  1. I see it as a place to go back to. A warm comfy home with loving people. Some squabbles here and there, but its a home, when the IRL social life gets too out of hand. I dont know if it really helped me in my social life.
  2. Well, what I think of this fandom ending thing is its not going to happen as drastically as many would think. I would say that I would compare the fandoms to the growth of a child. We are in a sort of adolescence, where we are just questioning what is the future. We dont know, its not clear. Some things fall apart and some things we will move on from. But one thing is for sure, we will grow from this. Sure, it might not be as I remember, the boom in 2011 -2012, which was like celebrating a childhood. But we would eventually move on as a fandom into the adulthood, where we find and stick to the core which makes a place for us in the world. My view is that our creativity will shine through as the core, and that will sustain us for generations. I mean, look at fandoms like star wars. 20 years separates each trilogy, and they can keep themselves going for so many years. What is to say we wont do the same?
  3. Its rather...interesting to say the least. The volume of politics present in a diplomatic forum is nuts, and this is no different. As much as Spike did let power go to his head, he couldnt exactly stand around and do nothing. Especially the arbitration cases. To any diplomat, the sovereign or the representative of the sovereign refusing to settle a dispute is a sign that you are unimportant. That isnt a very good tone to send across to a gathering of such people. Of course, Spike just tries to settle the issues as best he can. After all, Twily wasnt.....functional enough to answer questions. But in the end, there are many ways to look at it, but in the end, I would say the blame should be equal amongst all parties. Twily should have rested more, Spike could have deferred to other authority(Cadence did have enough time to check on him....) The delegates could have paid a little more attention to the state of the Princess, and the other Princesses could have managed the situation just as much by removing the stress load on Twilight.
  4. Magic in Equestria is a very interesting and strange concept. Unicorns can use it extensively, and it affects Pegasi and Earth Ponies in their daily tasks. It is also present in creatures and all throughout Equestria, which leads me to wonder, what is it? Alright, its going to get real complex past this point, so apologies. Ok .Energy in this context I would say is the ability for something to do work. Heat energy is simply the energy of vibrating particles, kinetic is movement, doing work, chemical and nuclear are stored forms of heat and light, which both excite particles into moving, and thus doing work. Simple enough. Why I would say Magic is a form of energy is is what it does. It primarily does work too. In terms of Pegasi, it appears to provide some form of ease in flight. This work done against the gravity of the planet means that work is being done to counteract the force. For Earth Ponies, it appears to supplement their biological strength. For unicorns, the skills we see so far are primarily levitation and teleportation, which is all about the movement of matter, once again fitting this definition of energy. In addition to this, it seems to be used in some machines too. How this energy is generated appears to be inbred into every single pony from birth. It is an essence that appears to be only with ponies and nothing else. Now, the energy theory cannot explain the varying traits and the fact that it doesnt just float around in the air and can be refined and extracted. Thus, I have a theory that would be a little insane. Its a cell, coded with a special particle that provides this magical energy, which is then manipulated by the cell to create differing effects. I would think this particle would be sort of like the Higgs-Boson. The particle istelf is nothing of remark, but the field surrounding it provides matter with mass. Similarly for this "Magic" particle would be generating a "magic" field around it. This could then be manipulated by the cell to provide differing effects, and the manner in which this manipulation occurs could be coded into the pony gene pool as the different races. How this cell and associated particle would work, I have a theory. This particle is everywhere in Equestria, just like the Higgs Boson is in our world. However, this cell in the equine system is able to concentrate and manipulate these particles and their associated fields. It could potentially resonate these fields to create a sort of magic wave, similar to an Electromagnetic wave from the EM spectrum. At particular wavelengths of these fields, it can interact with other particles, and be transmitted through the air or whatever medium it encounters. These can then be concentrated on particular particles for certain effects. Thus, using this, ponies can interact with their environment in ways they cannot see. For Pegasi for example, they could be inducing a high frequency magic wave, which could then interact with the air particles. The heating due to the induced energy could potentially either create air drafts, or mechanically push them upwards by the expanding air. For Earth Ponies, their interaction could be biological. Their cells could be inducing waves as a more