So I finished reading Triptych by Estee! Non-spoiler opinions below:
SpoilerEstee has a rich, beautiful writing style. I’ve read many stories in this alternate universe—the Triptych Continuum—so I’m familiar with it. Amazing worldbuilding, dialogue, language—however, it can be easy to get bogged down, especially in the dense early chapters. Because there’s a lot of description. And, especially in the first half of the story, a lot of (at times) unnecessary vagueness. I don’t think the main antagonist’s name should be concealed for so long when it isn’t even a name the reader knows.
Anyway. Triptych is an epic tale of adventure and mystery, following Twilight and her friends as their attempts to help a pony in pain lead them to a conspiracy of dangerous proportions. Something small I enjoyed, aside from the plot and character growth, was that each of the Mane Six and Spike was important in a natural way. They aren’t forced into usefulness, but they aren’t useless, and each character has a unique importance. And I love how they interact with each other.
I don’t read long fanfiction a lot, but this was an enjoyable read. (Even though I want to complain about a detail of the ending.) Anyway, if you have patience for vague internal monologues from unnamed characters, I suggest you check it out.
