  1. Or better yet, can they survive on their love for one another? This is the problem: we know so little of the Changelings that I suppose my question becomes almost impossible to answer definitively. I would just like to believe 'Yes' because of how this is a show with a heavy theme on love and tolerance and this would be the best example.
  2. Meaning the Changeling Homeland, unlike the conquered kingdom in the comics. I like to see them as Imperial Japan, though I somewhat see them now as a Hunnic nomadic people
  3. I think I pretty much only thought of this last night. In my headcanon, I see the Changelings as a kind of Far East people like the Japanese, but I just thought of something: A viewer/reader's knowledge of the Changelings is limited, but let's look at what we've got: *They're obviously a warrior species bent on attacking, conquering or just pillaging cities, villages and entire kingdoms for their own needs. *Although not outright confirmed, they appear to be nomadic. We do not yet know if there IS a Changeling homeland as such, so for the time being they appear to be nomads. These guys are reminding me of the Huns! I'm just starting to think of the Huns when I think of them, when usually my headcanon of the Changelings is of Imperial Japan (though I've probably played too much Call of Duty). Chrysalis: How many ponies does it take to deliver a message? Changeling archer: (taking aim) One...
  4. Actually, that was not stated outright that they have no kingdom. Yes, they conquered that kingdom, but that was Chrysalis and her ARMY not the whole species of Changelings. It comes across more of an imperial colony than the homeland, which may be where Chrysalis returns to once defeated. The truth is, we don't know yet until issue 4 is released.
  5. I suppose, I can understand that is what most may go far until proven different. Well then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, until the series addresses the issue if ever in season 4.
  6. Again with the hive thing... why is it always a hive? Where's the solid evidence of that? Why can't they have their own kingdom and culture? I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. But say if Chrysalis was replaced as leader, with someone more peaceful and less aggressive? Would it be possible then?
  7. This is a straightforward question: Do you believe it is possible, even remotely so that there is a chance for a peaceful relations between Equestria and the Changeling Kingdom? They do not have to be the best of allies, barely any real life country is with another. I mean, could they ever be in a position where they DON'T wish to beat each other's brains out? Is peace realistically possible between the two nations and people? The way I see it, there are many requirements for a peace between, but an absolute for me is that Chrysalis cannot be Queen for a peace to work. She was the aggressor and actively headed the invasion and attempted regicide and homicide. She is a war criminal that must be removed from power (bonus if it's by her own people) and be tried
  8. I did not mean it like that. It's just that when I think of griffins, I just imagine them as something like and old 19th century European military power, like Imperial Germany or the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It's just the thing that comes to my mind.
  9. But I just HATE the hive idea, because I like to see changelings as individuals with their own family, children and friends. The Hive idea really limits that.
  10. I often like to draw similarities from the different species in the show, pony, changeling, griffin, etc, to real life nations and cultures. For example, I often think of Equestria as similar to North America and Western Europe in terms of its culture (the names and architecture) and its very European traditional monarchy. The Griffins I kind of see as Germans and Austrians, for some reason. I dunno, I can just imagine them speaking in very thick German accents and being very military. Then again, we had Gustav speaking a very french accent and Gilda American, but I still see a very pan-European influence in their culture. As for Changelings, yeah, we know very little about them and if you'd just humour and NOT go for the ever so popular but seriously worn Hive idea, I have a particular vision of their culture. I see them as possibly being East Asian, chiefly because of how much it would then contrast to the Equestrians' very western culture. I really am split between seeing them as Japanese (as I have them in my fanfics) or perhaps more appropriately, the Huns or the Mongols (the latter of the Gengis Khan variety). Changeling Kingdom Other official names: Its true name is difficult to translate into other languages from Changeling language. Often referred to as 'the Motherland' by most Changelings. Capital: Again, difficult to translate into other languages from Changeling language. Language(s): Official: Changeling. Second language: Man language (English). Religion: Official: uniformly traditional Changeling religion. Ethnic Groups: 99% Changeling, 1% miscellaneous (Pony, troll, etc) Culture: Imperial Japan. Type of Government: Absolute monarchy by divine right. Legislature: None. Military: I can definitely imagine the Changeling army similar to Imperial Japan's, all in terms of its large size, its unyielding brute force and strict "no surrender" policy. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSM55qjh99E] Formation: Dates back over thousand years. Area: It is a vast, depleted country, characterized by a desolate mountainous landscape which, during its infamously long, vicious winters, is always blanketed by thick layers of snow. It is estimated to be four times the size of Equestria, due to covering vast areas that include plains, deserts and even glaciers. Population: 140,000,000 Currency: Changeling Yen What say you?
