even more than A Canterlot Wedding. While the villain wasn't as strong (though I believe Sombra doesn't get enough credit for being as evil if not more so than Chrysalis and being the only villain smart enough to realize that the power of friendship/love could defeat him and thus took proper precautions), it included the entire Mane 6 (and Spike, too!) rather than just have Twilight have to do everything herself as usual, it was exciting, and it was well paced, never feeling like something could have been expanded on like the other two parters. And the production quality is top notch throughout, from the music, to the animation (WINDY MANE FTW), to the design of The Crystal Empire itself. A great way to open up a season. 9/10 Too Many Pinkie Pies was way better than I expected it to be. Pinkie is always hit or miss with me, but I absolutley love her in this episode: she's genuinley funny, the existensial crisis bit was heart breaking, and she fits the "clones-running-amok" plot perfectly. It was a wise desicion to focus on the characters' reactions to the clones rather than all the car-razy antics of the Pinkie clones, and the resolution of the conflict is both creative and ambiguous (we have to have faith that the right Pinkie was the one who passed the test rather than being told outright that that was the real her). Overall, pretty flippin' sweet. 9.5/10 One Bad Apple is just okay; there's arguments to be made for both its quality or its mediocrity. One one hoof, the song is catchy, the CMC get some great character moments throughout (forgiving Babs after the hell she put them through speaks alot about her charcter), I kinda like Babs, and it's cool that they're tackaling bullying. On the other hoof, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have absolutley no character development at all and I cringe whenever I see them (not because they are bullies, but because they're incredibly lame bully characers), I think it should have been Applejack who said something to them at the end, it's kind of predictable, and i think that it tries to hard to be cute sometimes (a man can only take so much diabeetus before it gets redundant). I think the good outweighs the bad, and i guess I enjoyed it. 7/10 Magic Duel was a dissapointment the first time I watched it, due to my lofty expectations, but with subsequent viewings, it has improved. I always felt Trixie got royally screwed over for doing her job in Boast Busters, so it was satisfying in the first act to see that the writers had actually taken the route I thought would be best for her return episode; she was humilated after the Ursa Minor incident, and comes back to seek (maybe not entirely unjustified) revenge. I'm also liking the fact that the show seems to be following my head cannon for dark magic (it amplifies the wort aspects of the pony using it). Magic training with Zecora was cool (even if it was entirley glazed over) and I like that they defeat the villain by using cunning and teamwork, as oppoused to just shooting rainbows everywhere. That said, the episodeshould have been a two parter (like it was originally suppoused to be), as it felt like it was in fast forward sometimes. And while she was cute in the ninja-bunny outfit thing, you'd think that after facing down a dragon, a changeling army, and Mr. T, Fluttershy would be less...cowardly. Ah well, It was good episode nonetheless. 8/10 Sleepless in Ponyville is perfect, and is probably now my favorite episode. The characterization of Scootaloo and her relationship to Rainbow Dash is excellent and has the potential to set up great stories in the future. The use of Princess Luna was a nice surprise and helped to greatly developed her role as a ruler. The interactions between the cast is great, it strikes the right balance between drama and comedy, and it's the most HNNNNG inducing episode of the season. Reminds me of why I love this show in the first place. 10/10 Wonderbolt Academy is plain awesome. Rainbow Dash has earned a lot of love from me over this season, and alot of that good will came from this episode. She's retained character development better than anypony else, and this story felt like a true test of character and the lessons she's learned. Her desicion to quit her Wonderbolts training was surprising and instantly gained her my respect, and though the writers eventually used a happier ending as oppoused to the [somewhat depressing] ending they originally intended, it's still a very mature resolution that felt earned. Also, the animation was fantastic, the use of background ponies was great, and Pinkie is hilarious. And while I may be a minority on this, Spitfire is awesome in this episode; I like the idea of her being this layed back, approachable pony in real life, but once she gets into a professional setting, you don't mess with her. Overall, great episode, Rainbow Dash is best pony of the season. 