  1. So are they hoping to cross-pollinate (not the right wording but work with me here) between the two audiences? It seems like a bit of a long shot . . . I feel like they should be crossing them with older shows with dedicated audiences (like literally any other original show on their roster except Clarence). I just don't get it. (also, politely suggesting we decline to engage Sriracha? Dunno what they're up to, but it's the wrong thread anyway.)
  2. From what little I know of Uncle Grandpa, it seems like a strange decision. I wonder why they chose to crossover those particular shows . . .
  3. I thought that was because Ruby was used to having Future Sight while she was Garnet. On the other hand, we didn't see Sapphire use it either. Maybe neither of them have it--or they aren't able to use it very well while apart? Anybody seen the new episode yet? I'm glad they took a step back from the plot--the slice of life episodes are part of what makes SU great. And those two are so sweet together! Connie's right, Steven loves schmaltz. The room is interesting too--I forget, do the other Gems' rooms work the same way? Or was Rose the only one with the wish-fulfillment bed set?
  4. Parasites in general are pretty freaky, but mosquitoes are especially terrifying because they bite you all the fricking time but carry some of the most horrible diseases you're likely to catch (where I live, anyway), particularly West Nile and EEE.
  5. We've had some extreme Nor'Easters and hurricanes hit us a few times. The worst was a huge snowstorm that knocked out our power for a week. It got wicked cold, so we spent a several nights huddled in front of the fireplace for warmth. Every summer we also get an outbreak of EEE near us--the horses die first, but mosquitoes can spread it to humans. That one scares me, though West Nile is more common. I think the scariest incident was a tornado warning. It didn't do any damage, but it freaked my mom out 'cause she's a midwesterner and she knows what those things can do. We sat in our unfinished basement with the dog for close to an hour, waiting for it to pass. Not fun.
  6. Nope. Right now they're struggling to decide what to do with Spike, but writing him out would be admitting defeat. I think Spike could be a useful and interesting character, but they need to sit down and come up with a game plan for his development, rather than letting the writers run him in circles. He's younger than the Mane Six, a non-pony in an pony world, who has been friends with the Princess of Friendship all his life and much of hers. He potentially knows things about her that the rest of her friends don't. Yet somehow we know next to nothing about him. What does he do in his spare time? A bit of cooking, some mooning over Rarity, arguing with Owlicious. Surely that can't be all? What about aspirations? We know he sometimes fancies himself a knight, but does he genuinely dream of being something other than Twi's assistant? Maybe he decides to become the Royal Biographer, and comes into conflict with Twi because she keeps reading over his shoulder or editing his work. He also hasn't really formed a definite relationship with anyone but Twi and maybe Rarity. Spike at Your Service was a bit of a disaster, but only because it was so overdone and he felt somewhat OOC. It would be neat to see him hang out with the rest of the Mane Six/etc--perhaps he gets wrapped up in a prank war between Pinkie and Dash (and becomes completely overwhelmed), or helps Fluttershy cheer up a cranky Discord (and chews him out for his ingratitude, which actually helps). I think it would also be interesting to see him interact more with the CMC. He seems about their age, and with his own identity crisis could serve as a foil to them. Especially because he takes his responsibilities so seriously--maybe they could learn a thing or two about commitment. We've also never touched on his winglessness--maybe he and Scootaloo have something to talk about?
  7. My bet is on human!Twilight. She seemed quite ominous in that last cut . . . Perhaps the young scientist returns to Canterlot High while investigating the mysterious energy disturbances. The Humane Six have to stop her from finding out the truth and sharing it with the world. They can't let her do that for a number of reasons, but mostly because the human AU is full of banished Equestrian villains who don't yet know that her royal Highness has introduced Magic into their prison. After a long chase, Twi gets her data and is ready to publish when one of the Big Bads descends on the High School. The Humane Six go magical girl on its butt and hu!Twi, shocked but sensible, agrees to keep her discovery to herself. I feel like the next movie should be centered on another member of the Humane 6--the first one was Shimmer, the second was Dash. Maybe in this one AJ will lead by advocating honesty, insisting that if they just explain the situation human!Twi will back down.
  8. I mean, stereotypes in general tick me off. But the ones that annoy me on a daily basis include: A distressed woman is either on her period or hysterical A woman who cares about her appearance is vain / stupid Feminists are ugly, man-hating, hairy lesbians (none of which has anything to do with equal rights) Women who use up-speak or passive requests are somehow stupid or silly (it's how we're trained to speak and not everyone can shake it off, nor is it necessarily strategic to do so) A woman who does not want to get married/have kids will change her mind, and if she doesn't, she must be broken Young people are forgetting how to read / write / spell / think because TECHNOLOGY
  9. OK! Brainstorm time! I've been thinking about the powers exhibited by the Gems, trying to sort out universal abilities from ones peculiar to certain characters. I'm trying to find patterns that might give us more clues about how the Gems work. I definitely need help on this though--I'm sure I've missed things or misinterpreted them. Universal powers seem to include: shape-shifting, regeneration, defying gravity (hovering, walking on ceiling), fusion, immortality (apparently), weapon generation, "bubbling" Peculiar powers include: holograph production (Pearl) sand manipulation (Pearl) water manipulation (Lapis Lazuli) future sight (Sapphire, Garnet) spinning dash (Amethyst, Jasper) heat resistance (Garnet) healing (Rose Quartz/Steven) I'm also trying to group the weapons into "types", broadly speaking. Again, I'd love some help! appendage: Lapis Lazuli's wings, Peridot's fingers, Sapphire's hover-plate-thing? blunt instrument: Garnet's gauntlets, Jasper's helmet, Sugilite's flail cutting: Pearl's spear defensive: Rose/Steven's shield ranged: Opal's bow and arrow ???: Amethyst's whips I'd also love to hear ideas about what kind of powers/weapons Alexandrine, Malachite, and Ruby might have!
  10. Buh, school.

