  1. It's true that Friendship is Magic was often a show where changes didn't impact the mane six's group dynamic at all - Rarity and Rainbow Dash both became celebrities with careers centred outside of Ponyville, and yet they stayed put. But change is change. In Equestria Girls, the distance could be much greater, but with the more advanced technology of that world I think the outcome could be basically the same.
  2. Plus, Equestria Girls has the internet, so it'll be even easier for them to keep in touch.
  3. I figure Twilight and Sunset would both go to some prestigious university to study science. Twilight will become a teacher, Sunset might work in research. Admittedly, Sunset became a little harder for me to understand as the series went on, but maybe she just has a bunch of hobbies. I think she would briefly be tempted to return to Equestria, but would stay in the human world unless dire circumstances forced her to leave. Rainbow will get a sports scholarship somewhere and then move on to the big leagues. Applejack will stay home and work on the farm. Not sure if she'll even pursue higher education. I can imagine Fluttershy studying to be a vet. I imagine her leaving for school and then returning to her hometown afterwards, but then again, that's not what happened in Friendship is Magic so who knows. Alternatively she gets a biology degree and works at a zoo or maybe a national park. I feel confident that Rarity and Pinkie Pie will move out to pursue education relevant to their career plans, but I'm not exactly sure what one does to become a dressmaker or a baker.
  4. I had always thought that the girls were unlikely to stick together after graduation unless they went out of their way to do so, and so it seems like a natural conclusion. I liked the Friendship is Magic episode because that's generally a good theme for a series finale, but it was never a foregone conclusion in that show, whereas I think it might be for the Equestria Girls characters.
  5. Although, I did forget about the whole magic leakage issue... maybe they could deal with that, and then cap it off with a couple shorts about graduation.
  6. It would have to be graduation. Nothing else fits. I've always thought it might be interesting to see something not unlike what we got in the Friendship is Magic - a story about the girls' various plans and ambitions pulling them in different directions, and their anxiety about keeping in touch after they're separated. In this case I'd say that some of them have gotten admitted to universities out of town, and maybe a few others have decided to just attend the local institution. Not sure I'd need 70 minutes to execute that; Friendship is Magic did a great job in under 30. But perhaps it could follow the girls as they try to create as many lasting memories as possible in their last few weeks. As an alternative, I guess you could also have a magical threat, which I think is what a lot of people would expect to close the show out. One idea is that another student is struggling with the same transition, and tries to use magic to stop it, so the girls need to confront their own fears to stop them. Another is introducing the human Sunset Shimmer, who would certainly challenge our Sunset's place in that world; I'm partial to the idea that human Sunset still acts like she did in the first movie, which could also lead to a magical threat.
  7. Fluttershy's friends really wish she would stop telling them disgusting animal facts.

Fluttershy: Echidnas have patches of skin that secrete milk instead of nipples! Isn’t that fascinating? :squee:

  8. Within that one episode? Probably just a few nice background elements; that's a tightly paced episode that I wouldn't want to bog down with extra info. I think it would have been nice to see what Flurry Heart is up to now that she's no longer a baby, and I'd like to know a little about Rarity's relationship status. I just can't imagine her being single. Might also have liked a cameo from some of the Pie sisters but that's just me.
  9. EQUESTRIA GIRLS REACT TO COVID-19 QUARANTINE:

    Twilight: overcompensating for lost productivity

    Applejack: games with the family!

    Rainbow: booooooored

    Rarity: Extremely Online

    Fluttershy: unusually comfortable

    Pinkie: complete meltdown

Sunset: vidya gamez all day all night

Surely she has animals at home. I can't imagine Fluttershy wouldn't have a pet.

Sure, but the wild animals at (say) her sanctuary are possible vectors. it is thought that, while originating in bats, the virus must have passed though at least one intermediatory animal as it has adopted genes from other viruses NOT found in bats.

(Pangolins are a strong suspect; those other genes ARE found in pangolin-specific retroviruses, and because trade in pangolins or their meat is illegal, if that WAS a vector, there would obviously be no records of the sale or origin)

For Influenza, pigs and chickens are common intermediatory hosts.

Look if we're getting into pony territory, then a lot of things are different. I don't think Fluttershy is dealing with any exotic animals in the Equestria Girls world, although she would be sad that she can't go to the pet shop or the zoo.