9/10 Apple Family Reunion is a pretty darn good episode. It doesn't do anything particularly intresting, but hey, we finally get another Applejack epsidoe where she's actually in it, and she get's a solo this time (and a really awesome one, too!). People complain that more emphasis is place on AJ's family rather than her, but that's the best way to approach her stories, I think; family is a big part of who she is, and they're badass anyway. The comedy is great, heart warming, and it's a lot of fun. And the hint at AJ's parents was ingenious; bronies and observant kids will get it, and it brings a level of meaning to AJ's efforts in the story without feling out of place with the light hearted nature of the episode. Classy. 8.5/10 Spike at Your Service gets way to much crap, IMO. It was weird to see Spike act so clumsy (to the point that I speculated that this was originally penned as a Derpy episode), but it's nice to see this evolution of his heroism in The Crystal Empire into this noble (if not misguided) attempt at chivalry. It's overall an enjoyable episode that features at least one great moment from everypony and some awesome set pieces involving the [totally badass] timberwolves. Good stuff, good stuff. 8/10 Keep Calm and Flutter on is solid for the most part. Discord is bucking awesome in every scene he's in, it's nice to finally get a Fluttershy episode that isn't about her social anxiety, both of them have some good chemistry together, it's very funny, and there's Disney refrences galore. However, like Magic Duel, I feel that it should have been a two parter, even more so then that episode. I actually have no problems with Discord's heel-face-turn, as it could lead to some great, TNG-esque stories in the future. However, it was extremely rushed. The basic outline of his reformation is there, but I never really felt that Discord appreciated Fluttershy up to that point. All she ever did was tolerate his BS. We never really saw her genuinley befriend Discord, and I'm still not sure why the god of chaos wouls suddenly value friendship. I like the episode, but again, it was rushed. 7.5/10 Just For Sidekicks stinks. I know everybody else likes it, but I just didn't like it, and it's only getting worst the more i think about it. I've already talked at great length about why I dislike it so, but in short, I think it's needlessy mean to Spike, who's written as a fail-tastic butt monkey jerk, a derailment from the nuanced hero we saw before. There's some good moments in the beginning, particularly with Rainbow Dash and Tank, but it's all eclipsed by the main plot. I can't stand this episode, but apparently I'm the only one. 4/10 Games Ponies Play is an episode I do not care for. There's some good stuff with Mane 6, I find myself liking that weird mustang pony, and seeing Rainbow Dad was a pleasant surprise. Otherwise, though, it's just meh. The idea is meh, the misundertsnading around which the episode is based is meh, and the final resolution is meh. Also, after a season of no episodes about her, I was dissapointed to see Best Pony Rarity get pushed out of the main plot. Meh. 5/10 I think it may be too early for me to call Magical Mystery Cure. It's been only an hour or two since I watched it. Overall, the songs were great, and animation is pretty stellar, and it's heart-warming TO THE MAX. It feels satisfying to see how far Twilight and her friends have come. However, I wished they had kept the alicorn thing as the resolution to something more...epic, I guess, and I think that in some areas, it's rushed in terms of plot (the main conflict is explained in a flashback). I'm not against the idea of Twilight being an alicorn. For now. Eventually, I do believe there's going to be some conflict in which Twilight will (or must) give up her princess status as the ultimate act of D'AWWWW. But as of right now, I'm a bit confused as to what this all entails, or why it was important naritive-wise for this is too occur now. All in good time, I suppouse. Overall, I liked it. 8/10 I very much enjoyed this season, despite some grievances with some episodes, and I had a good time experiencing my first live airing of a season with this fandom. Here's to hoping season 4 is 40% cooler. And welcome back, Derpy.
  17. The very first theory as to what that book was that I heard was that it was Starswirl's, kind of like how the very first thing I heard after the season opener was "Dude, Twilight's totally gonna become an alicorn". I think it's weird that Starswirl couldnt finish the spell because he didn't understand the power of friendship. So...Starswirl had no friends?