  11. I really, REALLY want there to be an exploration into other countries in Season 4, namely the Changeling and Griffin Kingdoms. I'd love for Changelings to appear again, especially if the episode will be based on the improving on foreign relations, bringing about peace. Sorry, but if Celestia is so willing to give Discord a second chance, then her willing to repair relations with Changelings is not in the realm of the impossible. I can imagine an episode based on an early episode of Young Justice, where like the North and South Korea based countries, the Changeling Kingdom and Equestria's leaders gather at a peace summit to try and work out peace, with who else being the arbitrator (in Young Justice, Lex Luthor) than Discord. Or alternatively, the episode could focus around racism/speciesm. Whilst it is true that in season 2, we had an episode based around racism, the 'Hearth's Warming Eve' episode between the different races of pony. However, what the show could then do is take it to a new level and actually deal with relations with an entirely different species. As far as we've seen, a lot of species we've seen outside of ponies are EVIIIL, be they dragons (with the only real notable exception being Spike), diamond dogs, or changelings. It would do a world of good if the show dedicated an episode to how some, or better yet, many members of these 'EVIIIL' species are actually good people and are not uniformly bad. True, some species are kind of set up to come across as evil, but one of the big messages of this show is on love and tolerance, so one of the best examples of that is having the Mane Six realize that 'hey, maybe it's wrong to write off every single one of these guys we hardly know as an 'evil jerk'. They are people, with lives and their own family and loved ones and are, in many ways, like us'. The species that this could very well be done with is the Changelings, mostly because they are the species that are most set up as uniformly evil and thus would make it more interesting and compelling than say, the Diamond Dogs. • It also allows the Mane Six to be portrayed as more sympathetic in their distrust and NOT as blind, ignorant bigots as is the case in many fanfictions on this issue, because unlike the incident with Zecora (which was not them being speciesist per say, more fear of the unknown), which was based more on ignorance than hatred, they have more of a founded reason to see all Changelings as the enemy; an army of them, led by their Queen, invaded their country! Unlike Zecora and the different races of pony, there is a solid reason for which they are actively expected to not like Changelings. It does not justify their prejudice entirely, but it makes the audience sympathies and understand them more. No one side is entirely in the wrong. • The Mane Six, in the end, would come to understand that Chrysalis' army is not representative of every single Changeling and that it is wrong to paint all Changelings as their 'enemy'. That they are people, with lives and their own family and loved ones (on a side note, this is why I do not support the hive-mind idea that some fans endorse, because it mostly takes away the opportunity to show Changelings as individual characters). They (the Changelings) are like them (the Mane Six and ponies in general) in many ways. • Their kingdom and culture and society could be revealed to based off that of similarities to Oriental cultures, like Japan and Korea, the rationale for this mainly how Chrysalis' designer, Rebecca Dart was inspired by the work of manga artists Junko Mizuno and Hideshi Hino. Therefore, if we see the Changeling Kingdom in the show it can potentially enable the show writers and animators to explore some East Asian art, architecture and culture. And picture this: Changeling Samurais! • It has many ways in which the episode could be played out: o The Mane Six are stranded in an isolated area with a group or family of Changelings. o The Mane Six find themselves trapped in the Changeling Kingdom and disguise themselves/They are sent to the Changeling Kingdom as spies and go undercover. Either way, they then get an understanding of what the Changelings' lives are like, and how privileged ponies are in Equestria in comparison to a Changeling's daily hardship and squalor. o The familiar scenario of them finding a Changeling baby and have to return it to its family, as examined in detail below. The twist? It's Chrysalis baby! How're they gonna get themselves out of that one, especially as Chrysalis believes they kidnapped her baby? o Equestria and the Changeling Kingdom go to, or are at the brink of war. This sort of thing relates to real life in ways a lot of us may not realize. We often associate entire certain nationalities or groups of people as our enemies because of what their leaders (past or present), ancestors or a select minority of them have done, when in reality, many of them have done nothing to antagonize us and could otherwise be our friends. Just to expand on the lost Changeling baby idea: The Mane Six and Spike come across a lost Changeling baby, or larva, and have to go on a journey to return it to its family. Whilst, like I said, this has been done before, MLP does have a way of doing different takes on these familiar plots. The reasons this troper would like this kind of episode, for MLP specifically are: It allows for serious potential world-building, potentially a Changeling Kingdom. Their kingdom and culture and society could be revealed to based off that of similarities to Oriental cultures, like Japan and Korea, the rationale for this mainly how Chrysalis' designer, Rebecca Dart was inspired by the work of manga artists Junko Mizuno and Hideshi Hino. Therefore, if we see the Changeling Kingdom in the show it can potentially enable the show writers and animators to explore some East Asian art, architecture and culture. The Mane Six and Spike are forced to confront their own perceptions/distrust of Changelings as their enemies, especially in what they're doing. The typical things would include, "the bitter truth is that this child is going to grow up one day and be our enemy", "Is it then worth all this trouble to bring this child back?", "It's not like we're going to get a "thanks" when we return it", "Are all Changelings really automatically our enemies?", etc. We get to see the Mane Six's potential maternal side. Imagine RD's heart eventually melting, despite her resistance, with the little baby. A baby Changeling. I mean, imagine how cute it'll look. It could even lead up to mindblowing twist; It's Chrysalis's baby! Imagine the look on their faces when they find out they've got the Prince or Princess of the Changelings. And how're they gonna get themselves out of that one, especially as Chrysalis will most likely believe they kidnapped her baby? Not only that, one wonders if she'd be physically able to express gratitude for them returning her baby to her once the misunderstanding is cleared up

  15. Twilight, my favourite pony? Or Finn and Jake, my favourite comedic adventure duo? ... DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE! DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE! DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOSE!
