How would feel about Rarity if/when she breaks Spike's heart?

Two things:

  1. I love the pairing, but if the writers can handle it maturely and make a good story of the situation that leaves both characters for the better, than I'm okay with this idea. Best Pony will still be Best Pony.
  2. Why do we even need to explore the more "biological" aspects of the relationship if it were to happen. I'm sure it would work out just fine.

Some people are forgetting many things.

Such as the fact that Rarity has demonstrated she cares for Spike (often more profoundly than anyone else in the cast), and she did NOT steal his gem in SoME.

Go to derpibooru and type "secret of my excess, twitter" to find Larson's twitter post explaining what he meant by the scene.

So... what do you have really?

Once again I'm sure species and age doesn't matter.

What matters would be the personality Rarity is looking for in a gentleman.

Spike is a very good choice for her because he exhibits all the qualities she's looking for and genuinely cares for her. This type of inter relationship has been done before so it shouldn't be any different here. Same with the age.

Unless someone like Spike but better comes along I doubt Rarity will be happy with her choice.

Agree with Scootalove. They're not really into each other. Rarity is too busy for a relationship with someone, much less someone who's clearly still a kid and acts like one, and on Spike's end he's content to just daydream about her with the occasional gesture that goes over her head. Actually I wasn't even sure she knew about his crush on her until 'Secret of My Excess,' and she earned a lot of my respect by not stepping on his feelings afterwards. But that's all it really is, a crush.

We criticize Rarity for not taking him seriously, but really that's for the best. Because Rarity doesn't take him seriously, she doesn't feel the need to friendzone him and bring him crashing back down to earth. And even if she did, Spike's a cool guy; he'd get over it.

Once again I'm sure species and age doesn't matter.

That's not what they told ME when I was growing up.

(I'm just messing with you.)

It would make Rarity look like a real flank hole for taking advantage of and toying with Spike's feelings to get him to do manual labor for her or to take stuff from him.

The flank is the hip, not the buttock. That error just drives me nuts.

I think Rarity in a way already attempted to let Spike down easy when she shh'd him when he was confessing while falling out of the sky in Secret of My Excess.

I kind of thought she was telling him not to say it so she didn't have to reject him. Just to let it be something that might happen later.

Rarity breaking Spike's heart is nearly inevitable considering how Rarity just finds Spike cute at the moment. Spike will learn from the situation like all of us guys and he'll move on. I won't feel any worse for Rarity if this happened (not that I felt any better about Rarity).

Nooo! Why do you do this to me, OP?

Here we are, two of the most interesting characters on the show. I love them both to pieces. I don't want to think about Rarity being mean enough to break Spike's heart, or Spike being heartbroken for that matter ;_;

I don't think Rarity is a cruel pony, and i don't think she would be mean enough to intentionally break her Spikey Wikey's heart. I think Spikey Wikey would undestand, but still feel sad and disappointed about it.

He'll have to learn, i guess.

If Rarity told him she does not share the same feelings, everyone will hate Rarity for friendzoning him. The only way Rarity would not be hated is if she accepts those feelings and shares them, then that would be pedophilia. This is why Rarity will never win a poll for Best Pony.

I'm waiting for this, I can't wait to see a scene like this one:

I don't think Rarity will get hate if she acts like Wendy (the girl in the video).

Why hasn't this thread faced the wrath of the ghostfacekiller?
Anyways, not all relationships require sex. Rarity and Spikes relationship transcends it entirely. For Spike, it's more based on knight's honor, where just being around her is enough; he doesn't want anything else. Her giving him time is all he needs to be happy.
Rarity also cares for him; she gives him rewards for when he does stuff for her, even though she doesn't have to, and Spike wouldn't complain. To my knowledge, she's never turned him away when he wants to be around her. She's even willing to hoof to claw three adolescent dragons to protect him.
It's a wonderful, completely platonic relationship; why would you want to ruin that by sticking relationship markers where there doesn't need to be any?
