  1. I'm not gonna lie, that crap puts me off of the whole fandom for me, too. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid that crap a lot of the time, and just be around people who don't take it so seriously.
  2. When I was little, like 4 or 5, I listened to a lot of country, apparently. Up until I was about 13, I basically had no preference, I listened to anything, stuff my Mom liked (Classic rock- Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, etc.), stuff my sister liked (J-Pop, anime soundtracks, pop). I think there was a brief phase when I was 11 or 12 where I wanted to listen to rap a lot, but it didn't last long. I started to get into metal when I was 13 and I think the first metal band I liked was Metallica. They're still one of my favorites, especially their pre-Black Album stuff. After I left high school, I lost interest in music until about 3 years ago, when I got out the iPod I got for my 15th birthday that had been sitting for like 4-5 years. I've always preferred stuff from bands that got big in the 80s, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Dio, Ozzy, etc. but I've started to get more of it, albeit very slowly (I don't spend a lot of time looking for new music). I'm not as big on more modern stuff, and a lot of it has to do with me being picky about the vocals. If I don't like the singer's voice, then it's a no-go. Re-listening to some Rammstein songs I liked in high school got me interested in them again, and in German-language and foreign-language metal as a whole. As of late, my newest additions to my music library are a bit more... Russian. At some point I should probably get some more music in a language that I can actually understand. Maybe later.
  3. I'd probably go with St. Patrick's myself. I wouldn't really do anything for it unless it were on a Friday or Saturday. Although it's not like I do anything for Valentine's either, but at least you get candy on sale afterwards. Unless they also discount booze around St. Patrick's Day...
  4. I guess the best description of my high school friends would be stoners. I didn't do it myself then, but they were a great bunch (seriously, stoners are the most chill people, but of course they would be). I guess we would've been lumped in as goths, as well since we listened to metal and wore black a lot. I even had a pair of Tripp pants, those things were comfy as hell, and you could fit an entire two liter bottle in the pockets.
  5. Mine has an MG34 machine gun for a leg. So probably that. It's effectiveness is questionable considering that a horse's leg is not very well articulated, but it doesn't matter since mine is supposed to be stupid.
  6. -I'm clean-shaven -The last time I wore a fedora/trilby/whatever-the-hell-you-call-the-neckbeard-hat was 7 years ago, before it was frowned upon, and even then I only wore it with a suit -I almost never talk about the show, and in person I don't mention it unless they like it as well -I like G3 and G1. -I don't listen to the fandom's music -I don't read fanfiction
  7. I'm not entirely sure how lively this will be considering the majority of active members here are in high school/college, many of which will not be employed, but let's see where this goes. I haven't seen any thread for this sort of thing while searching, so this may be the first one. So let's share the funniest things you've had happen to you while at work. I'll start with two of my favorites so far. A bit of background here: I work in the engineering office of a machine shop as a drafter. It sounds professional, but trust me, it really isn't. It may be at other offices, but it sure as hell isn't where I work. My favorite so far happened back in September last year when one of the people at our German branch came over here to get some training in design and quoting. My shift leader was showing him something when out of nowhere a lady comes in holding up a card and and mumbling. Everyone in the office just sat there because no one had any idea what she was even saying. Eventually, she just walked out. My shift leader turned to the German guy and said, "and that, Lars, was a crackhead." (It wasn't much of a joke, either. I've had drug addicts ask me, my coworkers, and the people who work at the dollar store across the street for money.) More recently, I had been in touch with a sales rep in Russia about a print a customer had signed that may have been an earlier version that was made with incorrect information. I got an email back from him, but something was off. Normally, his English was fairly good, but this had some noticeable spelling and grammar errors. At first I was wondering what was going on, then I checked the world clock on my phone for the time zone around Moscow. It was 7:30PM when he sent it (it may have been later if he was farther east). That's when I started to put the pieces together. 1. Email filled with poor spelling and grammar 2. It's Friday night 3. He's Russian This dude was drunk. (In fairness, I probably would have done the same thing in his place. Actually last Friday, I did, but I wasn't doing anything in relation to work.)
  8. Holy crap, I remember that. It's been forever since I've seen one of his streams.
  9. I can't say I would. I like being a guy. Sure, it would be less weird to like girly things if I were actually a woman, and I wouldn't have to shave my face, but that's about it. Besides, the ability to pee while standing up really comes in handy.
  10. My name is Aria now. I now share a name with a purple horse woman... siren... whatever.
  11. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2g6jeg_an-accurate-recreation-of-the-development-process-of-equestria-girls-dolls_fun 5 seconds of video, half an hour spent trying to find two missing doll shoes and setting them back up on my shelf.
  12. It's quite obvious that they are human. Applejack has a New Jersey tan, Rainbow Dash has cyanosis, Twilight has even worse cyanosis, Pinkie Pie is perpetually sunburned, Rarity is an albino, and Fluttershy has jaundice from some kind of kidney problem, apparently. It's awfully insensitive of you to say they're not human for all having skin conditions. From the looks of it, Canterlot High and the surrounding community is for people with rare skin disorders.
  13. Gryaz' (Russian for 'dirt'). This would also make an excellent name for a metal band.
  14. Would that have been Newborn Cuties? Those are as painful to watch as Foodfight, but mercifully shorter.
  15. Seeing grown men obsessed with a little kids show and still act full of themselves is one of the most ironic things I've seen in my life. Anyway, with regards to the topic, I can't say it's that bad... yet. It's worse than it was before, but there's a lot of good in the fandom still here, it's just easy to forget about it when faced with all of the stupid crap about it. A lot of people here are normal people (or can at least pass for normal in public) that are here to share common interests and talk.
  16. Whether or not you thought it was good was irrelevant. I was pointing out that it wasn't stereotypically girly. It was for the most part an adventure series, not a tea party and dresses affair. That was G3's thing.
  17. As much as I like MLP, I don't really like to talk about it. Especially the show. I try and avoid the show discussion section as much as possible. There are few topics that I feel compelled to comment on there. I also don't talk about it in person, except for meetups, and even then not much.
  18. Well, a few of the shows would feature new ponies that came out. There were two different cartoons that introduced both pegasi and unicorns (G3 toys were mostly earth ponies) and pretty much every one you saw on screen you could find in the toy aisle. That and G3 ponyville was basically made out of playsets.
  19. I'm the same way. I love watching terrible movies and cartoons. Even before I started wanting G3 toys, I still liked the cartoons, even though they weren't very good. I can't bring myself to hate something so cute, even if there isn't much substance behind it. It's also fun to watch with friends and riff on it. I still remember some of the jokes we made when watching G3 and 3.5. The ironic thing about this is that the G3 cartoons do a better job of being a toy commercial than FiM, in a lot of ways.
  20. It does. You won't see many people from collector sites come onto a brony forum. G3 is more well received than G4 over there because G3 was a better toy line in a lot of ways. A lot of long-time MLP fans have stayed away from bronies just because of the attitude they have toward older gens. Would you want to be on a forum where all everyone did was pile crap on something you like?
  21. why does this fandom attract pompous blowhards who act like children's shows all have to be masterpieces of storytelling? Do you have any grasp of the concept of 'fun'? I didn't get into FiM for deep storytelling and character development. I watched it because it was cute and fun and made me laugh, with some nice action thrown in from time to time. If you take a show like this too seriously, you're missing the point.
