The Judge Rotenberg Center. WTF?

Moved to Elsewhere

Recommended Posts

So, one of the people I'm subscribed to on YouTube, Mr. Enter, wrote a Deviant Art Journal today criticizing the actions of one, Judge Rotenberg Center. http://www.deviantart.com/journal/I-don-t-even-this-is-bad-533757216

In short, they try to "treat" people with Autism through methods like shock therapy. They're like a more extreme version of Autism Speaks.

My thoughts: This is fucking sick. As someone on the Autism spectrum, I do not approve of these methods. You cannot cure Autism. It's a neurological disorder, not a freaking disease! Stop trying to cure it, especially through such extreme methods!

That's barbaric. It saddens me that such a place is allowed to exist.

I wish more people would focus on helping people with autism live their life instead of looking for a cure that isn't there. Its like trying to cure blindness while the leaving the blind to fend for themselves.

While I agree with you, this sounds like torture to me, and it's wrong on so many levels. I have to disagree on one point, that neurological conditions can't be treated. They can be undone or made worse via sensory stimulation and certain types of drugs, but in the case of inflicting pain and putting people through torture is not going to do anything positive to their heads. On top of all that, we still haven't got enough information about autism to even properly come up with a treatment for it. When it comes to neurological things, it's still a vastly unknown field, much of it is linked together in ways we have yet to comprehend.

It saddens me as a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the state government allows the place to continue existing.

I am the Autism spectrum myself and I have heard of these asswipes but believe it or not they are not even close to the bottom of the barrel. These other people have actually started their own church to hide behind religious freedom so they can use "Miracle Mineral Solution" or MMS for short which is bleach, yes bleach mixed with chlorite dioxide to "cure" their Autistic children. And chemical castration is being used on Autistic boys on the dis proven hypothesis that Autism is caused by excessive testosterone levels. I don't trust big pharma either and have been a huge critic of vaccines but this is a good example of how there oftentimes idiots on both sides of an issue.

I thought we abandoned electrical shock therapy after the forties, to treat mental illness, now it is utter insanity to even think such a method is viable. The judge who is advocating electrical shock therapy, is the real mentally ill, with a soul deficit disorder, to believe that electricity can cure autism, what next, use radium to cure Aspergers? It is shamefully barbaric to treat our most vulnerable people, with careless and callous disregard, we must help them live with illness, and teach others to live along side those with autism, or what ever illness they have, they are still human, we must not let ourselves succumb to brutality and ignorance, the value of human life must be honoured, no matter who they are, no matter if they were born with mental illness or were affected, we are human, bonded by love and reinforced by inner strength.

Even though I'm not autistic, reading what I saw on Mr. Enter's DeviantArt journal really made my blood boil.

This kind of shit is disgusting and inhumane.

The government needs to step in and put an end to this shit and they need to do it now!

"The Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) is a residential facility in Massachusetts where disabled residents are subject to electric shock, sensory assault, food deprivation, prolonged restraint and seclusion, and a host of other horrifying and aversive “treatments.”

Holy Fuck! This is way worse than Autism $peaks! THEY NEED TO GET SHUT DOWN FOR CRIMES AGANST HUMANITY!

I tried watching the video of someone getting shocked. It was too disturbing to watch.

I tried to as well. It's heartbreaking to see that stuff like this is still happening in the 21st century.

I seriously hope that the US Government shuts places like this down and, if they don't, then I hope that a higher power (The United Nations) steps in and shuts it down.

afaik locals in Massachusetts (my mother included) have tried to get the state government to shut it down, but their efforts were fruitless because people were like "Oh no, it's not terrible, it really helped my son out! For reals!"

Any parent who honestly believes this vile therapy helps kids with autism is as evil as the sick fucks who conduct this quackery. Your mother's awesome for trying to rally to get that center shut down, and I hope she and everyone else who tried to keep fighting.

This reminds me a lot of what some reparative centers do to minors: To equate being gay with pain, they shock the LGBT minor to "scare" the gay away. It's no less sickening, but its no less surprising.

I doubt the United Nations will do anything, what are they going to do? Put sanctions on the state of Massachusetts? The local, state and federal government all need to have the pressure put on them to shut down this glorified concentration camp, other places like it and all the other con artists out there that are taking advantage of parents fears and desperation. Much of the reason why this and other inhumane treatments like this exist are because of all the fear mongering that paints Autism as a fate worse than death.

I am not saying that Autism is a walk in the park because I know first hand that it is not, and I am not saying there aren't really serious cases where there are going to be kids still in diapers in adulthood but I can't emphasize enough that it is a broad and diverse spectrum and that most on it are capable of being productive members of society with the right supports which things like shock therapy and other inhumane "treatments" are not. If the breaks aren't put on this even crueler treatments like lobotomies could make a come back that is if they haven't already and we just don't know about them yet.

I'm scared to read it...

I feel physically sick to my stomach!

My little brother is autistic and he is such a sweetie! (I have suspicions about myself being in the spectrum too for personal reasons)

oh god... seriously tho! They typically just learn differently it's not that big of a deal!
I am so done with people who shame and treat people who are too different like a disease!

seriously, they need to grow up, that is so childish to be so hateful to a harmless difference!

ARGH

Think about the people who do this.

Do you think every employee knew this was a sick, demented place and that they're sick, demented people?

No.

They probably came in thinking they would help the world, help the lives of many. But they aren't. They fall prey to the institution's sick lies, and before they can sense it, they're trapped. You can't say a word of the truth; they'll fire you. And you don't have any other financial backing. They know you'll have to keep working for them forever.

She holds a degree in special education and then her own son, me, has AS, so of course she'd want to get it shut down. There is no reason it should remain open, especially in a state like Massachusetts, which has otherwise been leading America on a lot of social and economic issues.

Oh, yeah. I remember this. I first heard about this a loooooooong time ago.

Yeah, it's pretty sick. I'm surprised they're still around with how fucking morally and ethically wrong those people are.

Some people don't deserve... being accepted by society? I dunno. I hope anyone working with that are in prison now.

I guess I meant whoever has the higher ranking and official workings with it. The people who genuinely thought it was a good idea.
