Optimist or pessimist?

Skeleton Kin

Recommended Posts

I tend to be more of an optimist myself, though I do try to be as realistic I can when I give advice.

I mean I'm not perfect and there may be times where I seem pessimistic, but I prefer to see people smiling & all, or at least to have a clear mind when dealing with troubling issues. Of course, I'm not going to lie to someone and say everything will be fine if I believe the opposite, but I also believe that being a bit too negative can be just as bad as being too positive.

In the end, it's a question of balance and what works best for the individual. It might be different for others, but for me, I guess you could say I'm an optimistic-leaning realist. ;)

I'm an optimist, although it can be hard to find the good things in life when you're surrounded by grief, and misery.

If I had to choose between saving myself and saving others,

                                                            I would save both.   :comeatus:

I'm a realist in this sense.

"The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails." - William Arthur Ward

But I do try to be a optimist most fo the time. I hated being pessimistic all the time when I was younger. I always worried and felt sad about stuff. I find you if you try to at leats be a bit more optimistic, while still being a realist, you will be more happy. :)

I used to consider myself an optimist, but things just usually don't play in the way I want them to be, or I don't have the life I want, or the skills, so I just feel negative about a lot of stuff, or I don't appreciate what I have as much as I should (except for Swirly who I do appreciate :) ).

I have my ups and downs, but I'm mostly an optimist as i try to temper my motivation, creativity, and overall attitude with positive feeling. I don't kid myself into thinking everything'll be alright on it's own, however. I do what i must, and i have confidence in my success.

I'm a pessimist, but more of an idealist if anything.

Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.

Is it possible to be both? Because I can be either depending on how I've been feeling for a while. Like say things have been going great, nothing's bothered me and I've been cheerful then I'm optimistic. And when my life's been crap and everything's been bothering me, no ones listened to me well obviously then I'm pessimistic. Know what I mean. I don't have a set mood on this sort of thing really. If that makes sense.

try to be optimistic and by the stars I have tried without BSing myself. There are those times where I think that humanity does not deserve to be saved, especially from the consequences of its own ignorance. For good or ill, we deserve everything we get.

What I require is nothing less than people leading by example. Words are cheap but actions are not.

I can be a mixture of both. Pessimistic in that I have these lingering fears about human individuality being knocked away, bit by bit, until there's no 'I' or 'you' or 'me' left (I've read 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'... it... didn't exactly inspire a lot of hope in me :P). I can be optimistic though, because if the world can be steered towards great evil by those with 'authority', then equally it can be brought towards a much brighter future. Though people can change for the worst, I like to believe that anyone can also change for the best. At the time being, I'd say I'm feeling more of an optimist :)

Oh great, an optimist/pessimist thread.  This can't end well...

See what I did there?  That was a little joke, because I'm known as the world's biggest pessimist, followed closely by my mom.  We drive my dad nuts because he's an ever-cheerful optimist.  My mom will drag him down with her pessimism, and he'll jokingly say, "There you go again.  Why do I even bother?  World's biggest pessimist."  Then I'll walk into the room and clear my throat loudly, and he'll say "Sorry, second biggest," to which I'll reply, "and don't you forget it."

I really try to see the bright side though, but it's often so hard.

Well nether and both, I am 50% realist and 50% unstable. I can be really optimist or really pessimistic sometimes , depending on my mood

Definitely an optimist.

Whenever I'm in a shitty situation, I think about my life as a sit-com, and I start feeling better :)

Other people are more pessimistic about my own life more than I am lol

Pessimist. But I use it as a way to come out on top of a situation no matter what. If I'm expecting something to happen, or expecting to get something, I ALWAYS condition myself to believe it's never going to happen. That way, if it actually does happen, I'll be pleasantly surprised, and if it doesn't actually happen, I'm prepared for it.

The optimist fell ten stories

At each window bar

He shouted to his friends:

"All right so far!"

I'm selectively optimistic and generally pessimistic; the latter most definitely encompassing the human race and its ridiculous antics. xD  D'oooooh, you silly people, you!  (Yes, I'm also a people.  Regrettably.)  Optimism I reserve for what's nearest and dearest to me.
