Some of them would be:

• Seven Piece of Chalk by Lady Charity even though it's an Hetalia fanfiction, had me regretting that I just read fast paced through it, since the quotes and the ending was heartbreaking. 
• Grow Together by Miss Scarlett 05, fanfiction about Katniss and Peeta growing together again after the rebellion and all that stuff, pretty good.

I've only just started getting into the fanfiction, so I have a lot of catching up to do. However, the one that is currently blowing me away, despite its sad subject matter, is "Why Am I Crying". (Long synopsis short: The Cutie Mark Crusaders react to the sudden death of Diamond Tiara.) Unfortunately, it's not yet complete, so I'm hanging on the edge of my monitor waiting for it.

 

(It is more than adequate that I know stories like Cupcakes and Cheerilee's Garden exist, and I really don't want to read them.)

"The Public Life of Sweetie Belle" by Bronywriter was a good read to me, it's a sequel to "The Secret Life of Rarity" which was just too gorefest for me to handle.  Luckily the sequel focuses more on how Rarity's actions affected her sister's view by society instead of stabbing people.

My personal favorite is University Days, a Vinyl/Octavia romance fic by DawnFade.

But I'd really like to talk about my least favorite: My Little Dashie by Robcakeran53. I'm sure many of you have heard of it.

Yes, this is perhaps the greatest success in the mlp sadfic world; but that's its problem; it's too sad. I'm not the most sensitive person, but I was seriously emotionally hurt by this fic for like a week. It just made me feel horrible, and I couldn't focus on anything (and, of course, I cried about it for like a week too :3). I think there should be some kind of warning on sadfics like this one so inexperienced readers don't make the same mistake I did by blindly reading it without much context.

How could you like Cupcakes????? I've read it and saw the animated version. I had nightmares for three days. In my nightmare I watched helplessly from Rainbow Dash's point of view terrified. As I died I woke up in cold sweat.

So far, I'm reading a King of the Hill x MLP crossover called I Killed Fitty Men, Not Ponies. It's a story where Cotton Hill ends up in Equestria after he dies, as a pony. Will the ponies help him find redemption? Will he be driven insane by the very things he hates (colorful, girly, cute things)? One thing is for sure, I can't wait to read more of this fanfic

For any King of the Hill fans, I found a fanfic called "I Killed Fitty Men, Not Ponies". In this fanfic, after Cotton Hill died, he ends up in Heaven, where God tells him he'll send him to a world where he can possibly be reformed, which turns out to be Equestria. I only read the first couple chapters so far, but so far, the author has kept Cotton Hill pretty believable.

I read the Fan fic called "Gutterloo" and I got to tell you that fan fic made my cry....HARD, it was SO sad seeing scoots treated the way she was, also anypony here may want to check out the "Night that Never Ended" kind of a grim dark fan fic but not to bad, plus it has great character writing and AWESOME action!

Since I have not read many fanfictions (I've been a brony for only two months), I'll just list all of them that I've read.

• My Little Dashie: The fanfic that needs no introduction.  I thought it was sad (don't we all?), and although I didn't cry, I don't like sad stories. 3/10
• The Eagle Has Landed/The Eagle Is Sealed/Splashdown: When Apollo 11 goes to the moon, they discover Luna.  It's incomplete, but its alright. 7/10
• Arrow 18 Mission Logs: HIE fiction where a lone survivor of a space voyage encounters Equestria.  Not complete, but pretty good. 8/10

I've started a couple of others, but they didn't seem too interesting.  All of these fanfictions have failed to impress me (and for some reason, two of them involve space).

 

I have been trying to find a really good fanfiction for a while, but to no avail.  I'm looking for an adventure-y fanfiction that isn't too sad or clopfiction.  I'd prefer that it isn't over 150K words, but if it's really good, anything is fine.  I wouldn't want anything that's a spinoff of some other media, either.  My favorite author is Tolkien, if you want anything to compare to.  People have recommended Past Sins a couple of times, but it looks like that may be one of the more sad fanfictions.  Anyways, if you have a suggestion or two, I'd appreciate it.

I've been reading a lot of fanfiction lately.

 

The two I recommend strongly are:

 

1.) The Best Night Ever by Capn_Chryssalid. This fanfiction is about Prince Blueblood, who must relive the night of the Gala every single day. He gets a lot of character development. It honestly made me like Prince Blueblood. It's a comedy, with a dash of romance.

 

2.) The Assassination of Twilight Sparkle by Rated Ponystar. In the mood to cry? This tragic fanfiction is perfect for you. A 13.8k+ word masterpiece, this story follows Celestia through her stages of grief after the death of the princess of friendship.

Reason canon Ponies vs insane chaotic evil TCB Ponies. Yet, there many TCB Ponies on Humanity's side.