  18. MMDW has a few nice moments (Rainbow Dash by herself on that cloud is one of my favorite scenes focusing on her, and she seems to have become a stronger character because of this episode), but it's frustrating to watch most of the time, and the Mane 6 are way out of character. Probably don't have to elaborate on this one, it seems. I hate Super-Squeezy-Cider-6000-Whatever. The song is good and hearing Double D's voice come out of a unicorn is funny, but everything else just sucks. The moral is all messed up in ways too complicated to explain without going on and on, Applejack comes off as smug, the whole conflict comes up because everyone is acting dumb, there's alot of weird character moments that don't sit right with me, and I want to punch Pinkie Pie in the face. Ponyville Confidental is boring, cliched, and predictable. The way all the adults treat the CMC in the third act was downright cruel, no matter how you slice it, and I find it very hard to watch. And unlike the other episodes I mentioned, this one has no redeeming qualities. I think I'm the only person who disliked Just For Sidekicks, but I just really can't understand why Spike At Your Service is hated while this one gets nothing but praise. Yes, it was weird how Spike was suddenly bad at housework, and the dragon code came out of nowhere (though I just assumed that all dragons have a personal code of honor, and Spike's adventures in Dragon Quest and The Crystal Empire inspired him to make his less about hoarding and more about being chivalrous), but the argument that it some how derails his character is baseless. It demonstartes his devotion to his friends and enthusiasm to help others (even if he doesn't realize he's in over his head). Somehow, that's unacceptable, but everyone is satisfied with his butt monkey status is JFS. I get that the episode's moral was about not shirking responsibility and helping others out of kindness, not out of personal gain, but watching Spike being upset that he didn't get invited to the Crystal Empire, getting dumped on by everyone in Ponyville, being portrayed as a careless jerk, and finally not being able to make his cake even after he learned his lesson was cringeworthy for me. He went from being a nuanced, actually sorta noble hero worthy of a stain glass window to a fail-tastic butt monkey in this episode, and it's Spike At Your Service that gets the bad wrap? I had alot to get off my chest with that one. (But seriously, why wasn't he invited to the Empire? Was saving all of Equestria from slavery, misery, and DEATH not enough to earn him an invite? There was no reason to bring that fact up; if he was just staying home like usual, that'd be fine, but no, a point is made about how disapointed he is just because "screw you, Spike!". Man, I hate dislike that episode.)
  19. (I apologize in advance for any typos. I suck.) My friend and I were just discussing this the other week, and we eventually came to the dragon-king-dude idea. One of us (I forgot who), suggested that the king should be Spike's father (DRAMA.). Then we both agreed that if there is a dragon-king-dude, he needs to be voiced by Keith David. There is no other way. Chrysalis should be a regular villain, and she should kill cats like she did in the IDW comic. I always thought it'd be cool if there was a princess bad guy. And I dont mean like Princess Azula or anything, I mean like a character who at first comes off as a Disney Princess do-gooder, like Cadence, but is revealed to actually be a Lady Macbeth-esque villain that's been working behind the scenes to aquire power and upsurp Equestria/Griffon Kingdom/Aquastria/McDonalds or something. And the character we assumed was the main antagonist of the story? He's been working for her the whole time. And I think we can all agree that at some point there needs to be a villain voiced by Mark Hamill. I don't care who it is. Whoever's voiced by him will automatically take a step in badass.
  20. If the whole thing is only a single 22 minute episode, there's gonna have to be a cliffhanger. As it stands, we have this whole "switching destinies" thing to deal with, then they have to establish how messed up everything is now, then we have Twilight searching for a cure, maybe a musical number, Twilight learning she will be a princess, then the actual transformation into said princess, which is suppoused be the cumulation of three seasons worth of character development, so that should be getting time to register what that implies for both Twilight and the audience, the resolution to the cure storyline, and then maybe a hint at the black book, plus all the usual stuff that comes with season finales.