  16. One idea I'd like to see is Queen Chrysalis and her child/children (and by that no, I do not mean all changelings and as I do not agree with that fan interpretation). I assume that unlike Celestia and Luna, she is not immortal and passes the throne to her descendants. I'd like to see what her son/daughter looks and acts like and how they could be involved in the episode: I was thinking that in order to improve relations, the royal brat is sent as an exchange student to Equestria where s/he is under the Mane Six's charge, with Chrysalis giving this "sweet, gentle" warning: "If anything ever happened to her, heh heh, and I mean if even the slightest hair on her head is hurt, heh heh heh heh heh heh (continues to laugh eerily creepily, before scowling and hissing) NOPONY WILL BE HAPPY!! (smiles once again and leaves) Ta!"
  17. A good theory but the way I see it is that the switching causes a different timeline and only Twilight is aware of the old one existing.
  18. They weren't banished there per say, as I am assuming they have their own homeland. The force blast sent them flying in that direction.
  19. I cannot stand the way Equestria itself is portrayed in the fanon. Equestria, as we know, is supposed to be a land of peace, love and harmony, a near enough utopia ruled over by the benevolent Princesses Celestia and Luna. However, from what I've seen in a LOT of fanwork and what seems to be accepted in the fanon is Equestria being portrayed as this one of the following, if not all: Cruel, Authoritarian and Racist/Speciesist. CRUEL A lot of fans believe Equestria is rampant with bullies and cruelty, including family. A lot of fans seem to believe that when Twilight was growing up studying under Celestia, she was constantly bullied by the other students or other upper-class fillies; Rainbow Dash, whenever she's portrayed as a lesbian, is constantly discriminated against, being called a 'filly fooler'; that Derpy has been bullied as a filly and even as an ADULT by almost EVERY SINGLE pony in Ponyville supposedly for being different (to a lot of people it would seem, being ditzy is equivelent to being mentally retarded, she is the former. People, it would seem, assume the later in an attempt to woobify her as much they can); that Fluttershy had violently abusive parents, the list goes on. Now yes, there is some bullying in Equestria, we've seen it with Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, the jock Pegasi, etc, but even so, it's shown to not be the norm or seen as acceptable, and what's more, it's never gone to the extreme levels as it has in the human world or in the fanfiction. It's pretty much entirely just name-calling and teasing by KIDS, who are known for being little jerks and having little empathy, pony OR human. Ponies, as a whole, are shown to be loving and accepting of each other, and I do take this as a fact. AUTHORITARIAN Okay, we all know where this is going, so I’ll keep this brief. Princess Celestia has time and time again been thought of by the fandom as this evil tyrant, when it’s been proven time and time again that this is simply not the case. I mean, how many times has it been argued how she banished Luna (Nightmare Moon at the time) because she HAD to, or how she didn’t believe Twilight in ‘Canterlot Wedding’ because she was genuinely fooled? The last one shows how she has flaws like other ponies, but apparently to viewers that is just as bad as showing her as absolutely perfect. She can’t get a break no matter what she does; she even gets guff for turning Discord to stone! Celestia, by definition, is a dictator, but so were a lot of old European monarchs who are looked upon favourably, and what’s more, she’s a BENEVOLENT dictator. She cares about all her subjects like they were her children, Twilight especially. I don’t know what the real basis on the ‘trollestia’ or ‘tyrant Celestia’ lies, but it’s seriously got old and fast, and it seems a lot of people are acknowledging it and letting it die. Only time will tell. RACIST/SPECIESTIST Now this is my biggest problem with the way Equestria is portrayed in fanwork. It’s not as common as with the bullying or authoritarianism, but whenever it does appear, it just infuriates me. Be it with Zebras, Griffins or most commonly Changelings, there are fanworks which portray ponies as a rule as blind, fiery-eyed racist/speciesist bigots. Again, I just want to emphasis this is not the most common element, but in those cases, it’s almost always played up to eleven; I’m talking lynch mobs, executions and pogroms. The species that this is almost always done with is the Changelings. Anyone who knows me on here knows that I have done a lot of discussion on Changelings and their relation with ponies, but as much as I like them, I am simply sick to death of the way they have increasingly been victimized and woobified in fanwork and at the same time, the ponies utterly vilified simply for defending themselves against an invasion. If you want my detailed opinion on the Changeling-Pony issue, here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/31266-can-the-changelings-be-justified-for-their-actions-or-not/ , http://mlpforums.com/topic/29534-speciesism-episode-for-season-3/ ,http://mlpforums.com/topic/35967-the-nationality-basis-of-changelings/#entry848925 , http://mlpforums.com/topic/25015-cold-war-scenario-equestria-vs-changeling-kingdom-s3/ but what I’m getting at here is that wherever there is a fanwork that tries to portray the Changelings in a good or sympathetic, in said works the ponies are almost automatically portrayed as the ones in the wrong. Using the aftermath of the Changeling invasion as a basis, the ponies become the most hate filled creatures possible in these works, going as far as instigating a genocide like that in 1990s Balkans against Changelings with CELESTIA of all ponies openly backing or supporting it, again, part of the whole tyrant Celestia schtick, pretty much putting here on line with certain historical figures and warlords I don’t think need to be referenced by name here. If we’re talking realistic, then yes, I can perfectly imagine the ponies of Equestria not being the Changelings’ biggest fans after the invasion, but guess what, that’s entirely natural and justified! The Changelings INVADED their country with every intention of sucking them dry! Of course the ponies are going to be a little peeved. The fanworks really seem to drive home that apparently it’s abhorrent for the ponies to even be the slightest bit resentful on the matter, and show them as the complete opposite of why the Changelings invaded their country in the first place. I mean, these are the ponies of Equestria for goodness sake; kindness, tolerance and love are their whole deal. If it were ever brought up in the show, the most it would realistically be shown as is a justified general distrust that would be resolved within a few episodes. Zebras and Griffins are not as tackled in this issue as much as Changelings, due to less justification canon-wise, but there are still a few. I mean, in the first Zecora episode, it wasn’t even racism/speciesism; they were weary of Zecora because they had never met a Zebra before and unaware of her customs; they weren’t trying to lynch or burn her at the stake simply for being a Zebra, for crying out loud! OVERALL I just don’t get where this dour, horrible portrayal of Equestria in fanworks originates from. I mean, it’s kind of par for course like with the portrayal of other peaceful worlds in their respective fanworks, but what’s the source? A theory on tvtropes which I find myself agreeing with is that many of the writers or creators of these works are portraying their experiences in the world onto Equestria, which is quite plausible and saddening. My main issue is just how people become so used to this portrayal of Equestria in the fandom that some lose sight of what it truly is. Equestria should not be 100% perfect and peaceful, that'd be boring, but then some fans see the remedy to that being to make it the absolute extreme opposite. I doubt this portrayal is ever going to completely cease, but that doesn’t change the fact how irritating it’s become by its commonplaceness and acceptance. I just want to remind everyone here of the quote above by Queen Chrysalis,"Equestria has more love than any place I've ever encountered." Let’s really think about that; why else would Chrysalis declare war and invade Equestria for its love, unless there was a whole lot of love there in the first place? That line alone pretty much emphasizes what Equestira is; a harmonious land, free from many of the vices of our own world.
  20. Well, first off, it wasn't a party but to welcome the games inspector, but getting to the reason he wasn't invited... there really is no real in-universe reason. The writers just did it because it was a clever reason to have the Mane Six out of the episode so Spike could be in a position to take care of the pets and conveniently tie the two episodes together.
  21. Well, I'd say there is definitely some insectoid in there, but they are still primarily equines. I think most fans put too much emphasis on the insect part.
  23. They probably did not bother to put him in because of his lack of importance as a minor character. He was only really meant to be for Rarity's story arch in the first season.
  24. Well, I never once considered Chrysalis being redeemed. That to me is way beyond possible. My main concern though is her peoples' relation with the ponies and if that could ever be improved. Now you say they are parasitic by nature which does have some evidence, but our limited knowledge of the Changelings does leave some benefit of the doubt. I doubt ponies and changelings can ever totally live in peace. The best they could hope for is an agreement to leave each other alone.
  25. A lot of you are saying Changelings cannot be redeemed. That seems to insinuate that all Changelings are, by a rule, which I disagree though I may be in a slim minority in that. My main point was how their relation with ponies could be improved, which I do think is possible, even if it just means all they agree to do is to leave each other alone.
