Can you drive a manual transmission (stick shift)

can I just say that I find it super weird that manual is alien to a lot of you.

I cant stand driving automatic. the gear stick doesnt go were I want it to!! where did 4th and 5th gear go???? WTF WHERES THE CLUTCH?!?!

The standard over here in the UK is manual. everyone knows how to drive a manual car. Its forced on you in driving lessons.

its just a very good thing to know how to do since its just easier and cheaper to buy older cars or if you want a classic car youre not gonna find an automatic one!

Not very well. The only vehicle I could practice with was my mother's Ford F-150. I hated it tho. The clutch pedal was hard to press and the engine would stall easily if I didn't give it enough gas.

Strangely, I've had no issues whatsoever with manual transmissions in the forklifts I've driven over the years.

This might surprise you.....but nope, I cannot drive manual. I never had a manual transmission vehicle, let alone anyone to teach me. My dad always said he was gonna but never got around to it because he's always away at work. I'll learn someday......

I'll teach you! I've been thinking about putting one in my new car.

YOU KEEP SAYING THAT BUT IT NEVER HAPPENS WHAT THE FRIK BOY

I notice a slight tone shift. I mean gear shift.

My scooter is automatic. But my previous moped was manual, and there is something about having control of the acceleration, which is a priceless feeling!

Well none of the manuals I have right now are fit to drive a 1000 miles in a day girl.

I still can't but I'd actually like to learn someday, especially if I get a car when I move to Europe (as they're almost all manuals, though we'd like an electric car so we'll see). I'll always prefer public transit over driving though, but it would be pretty cool to know how to do it. Maybe I'll make my boyfriend rent a car and teach me when I'm over there with him :P

Wouldn't have it any other way, driving a manual feels right and it is fun shifting also the feeling of getting into a new gear you know. That and I simply prefer it, I've driven manuals and automatics sure I enjoy driving an automatic especially if it's a truck. Mostly though I prefer cars being manual due to being more engaging while driving. Lot of cars today offer automatics with manual shifting options some of which are very nice. Yet I still always prefer the classic manual you know.

In theory, yes. I know how to ride a manual motorcycle. A manual car is the same concept, just with different muscle memory.

Last I tried I about destroyed the clutch.

It would help if we actually saw the gear box in action while working the clutch. It seems like you have to guess how gently you are to the gears otherwise.
