The best I've had — definitely Wendy's fries. Runner-ups: In-n-Out (haven't been in a while), Foster Freeze (that used to be me and my friends' hangout¹) and Jack in the Box.

It's probably only the places I've been to, but McD's fries come out the kitchen kind of limp/mushy and that takes away from it a bit — my friends had a good fix for this: ask for no-salt fries → cooks make fresh fries (better quality) → then get salt packets and salt to taste = fresh fries that were indeed awesome. McD used to me one of my fav places to go.

Gosh, I hardly ever eat fast food, ever. However, I remember that I like Burger King fries and Arby's curly fries. If McDonald's fries are really that good, then I should go over there just to try the fries.

Nothing can top McDonald's chips. They put the right amount of salt on them, I like the way they're thin and floppy and they're always received to me at the right temperature (not to hot and not to cold). These are so much better than McCain's chips. Look how short and fat these chips are!:

I don't know if it counts as fast-food, but Five Guys Cajun fries are seriously good and you get a crapton of them. If we're talking stores with drive thrus, I'd go with either Hardees or Chick-Fil-A.

There's this one small franchise named Simon's around where I live.  They use old bay seasoning on their fries along with salt which just makes them taste positively divine, I have yet to try their different variants of poutine though.

I don't live in California, but In n Out Burger has really good french fries. I always have to go there when I visit. 

 

Wendy's also has really good fries now too, and Arby's curly fries are delicious. Burger King, in my opinion. has the worst fries ever.
