music Why do people hate Nickelback?

I'm sure allot of you have heard of the band Nickelback.

I listened to a few of their songs and well... they're alright.

Not great, but ok.

It's just not my taste in music though.

I also heard that they get TONS of hate.

I find this quite odd because I don't see any reason to truly hate Nickelback.

 

Can someone tell me why people hate Nickelback so much?

I wouldn't say I hate them. I just don't like them. The reason is because my previous ex loved them, so whenever I think about Nickleback, I always think of my ex. D: It brings back bad memories for me is all.

I think they're somehow sellouts or something.  Whatever the reason, it has to do with money and artistic dishonesty (making stuff to sell, not making stuff to say).  I dunno though.  I don't mind them.

I ask that question myself. We live in a world of Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Calvin Harris, and David Guetta, and this is what the internet says is the worst act in music? A woefully average, heavily derivative rock band? For real?

 

Same goes for One Direction, IMO. Mediocre =/= awful.

A lot of his music is offensive and in my opinion, just sounds bad. Plus I heard that he is a scumbag in real life. 

 

On another note, I knew someone who was born in Nicklebacks hometown. He is given grim reminders of that fact.

Nickleback is a "mehband" to me. They are not terrible, but it is not a good band IMO neither. I find them pretty boring and even lyrics are far from interesting to me. 

 

But I too think that amount of hate they get is... too big. Besides it is hate that eventually made Justin Bieber, Rebecca Black, and Nickelback as popular as they are. Let's be honest, I'd never hear about them to this day. And I'd never figure out those are their songs on the radio.

The lyrics to their songs are cringe-inducingly stupid and there was a time when it seemed like if you listened to a modern rock station, then every other song would be a Nickelback song.

They are by far not the worst music act around, but as a rock group, they are very...samey with a lot of their music. Far too much of it sounds the same and none of it is really pushing any kind of boundaries at all, it is incredibly 'safe' music. Too safe in my opinion.

I found their songs to be uninteresting with their overall premises and lyrics. I prefer the word dislike instead of hate because I can tolerate their existence, but I would much rather listen other music any day of the week.

I recall someone posting a video years ago where they played two Nickleback songs at the same time, and they sounded similar to the point where I can deduce that they were being very lazy with their writing.

I don't really see why Nickelback should get all the hate it does. Probably because they are so mainstream, and considered mediocre by many.

It's because they signed on to a record company long ago that did hard rock and metal but they didn't really do that back then when they released their album "The State" So everyone was all like "WTF is this?" And then they spread it like wildfire on the internet. At least that's the story I read on reddit.

I don't know. Probably because people on the internet started hating and others just said "alright let's hop on the hate train". Probably a lot of people just don't like that kind of music. I don't listen to them but I like most of their music.

Meh... its some music i listened back then when i was really into modern rock. Although even then i wasnt that big fan of them. But i dont think they are terrible.

 

 

I was like into stuff like Three Days Grace and Seether just to mention some examples.