  10. The later seasons saw increased pretense of maturity alongside decreased consistency. This show changed a lot from year to year and never stopped offering great stories; I have my personal opinions about how effective certain developments were, but aside from those two factors I think specific qualities could waver over times. It's clear that the later seasons sought to be more mature in a number of ways, be it more sophisticated morals, increased worldbuilding and continuity, or even a heavier tone in parts. There are a lot of interesting things which happen in the later seasons which could not have happened in the first few, and it's impossible to deny that the show became a lot more ambitious. I would also argue, however, that these efforts were not accompanied by enough change in fundamentals - many writers got stuck on writing characters in ways that fit the morals, even if it doesn't align with more mature portrayals to be found in the same season. You could probably see this best in season 8, where you had episodes where we were supposed to believe characters are teachers even though their behaviour seemed highly inappropriate for people with that level of responsibility. And these were placed alongside episodes where those same characters appeared as mature authority figures. Because of this, I argue that the attempts to be more mature and ambitious in the later seasons, lacking a unifying vision, led to the show being more inconsistent as a whole.
  11. Why don't Flim and Flam work in marketing? It's clearly their true calling. They know exactly how to exploit ponies' natural gullibility. They even got Rarity for a moment! God, Neighsay is so horrible. This season didn't hold back with making him a racist jerk. I cannot believe Rarity would consider an eyepatch and a sticky note a sufficient disguise. Nothing she does in this episode makes sense. I guess her falling for the classes can be explained by how Flim and Flam have gamified it - which might even be a good idea - but like... she's a teacher at the rival school. Did she just sort of forget why she's here? Absurd. Does Twilight charge for classes? I guess she would have to if the textbooks are free but that seems non-ideal of her. This episode is funny and lightweight but uh, yeah, Twilight was definitely jealous and trying to undermine competition. If that wasn't the case, she wouldn't have been upset at the ad. At least she was willing to do the right thing at the end. Why did Cozy Glow give Flim and Flam the school curriculum? Very strange.
  12. How long were Trixie and Starlight singing? It seemed like they didn't stop through multiple very different environments. Even the bickering here is of a higher quality than usual, but at the same time it just gets so petty and so openly hostile that I kinda feel bad. Starlight and Trixie seem to have made little effort to coordinate this trip; from the very start they know there will be problems and then they just... don't address them. Starlight is aware of her snoring - shouldn't she have warned Trixie about it and brought earplugs? But I guess that's the point: they're so excited about going on a trip together that they ignore bad premonitions and fail to realise what an ordeal it will be. There are still parts of this I find a little tiresome but I still like it a lot. On the other hand, I'm not really bothered by the wagon trade anymore. Starlight was not in her right state of mind, even after getting a good night's sleep. It's an entirely different beast from Starlight's season 7 episodes; I feel like they finally figured out what to do with her this season. Shout out to Hoo'far too, who only offered to trade his wagon so Trixie would be more comfortable, and then deliberately avoided trading it to force Trixie and Starlight to repair their friendship. Is that pony who got stuck in the chest gonna make it home safely? I'm worried. I'm so glad that Trixie and Twilight made up. That cold open is still the cutest thing. I like it when the ponies are friends.
  13. Do the grannies really need to be babysat like this? They seem to imply that Applejack is overreacting. Maybe Rainbow should have just asked them about it; surely they know their own limitations. Can't imagine they would want to hurt themselves. I liked this one a bit less this time around, and that has to do with Rainbow's behaviour here. That she's overprotective is the point, but it doesn't seem like she really cares; every time she remembers Applejack's list, she also remembers that she might miss the roller coaster; she never puts any original thought into what might be best for the grannies. Even at the end, she says she's worried about missing the roller coaster but has little to say about the grannies' health. It makes her seem selfish, which worked fine in the earlier seasons but seems increasingly inappropriate as she's given more responsibilities. I find her hard to sympathise with or relate to in this episode, and she gets none of the good jokes. She's a drag, which is the point, but it's not much fun to watch. The grannies are still awesome, though; they should have had the spotlight. Also, they're wrong: the "fun one" is Pinkie Pie. Rainbow Dash is unreliable in that respect.
  14. All the stuff about Sugar Belle meeting Big Mac at the barn still sounds suggestive, even on the third viewing. Also, shout out to Big Mac boozing it up when he first mishears Sugar Belle. In the later seasons, Sugar Belle never had much going on other than being Big Mac's girlfriend; even Mudbriar had his literalism to set him apart. But she's adorable, and when the ponies are cute they must be good. Another shout out is needed to Discord for becoming a total nerd. LyraBon getting married later on made it impossible to deny that their relationship is canon, but this episode had already made it pretty clear. Their cameo clearly means only one thing; Hasbro made a big deal about Scootaloo's aunts being a couple, but LyraBon got there first. A part of me is still annoyed by the misunderstandings at the base of this, and I still cringe when Big Mac decides that he will break up with her first. At least in this case it's sort of justified by the fact that Big Mac doesn't like talking. And of course the FlutterCord hints get a hard nope from me, sorry. Otherwise I still find this one delightful.
  15. Flurry Heart will eventually be an adult, and may be trustworthy at that time. Discord has been around forever and shows little sign that he will stop being a menace. Not a difficult choice for me.