    1. Inky Well

      Inky Well

      Wanna to school!

Wanna do homework and sleep in class. =_=

  11. I think most teenagers are going through a lot, physically and emotionally, so I'm inclined to cut them some slack most of the time.
  12. Lars might live on his own, but I doubt it. While moderately competent (as seen on the island), he remains incredibly immature. His severe insecurity leads me to believe he'd likely be too embarrassed to be seen with his parent(s)/guardian(s). The idea that they're perpetually absent has some merit to it as well, though it isn't necessarily true. Another possibility, is that his parents are looked down on or ostracized by Beach City. Seeing how people treat his parent(s) might cause Lars's self-consciousness as he tries to avoid the same fate. Knowing the show's humor, I would not be at all surprised to learn that Sour Cream is Onion's brother. The pun is just too good to resist. While more independent than some characters, I don't see much reason to believe the DJ's living on his own either. And the Gems have ears. Onion's weird, but I'm sure we'd know if he had a Gem for a mother. First of all, the likelihood that another uncorrupted Gem remained on Earth for 5,000 years without Garnet ever picking her up with her Future Sight seems unlikely. That this Gem, probably from the anti-human side of the war (since she never tried to contact the Crystal Gems), would then decide to give up her life to produce a child with a human around the same time Rose had done the same . . . well, I find that very hard to believe. Whether or not Sour Cream and Onion are related, I don't think Onion's much more than a strange, slightly creepy little son of a fisherman.
  13. Maybe Mr. Smiley? Or he doesn't want to stand near them. He seems like the kind of kid who would want to avoid being seen with his parents. XP He doesn't seem old enough to live alone yet . . . all of his friends (and people he wishes he were friends with) still live at home. I kinda assume they're all in the 15-17 age range.
  14. Thanks for giving such a thoughtful and mature answer. There is hope for the Internet yet! And that is totally Sadie's mom! The family resemblance is striking--so adorable! I hope we get to meet her for real soon.
  15. There's always gonna be people who shit on the things others love. It sucks that some of these people are bronies, but there's just so many bronies that at least some of them are going to be dicks, statistically speaking. It's frustrating, but better to either ignore them or answer with humor/grace. If they go overboard, you can try reporting them. A little venting is OK, but there's no point in shouting about it. Tbh, it stresses me out. Can we just go back to being happy/emotionally traumatized about SU? I agree. There's some people complaining about how SU is part of a trend towards "darker" or "grittier" cartoons, but I disagree. I think it tackles relevant issues with surprising tact, while never losing its sense of humor. Kids need more shows like this, not fewer.
  16. Definitely not. My sisters and I had to share the TV, so I know the kind of negotiating that goes on just within the same gender or family. In the end, I think we ended up watching a lot of Animal Planet and Cartoon Network / Boomerang shows.
  17. Not an animation mistake--accidentally sticking a horn on a briefly-seen background pegasus is one thing, but that dude is front and center, the wings are animated (not just pasted to his side). I think they wanted to give Cadence's guards some semblance of symmetry, since the Princesses generally prefer matching sets of guards. I'm not sure whether the Crystal ponies are their own race, or simply exhibiting the effect of being inundated in the magic of love. Afterall, they "lost" their race when they lost their magic, appearing drab and relatively normal until the Heart was restored. I guess it comes down to your definition of "race", though. Within the logic of MLP, "race" seems to refer to a strain of ponies with race-specific physical and magical characteristics, and some history of separation. The CPs check one of three boxes for sure: "history of separation". We don't see positive proof of their glitter being inborn, and if they exhibit their own magical powers (like cloud walking, spell casting, etc) we don't get to witness it. Maybe they're an isolated population with peculiar physical traits, but I would not call them a unique "race". Nitpicking: Unicorns/Pegasus/Earth Ponies are subspecies. Unique species, by definition, cannot interbreed successfully (and we know they can thanks to the Cake's convoluted family tree). I agree that the Crystal ponies aren't on that level though.