powerful form of metabolism, where energy is transmitted directly to the particles in their muscles, which then can be converted back and used in some ADP-ATP reaction catalysed by this magical energy. Then...the unicorns. Its still fits under this theory, even though its more complex. They are able to levitate objects. Something that does not have these specialist cells. There is one possibility. Induction. Just like Electromagnetic Induction, this makes it possible that the energy is induced in the object, creating this same levitating ability of pegasi without having these particular cells. Thus, it would make the unicorn horn...essentially an antenna for this energy. A site of Magic field induction. Transmutation is a little more difficult, but still explainable. It could be a complex form of atom smashing. Basically, its the forcing of two particular atoms together to form a new one, using the attached Magic sub-particle. By inducing it to collide at high speeds, fusion essentially takes place on a quantum scale. The heat blasts from failed magic is easily explained in this theory. Simply, unordered directional induction of this energy would simply heat the particles. Then....teleportation. Hardest to explain or understand. The pony has to move itself to another place, with all its neurons intact. One possibility is acclerated movement at near light speed to the direction. Just using the particles around it as a heat shield, the pony moves in a vaccum state from one place to another at extreme speeds, and makes that signature blast of magic when they disappear and appear again. Why you dont see them in transit is due to the concept of light speed. When you get closer to light speed, time warps to prevent you from ever breaking the speed limit. Thus, this can magnify the apparent speed of the unicorn in question, making the shift almost instant in your perspective. Now, I know these theories bank on there being a huge source of energy to use, since all these actions need impossibly large amounts of energy to work even on a single pony. But then again, our universe is filled with dark energy, that we havent learned to tap into....Maybe they have.
  5. How did you find MLP Forums?: How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Hi. Well, its a bit obvious I am not new to this place. But one thing that is new is a new outlook on life and a fresh start. Its time to stop hiding in a shell and step into the light, and no better way than opening myself up to the fandom that has been a core part of my life. My 4 years of sickness is over, its time to be new again. Im becoming more artistic,(looking for inspiration for my pony-banner making, any ideas are appreciated), taking the show waaay too seriously(any ideas are welcome too) and looking for friends for once in many years. (Id like to meet and talk regularly with other bronies) You could say I feel a little like Twilight in the very first episode. In a way.
  6. Money in Equestria is interesting. As of the the most recent episode, all of Equestria accepts the bit as the universal mode of trade, whereas most human countries will make a new currency when they are even slightly different. But its interesting to ask where the bit came from, since we see its use since the old times from ponies like Granny Smith. My suspicion is that the bit is a fiat currency, created to keep all the races of Equestria equal and happy. Let me explain. The way gems exist in Equestria, I suspect they were originally used as a manner of trade, just like humans did with gold. Its hard to find, nice to look at, and is a lot more useable than the barter system, even though that still exists in Equestria. However, when things become money, people will try to circumvent the system in order to make themselves a whole lot wealthier. Since technically the more you find of it, the more powerful you become since you can obtain more things. This is where I find the problem. Unicorns and Alicorns, with their active usage of magic, would be able to identify and collect gems quickly, making them the wealthiest of the bunch. This supports their original ideology as a aristocracy, shown in the founding of Equestria, since they did technically have a lot of the money. Before you ask about why they fought over food just before the founding of Equestria, the answer is simple. Money breaks down in times of crisis, since supplies have to be rationed. Thus, it didnt matter when the Windigoes came, everyone was on their own when it came to food and survival, money wasnt a question. It could also explain why they were, I quote, "Starving and freezing" in contrast to the Earth Ponies and the Pegasi, which only had one of said problems each. Maybe they over-relied on their stocks of gems, that they kept no actual stocks of firewood and food. Also addressing the potential barter system the Earth Ponies had in order for safe weather and the Sun and the Moon cycles from the Pegasi and Unicorns respectively, it comes back to the valuation of goods and services. How do you value one day of clear skies in terms of food? And what about the fact that you need good weather to produce food to begin with? Some form of credit must have existed, promising a certain amount of food in exchange for perfect weather for the year. This would have been the foundations of a currency, the promissory note. Back to the explaination. The