  17. yes, flutter horse is good horse. I think I liked her the most during the later seasons, when she was still kinda sensitive but stood up for herself a whole lot more.
  18. By the end of the show, I was sick to death of the big adventure episodes. Almost none of them are among my all-time favourites; I find them self-serious and predictable, which keeps them from being that entertaining to me. In the last few seasons I deeply wished they would just go away entirely, which was especially frustrating after "Best Gift Ever" showed what else could be done with those 45 minutes and "The Ending of the End" showed what all those two-parters should have been like. I don't agree at all that the show's strengths lie with the fantasy adventure stuff, and at a certain point I stopped paying attention. I find the mundane episodes to be relatable in a way that the epic adventure episodes aren't, and they're often more imaginative and humorous to boot. More importantly, they tend to be far more personal to the characters. But then again, I didn't really like the later seasons of the show either, particularly the last three, which I don't think would be very good even if they made no pretense of continuity. I think what I wanted by the end was a sitcom about the mane six's careers, which of course would never happen in a kids' cartoon - but I tried to take it for what it is, rather than what it sometimes pretends to be, and it still left me wanting.
  19. Yeah, that's pretty much how it is in this show. The villains think they're better than everyone else and so it's inevitable that they'll fall to the power of friendship. I kinda wish the show hadn't aimed for suspense in those two-part episodes, to be honest; I always find them too predictable to be exciting. Like, the more incompetent Chrysalis became, the more I liked her, because at some point the show wasn't even trying to portray her as a threat and just let her be silly. That said, I do think there are some exceptions: Not sure what you mean by "destroy" in this case. If you mean "kill," you should just say that, because Discord kinda did stop them - he turned them all against each other, inverted their personalities, and basically got them all to quit trying to stop him. He was stopped because Celestia started sending back all of Twilight's friendship reports, and he probably didn't deal with her right away because she wasn't the one with the Elements of Harmony. Tirek faced basically no serious opposition until Twilight, who he fought to a standstill and then absorbed all the alicorn magic from. How was he supposed to know about that one box with the rainbow power inside it? We never even learned what that was supposed to be.
  20. Discord lol Starlight and Trixie both seem kinda sketchy so I dunno about them either.
  21. uhhhhhhhh Twilight Sparkle Rainbow Dash Rarity Fluttershy Pinkie Pie Applejack I guess. These are my favourite characters in the show.

I did find some of them kinda annoying, mostly because they're really noisy. I like the innocent tone but don't really like how all of the ponies act like little kids, and those two qualities basically cancel each other out for me. I'd say they're all fairly predictable but they're also mostly pleasant. I really liked the one where Pinkie did magic.

  24. Shout out to Gallus calling Ocellus a nerd. Is she the Twilight of the group? What does that make the others? Then again, her shyness is more like Fluttershy... Sandbar is a real square. He never quite became interesting on his own the way all of the others did. That said, the idea of Hearth's Warming dolls is adorable. Really? The yaks don't smash the moss at all? Not even a little bit? I mean, that's fine, it's really cute that they dress it up as a holiday symbol, but it sure does look very smashable. Anyway, yaks are best non-ponies. Also, Silverstream's attempt to smash a bucket is adorable. Dragon holidays probably are about arguing, aren't they. Also, shout out to Smolder almost not caring at the end. What, did she have anything better to do? It didn't seem like she was that invested in the dragon holiday. The mane six fit in really well as adult authority figures, to the extent that I wish this show could have told their focus episodes from that perspective instead of having them regress in bizarre ways. I think "The Washouts" was the only episode to really double down on that, though "Horse Play" finds a really nice balance. This season is just so... blunt. In the past the show would dance around darker ideas like this, but here we are, in season 8, with a character just outright saying "I don't have a family." Even in "The Perfect Pear," nobody says out loud that the Apple parents are gone. In many ways, season 8 was worse than the show had ever been before - but in moments like this, it was also much better.
