I've never really liked Dash a lot. And that line, oh boy I despised it.

I am happy to report that I now realize there are wonderful things in this world you just can't explain, but that doesn't necessarily make them any less true. It just means you have to choose to believe in them, and sometimes it takes a friend to show you the way.

 

In a sense I can agree, but this line has always bothered me. It's putting a little too much emphasis on blind faith...at least to me.

"Hello, Rarity. What's that? Aw, it's nothin', just my awesome mustache." (that joke already was over before it had started...)

 

"Can you do that? Can you explode twice?" (only with enough sugar...)

 

"I'm coming for you, my lady. Hi-ho, Twilight! Away!" (I'm still shaken today by that purposeful use of horse...)

 

"Ugh, the rainbow wig just kills it for me." (that wig was awesome...)

 

"Easy peasy, cider squeezy." (no... just, no...)

 

 

 

(seriously, Spike has some really awful lines, let it be either monologue or dialogue)

Everything about that statement annoys me. First of all, I question how grammatically correct it is, it's an odd statement and regardless of its correctness, it really hits the ear wrong. Second of all, I can't stand it when fiction uses "it" in a dramatic sense for some quickie mystery. It's been done so much that it's become a lazy cliche.

Second of all, I can't stand it when fiction uses "it" in a dramatic sense for some quickie mystery. It's been done so much that it's become a lazy cliche.

Welcome to what is known as the pronoun game, it is used to cause unuseful drama when the character really just could say exactly who/what they are referring to instead of he, she, or it.

That's more a problem with the fandom's overuse of the phrase, not the line itself. It worked within the context of the episode because it represented that type of frustrating customer who only gives you a vague idea of what they want.

I'm referring to the whole wishy washy customer being dumb thing... though if a customer called up and was like "I need my 30 valve manifold and 50 gallon tank 20% cooler" I would just be left dumbfounded...

Any ham-fisted expository dialogue that makes me inclined to dance around the room and sing "Exposition" to the tune of "I Love to Singa" with crazy jazz hands is by rule a bad line.

 

Similarly, any time Spike or Pinkie Pie yaps like an idiot and needs to be shut up by another character. Examples being "Hurricane Fluttershy" and of course, the episode that may as well be titled "Pinkie At Her Worst" ("Filli Vanilli").

As per the lines... Hmm. Pretty much anything that Fluttershy's agression trainer said. His lines were really dopey. Although I see why they did it.

Big Mac's "eeyup" "nope" gag from 401. Also the whole scene in 402, sending Twilight back to Ponyville, was boring and dragged down the episode when at that point it should normally have been building up.

I know Equestria Girls:RR is technically not connected to the show, but when Twilight said "Friendship is Magic!" in front of everyone, I cringed. Oh, and when human Rainbow Dash said "I'm awesome" several times in that solo of hers, I did a major face palm.

Not to nitpick or anything, but I can handle all lines up to whenever ANYPONY says "my little ponies". UGH. It just makes me cringe, especially since it was used incorrectly sometimes(i.e pinkie pie in "Fall Weather Friends"). It feels takced on/forced. I know, My Little Pony is the name of the show, but it doesn't need to be mentioned in dialogue.

In Feeling Pinkie Keen, Fluttershy says something like, "oh hi Twilight Sparkle"

It's awkwardly formal and hearing Fluttershy deliver it just sounds wrong.

 

In Twilight's Kingdom, Rarity says something like, "the tree of Harmony would have died if we hadn't given the Elements of Harmony away"

It just sounds totally thrown in for the audience and unnatural for a character to say.

 

Then there's quite a few failed Pinkie Pie jokes that come off as bizarre instead of funny.

 

But honestly, nothing atrocious from what I can recall. The writers are professional and at worst they screw up their phrasing or suffer from the "it was funny when I wrote it last night" syndrome.