Earth ponies would not need to care about finding the gems, since they would simply be able to produce the goods that the rest of the ponies needed. The unicorns would have to use the gems to trade for food and materials that the Earth Ponies are so adept at obtaining. This explains the fact that a lot of Earth Ponies have professions in trading and selling, considering that is the skill they would have needed to get the best value out of their goods, ingrained in their culture from the beginning. They would then use these gems as payment for good weather and the shifts in night and day. The Pegasi would need to focus completely on controlling weather. Any kind of mess-up on their part would result in failed crops, and tension between them and the Earth Ponies. This could be behind the reason all Pegasi value their physical strength so much, since they needed a lot of workers to manage their vital service, which is good weather for the Earth ponies. They would have been paid in return in the crops that were produced. This single-industry centric culture would thus have been created, like the Weather Factory in Cloudsdale, and the fact that they conscript all Pegasi to help in major weather events, like Winter Wrap Up and resupplying the Weather Factory with water, as per Hurricane Fluttershy. This kind of system would have worked fine, except that ponies wouldnt be too happy with the Unicorns, who take on an Aristocratic role and just simply raise the sun and moon, but otherwise just use their gems to get everything else they need. This would carry on past the founding of Equestria, until someone can make a change in this original system. Enter the Alicorns. Since they represent all races, they can make changes without causing undue harm. Thus, one thing they might have done is to make a fiat currency to replace gems, since nobody had anything to lose from the switch. The Unicorns are fine being there, since they would have a lot of wealth through their gems. Many years of trading through gems means they could have built up massive cities and massed stockpiles everything, so losing the gems wouldnt be that harmful. The Earth Poines and Pegasi wouldnt be unduly upset, since they now would have more control over their currency instead of it being managed by a single race. And thats my headcanon on money in Equestria.
  7. Finally got to see it. I felt the episode was rather relatable in a way to some people. It may be true that its difficult to let go of clinging to one friend when you feel you dont know anyone else that well. Its nice to see a continued style where the concepts still relate to us people. Tree Hugger just screamed hippie from the mere mention of her name. I thought that she could do with a little more depth and a little less stereotype. Discord's awkwardness wasnt too pleasant to watch either. Seriously Hasbro? You had to steal Snake's box and exclamation mark? Well, at least you left the alert tone behind. Still....all the pop culture references. Also, it seems like Celestia is becoming more Trollestia now. She specifically invites characters that cause trouble to the Gala to, "make things more lively." Something about this just says how she likes to troll, or just dislikes the Canterlot folk that much to attempt to "spice up" every Gala. But overall, I found it fine. Not as special as the others, but still good.
  8. I met my first brony while, of all places, collecting info and surveying at an amine cosplay festival. I felt super out of place with my RD shirt. I saw something familiar while walking round. Rainbow hair, blue clothes, none of my anime loving pals could tell me what that was. Le awkardness trying to work up the courage to talk to her.
  9. Twilight: My stress over studies.... Applejack: I hate letting anyone down. Fluttershy: I like being kind, and am rather soft spoken. RD: Adrenaline all the way. Rarity: Like being creative as some points in time. Pinkie Pie: Randomness.
  10. It was a good episode after all...... It really deals with a issue that has to be faced by all of us eventually in a very......non-stigmatised and overly-harsh manner. This I feel was the essence of the show, that made it magical for me, and its made me really, really happy that it came back to this style again. A parable and a lesson to be learned about an issue. The icing on the cake is that its an issue that I have historically had a massive problem dealing with. Also, this thing was flooded with meme-worthy material, and references to other pop culture just spilling out the top. Her angry face, the lemons Portal reference, and......winter...is...coming......oh man. Does not help with the (surprise, season 5 too) Game of Thrones. The song? Well, I am still listening to it now, and I finished watching the episode...um....30 minutes ago? yeah, 10 times non stop loop so far. Its...it fits Rainbow in its tone. Im no music student, but I just feel it does, and its really nice to listen to, one of those moderate songs these days, not the soft classical or the "electric fart" techno, but the perfect middle ground. Im tempted to say classic rock, but I might get blasted for my error by music masters, so I wont say so. That. Saroth. Comment of the day for me. It clicked, and its just a brilliant insight into what magic they weaved into the episode. It is the stages of grief.......... Damn. Downright brilliance right there.
