Most anime now have at least one episode that caters to the fans. Although fan service episodes in anime has a much more adult feel, with the standard Hot-spring episode full of, shall we say, near Hentai bounce. I see nothing wrong with MLP:FIM having an episode just to please fans. I watched the clip, and was very pleased with it. I love some of the little details. The decor of their cottage is split exactly down the middle, right down the center of the door, in fact! This goes a long way towards my personal headcanon of their "Odd Couple" relationship. I liked how Vinyl took a little time to find a good feel for Octavia's music, before the sound truly meshed into something wonderful.  As for if their relationship extends past "Just friends and room mates" this does nothing to dispel or confirm that. Partners in a relationship do much more than bedroom things together, after all. I think  the writers and animators found a good way to present Octavia and Vinyl together, without doing something to incur the wrath of Soccer Moms.

I know there are folks who eyeroll to fanservice but I absolutely LOVE this kind of stuff. We all knew from the get go that 100 was going to be fanservice central and this pretty much confirms it.

 

Also I think we all can take it as canon that Vinyl Scratch/DJ PON3 is mute, as in, does not talk, ever. Not a word in rainbow rocks and not a word in this scene.

Whaddya mean a more adult feel?  They took off her collar.  Octy was NAKED! (1:53) Though it was only a chest up chin down view

 

It's so fanservice that it's a joke about fanservice and though the episode will possibly stink [due to being a mishmash of random fanservice moments] many of us (including myself) love it for the fanservice.

Anyone planning to be overly critical about an episode that exists for the sole purpose of having fun instead of main story advancement deserves any disappointment they've set themselves up for.

Headcanons being destroyed doesn't mean you should get upset at the show. It's their show, after all, not yours. If you want to be upset at anyone, be upset at yourself for failing to accurately predict what the characters will be like. Or how about, just don't get upset at all? That works too.

This does seem like one episode where the staff is just trying to have fun for the entire thing, so things may come across  as being over the top. Frankly I am more interested in the Pandabee.

Octavia spoke in Rainbow Rocks using the same voice. She was voiced by Kazumi Evans (who is normally the singing voice of Rarity).

 

2:00 Did I just see a reference to Max Mad: Fury Road's Guitar scene? Awesome .

Since Mad Max and episode 100 would have been in production at the same time and came out only within a few weeks of each other, I think it was probably a coincidence. Otherwise, Octavia would have been wearing red longjohns.

Welp according to UnknownAnon, he did say that Things will go back to normal. Slice of Life seems like it is going to be a one and done type deal for the time being. BUT after all, it's just an one-time episode of MLP:FiM And I'm gonna say that again: The headcanons WILL NOT be destroyed, end of the story!!!

yanno, I'm honestly surprised that no one's thought that the writers might be implying something toward the fandom, with this 100th episode. Look past the background ponies, guys....the episode....the episode throws in a giant monster that pull the Mane 6 away from being the focus, this time around....a giant Panda-wing....which, If you ask me, sounds an awfully lot like "pandering"....or a Bee-Bear....pun, which others have been making as a reference to Justin Beiber, who is as everyone knows, an annoying person who has (or tries to have) too much influence on things)....and focuses on two donkeys/ Jackasses.

 

Pandering to "Beibers"/ annoying people/ jackasses- the 100th episode

so the writers seem to imply, at least, from my perspective, from two main focus points of the episode.