  18. That actually makes a lot of sense about Rose--that Lion is the "leftover" half that didn't go into making Steven. I don't think Gems usually have familiars, because the Crystal Gems were completely flummoxed by Lion. If Gems regularly had familiars, then I'm sure they would have made that connection once they realized Lion belonged to Rose. As for reproduction--I don't think Gems reproduce sexually, at least not anymore. All human functions (like sleep, eating, etc.) appear foreign to them, and the fact that Rose created Steven seems particularly confusing to most of them (Garnet just rolls with it, but that's Garnet). It seems to me, that the Gems function as a "source code" for the Gems, as genetic material does for life on Earth. After all, the only way to permanently damage them is to damage their Gem, which then causes "errors" of various kinds (Lapis's malfunctioning recall, Amethyst's loss of form/speech, the monsters), much as mutations in genetic (or computer) code. Another look at the Kindergarten reveals another interesting clue--it it just me, or do those machines look phages? (FYI, Bacteriophages are a form of virus that inject their genetic material into a bacterial host, which then mistakes the material for its own and uses it to build new viruses.) Anyway, this resemblance makes me think that Gems reproduce by injecting their "code" into suitable mineral deposits. Once the Gem is formed, it can produce a body in the same way Pearl does after being "killed". That's probably why they need to colonize new planets too--they've run out of suitable material on their own planet and need to expand onto others with the right mineral makeup. Maybe at one point the Gems had a more "organic" method of reproduction related to fusion (perhaps the method Rose resorted to with Greg), but it looks like this got phased out in favor of the "Kindergarten"-method (possibly because their original mode of reproduction required the dissolution of one or more parents).
  19. Lol, I meant they could develop a series together, but that would be interesting . . . maybe they could have the Gems cameo as background ponies or something. A whole episode would just be pandering tho. X/ Anyway, they're on completely different networks so . . . Of course, that needn't stop the fanfic writers. XP
  20. Sure, but Faust's got 13 years on Sugar. 13 years ago, Faust had only just started writing for Powerpuff Girls. So I think it's a bit premature to say who's "won", even if it were a fight. (And honestly, why fight when they can fuse together and take on the world!)
  21. Imagine if they teamed up. o_O
  22. I like the idea, but it doesn't really do much more than give it a name. A "familiar" in the traditional sense is a witch's companion, usually an animal, sometimes described as a demon in disguise. So, unless the definition Connie gives is something more interesting . . . but it sounded as though she was describing the His Dark Materials series. They had "daemons", manifestations of their soul. If it is a hint, then maybe Lion is a manifestation of another aspect of the Rose Quartz Gem? Why Topaz, btw? If you don't mind me asking.
  23. So I was wondering whether anybody had designed pets for their ponysonas/OCs. After all, pets seem pretty vital to ponies--even Celestia has Philomena! If you've got the art done, post it! Also: Why did you choose that pet for them? And, if you've thought it out that far, how did they choose/meet their pet? Personally, my ponsyona Blue Skies has a crow named Lenore. I chose a crow, because they're sort of clownish, yet clever. They met when Lenore started stealing things from Skies--she would follow Skies everwhere and over time went from pest to pet. (I apologize in advance if this thread is misplaced!)
  24. Wait, is this an actual thing? Like, something that actually happens? Do they need a name if there's less than 5 of them? Maybe we should just call them the "hay schoolers". School bronies? School pegasisters? Idk.
  25. As someone else mentioned, it's probably intentional to create a uniform look. Applicants probably have to match a certain height and weight, then they trim and dye their coats and mane/tail to match. Or maybe they submit to a spell that alters their appearance? Either way, it might be partially symbolic of them sacrificing their individual identities/lives for the princesses. It does make me wonder whether there are guard families, kind of like there are military and police families IRL. Maybe some of the resemblance is familial. Also, did Shining Armor work his way up the ranks, or do unicorns from upper class families get made officers automatically (like they used to in European armies)?