  11. Well....my concept if rather different. For me I would give my life, as I feel that the fandom as a community has given me a second chance. A new life which is better and more cheerful. So I feel that it is not mine to keep. If I have to give it up to save others, or to maintain this ideal, then that is fine. So that it can continue to be the gift that keeps giving to others. And saving their lives in turn.
  12. Fandom Stuides! My favourite subject! Ive studied it for a long time too! good to see more studies on it! All the knowledge on these fascinating creations of the modern era! Oops...... I think I wrote too much on my survey. Its going to look like I wrote a research paper on the damn thing. Ah well too late. I clicked submit.
  13. Its an interesting debate, to say the least. But I feel that there should be multiple things taken into account. Whatever we all say, he does have some originals. Nothing to say about that, he has some artistic skill. But of course, morally its not right to profit from any form of copied work. Being an aspiring inventor, I know the anguish when somebody even minorly appears to take your idea, after you put so much effort into it. Its natural to become this paranoid over your work, but you also still need to take it into perspective. The definition for a new patent is something that is a creation that has a novel or new idea incorporated into it. It doesnt have to be spanking new like a hovercar or something like that. You could take the normal car, tweak it to improve it somehow, and that counts as a new idea and patent. The problem I see is that this is quite borderline. He is adapting the show's art into a different form, i.e products and comics, but he is rather blatantly taking from the show's artwork for his own use. It may be tweaking in some respects, and downright copying in others. Whatever you say, even cheats have to put effort into what they do. I also feel in this perspective that people are too unforgiving these days. Some people have to put up hard and sometimes dictator-like shells because of the prying eyes everywhere. Its too difficult. Someone notices something, and your whole world comes crumbling down. We are human, we all make mistakes, sometimes far larger ones than others. We cannot simply expect someone to be at perfect form all the time, it just doesnt work that way. We all have our flaws, and frankly, have to be overlooked once in a while. Of course, once your mistake passes the boundary between messup and loss of livelyhood, something has to be done about it. What I would say is appropriate is that he has to take down any artwork that is traced and used implicitly in the sale and profit of himself, as well as pay a fine baed off the sales he made for that. But I dont think taking him completely down is a fair consequence, and neither is the harsh comments, which seems to be everyone favourite weapon of choice these days. Even though they are words, we basically handed out BB guns to everyone on the internet, it just stings every bloody where. We should all lay off that. Also, its not drama in the fandom. Its the kind of drama everyone seems to like seeing these days. I can show you the papers in my home country, the national papers, its so full of this kind of crap every day. Just how people are these days I guess.
  14. My comments for each progressing episode this season....I cant even. Every single episode, I have the feeling that its a little like another movie or book or something. First the premere makes me think the writers have read Animal Farm from George Orwell. Well, maybe the 3rd episode didnt... But this feels like Edge of Tomorrow for some reason. Other than that, it was quite well done. A lot of feels too, it does link to a lot of our daily things we worry about sometimes, which I feel is the essence of why we watch MLP to begin with. Little parables to remind or show us how to handle things we face.
  15. Well, from what I think, diversity will inevitably generate conflict. Because the brony fandom is primarily based around accepting anyone from any background, it is probably one of the most diverse groups of people around. That is sometimes good, it does show unity across many borders, but in the end, some people just cant mix at all. Id really love for us all to be like the show we watch, to settle differences in opinion in a more peaceful manner, but until then, we unfortunately have to contend with a reality of the world, is that bullets will fly. It can be from simple arguments to full on fighting. Thankfully, and I hope im right, this fandom doesnt degrade itself to fisticuffs, even though we sometimes do come close, with venomous personal attacks with some other bronies who we dont agree with. At least we dont have maniacs running down the street yelling "Solar Empire forever" and killing a bunch of innocent people. Yea, I am lookin at you, religious fanatics. So thats a good thing, at the least. A little improvement.
  16. Im basically addicted to brony music. It forms the majority of songs that I listen to all day, every day. That and music from games and popular songs, is all I ever listen to in terms of music.
  17. Well, I do have a very simple view on this. A lot of society doesnt have the....the drive to be different anymore. People are willing to give up uniqueness just so they can be with the "in" crowd. Our world is just a messed up one. Its become easy to victimise those who try to be different simply because they dont follow along. Im here as I believe this is among the last bastions of the world where gentle and kind, yet daredevils, true daredevils reside. The rest of the world is dead to me. A lost cause. Just sheep following a cruel and morbid code.
  18. Id say about a 7. Like what Steel Accord said, I also do find it to be like a home to return to. Not that I obsess over it, spouting it wherever I go, but I know its still inside. When the day gets tiring, I just have to withdraw into my alcove of ponies (and increasingly these days, horses. took up horseriding). If I dont get to do so after a while, I do get irritable, so id say thats the addiction side.
  19. Sadly, its in human nature to generalise, and destroy things. Anything and everything can be used as an excuse, so long as there is a little nugget of truth behind it. It is true that bronies were heavy trolls back in 2010 (gosh I feel old), but that is the only nugget of truth trolls need to go about their business. And people do it cause they like it. There is a sadistic pleasure in all of us to wreck something. These people just.....got a little too much of the sadist added when they were born. Thus we should pay them no mind. Its inevitable through human nature.
  20. Id say it wouldnt really die, since we have each other. What really matters is the fact that the people around us are pals. Id say being a brony in this situation would be...kinda like one of those army unit patches. Like Ranger School or something. When it all ends and you go your separate ways, you forget what the people did to you in that time you were there. What you remember and take with you are the skills you learned and the people you met, and would probably stay with for a very long time. So in essence, a supposed "dying out" is like losing the patch. Sure, you might feel upset that this thing you worked so hard for is lost, but you should look up at the buddies you have from getting that patch. Some might simply forget everything after losing the patch, their memory of what they went through. It doesnt matter. Cause if you really did take something from the experience you had, then you wont need that to remember and to enjoy life. If you lose that dedication, lose that brony-ness as soon as something happens, then you never got anything, and you didnt deserve to be there to begin with. A waste of space. Link it back to the army tabs and patches. If the patch is the only thing that held any meaning from the experience of the training or combat, then you never deserved to have it to begin with. So just look up, since Im sure all of us here love being here. And in doing so, it wont die.
  21. Im guessing this is a standard response people have. When travelling into uncharted territory, you try to link it back to what you know, which is gender roles. So while it might not be that we are defying gender roles, it is a....best estimate at what we can describe such actions until we understand the situation better. Its in our psychological nature of building upon existing knowledge. Since in the modern world, a guy watching a girl's show was practically unheard of, it is unknown how we actually describe such an action. An analogy of this would be giving you an alien language to decipher. It uses symbols that no human culture ever used. It will be folly to try and leap straight into understanding the language. What a logical human would do is to bring in associations so they have a baseline for comparison. An example would be finding the symbol for "tree" and seeing how it matches to our language. So I would conclude that the line of defensive reasoning that the show is "manly" is simply an associative and protective measure.
  22. Woooow. So many Filipino bronies~ And FINALLY, some Asian bronies willing to transcend the border lines. I hail from Singapore, the little red dot~ And it seems more and more that there are bronies in Vancouver specifically. Hm...... I dont know that many active bronies in Singapore, but I tell you, pony toys are EVERYWHERE now here. Even in the convenience store in a train station I saw a plushie of Applejack being sold. So I swear there are tons of bronies here, just they arent willing to show their faces.....
