What does music make you think of?

For as long as I can remember, music as always made me think of many different things. It often now makes me think of ideas, or perhaps 'scenes' for the world I have been working on for a few years, or anything in between. Pretty vividly too, music is great for that. Music is wonderful for inspiration.

Does music make you think of different things while listening to it? Anything in particular? Does a particular music type inspire anything different?

It really depends on what I'm listening to, but lots of times I think of movie scenes. Not ones from actual movies, but ones I make up in my head. I've made entire series of movies in my head by listening to music before.

Depends on the song. If it's a loud rock song, I'd probably think of an epic battle between rivals. If it's soft piano music, I'd usually think much gentler things like lovers on a beach or something :)

I'm not really sure any existing language could possibly convey any kind of real emotion, and therefore it is useless to attempt to explain how one would "feel" when listening to music. But by thoughts, in my case, they usually wander about the subjects of making such music myself. I might be able to pick up much of the basics of music, but just as a child apt to learning, teaching is required. I have had little of it, and it saddens me that I cannot create my own music to share with others.

Makes me think of peace. When I listen to my music it gives me peace of mind and it's been the best thing for me when I don't feel well. Music makes me think of a safe haven almost like dreams. Somewhere I can go to get away from it all and forget the world for a while. That is what music is to me.

I listen to a lot of ambient music and I would say that kind of music makes me think of "a better world" or somewhere in my head.  Music to me is a soundtrack to life.  I like to have at least one of my headphones in whenever I can so I can be by myself when I'm out in public.

Depends on all the aspects of the kind of music you are listening to. The rhythm and tempo etc.

Where music is concerned, it uses different sounds to promote different emotions and different states of mentality. That's why you get sad music, cheerful music and music that makes you concentrate.

So for me, it would solely depend on what kind of music I'm listening to.

When I was younger, my piano teacher used to always describe our pieces by different bodies of water. So, a slow peace was a lazy, winding river, but a fast one was whitewater rapids. This has stuck with me and even now, I still think of my music as water in various forms.

All sorts of things:

It depends on the song, and how that song makes me feel.

Some thoughts are about the lyrics mixed in with things the song for whatever reason makes me think of.

Other times I think of the singer, the album art or people dancing and stuff like that.

To be honest, for me, it's not myself who's painting the picture, it's the composer or music artists who are. After all, the majority of music that floats around out in the world has been inspired by something, and that something is what is being portrayed through sound. I guess maybe for me, music is more of a visual thing, where I try to see a story, just like I'm reading a faded, water-damaged book, and I let the song drag me along into whatever lies in the measures ahead.

Generally, of all the songs and tracks I've ever heard, despite the genres, I usually think about patterns. Lots and lots of patterns can be found within music. The drums, the melody, the chords, even the sound effects has a pattern that make up a bigger, more general song pattern. These patterns when combined correctly will make an overall pattern that I think is called harmony. That's what I think...

Hey! I hear something! "ponies! ponies! Ponies! PONIES!" It's getting closer! Prepare the Guns! FRIENDSHIP GUNS!!

I get mental picture.

It depends on what music I'm listening to.

When I'm animating I always listen to music and it helps me paint a picture in my head to put in the screen.

Music gets me fired up and going like little else. I'm either imagining myself playing the song onstage, rallying the crowd in a demonstration of true power, or setting the song to some epic fight scenes and re enacting those. Running around my house, jumping up & down, all sorts of excited craziness, I'm so glad I got wireless headphones.

Music gives definition to the mind. Whether you're making it or listening to it you'll always be able to find something to match your mood or allow you to visualize anything.

Lots of music topics today. I am approval.

I've always just associated music with fun, usually. There are exceptions, but I mostly listen to happy-sounding music, so for me it conjures images of cruising windows down in the summer, or hanging with my friends, or just chilling. Those are the realist moments in life, those are the ones you can still vaguely remember in the nursing home when you're 95. They may seem pointless to others, but you know how important and precious those moments were and yet are to you.

Oh I wish it made me think of adventure or peace... But since I started playing Geometry Dash (a music video game), most of my songs remind me that game. :/

It also reminds some stuff I created in my head (a cartoon or a video game), hehe... ^_^

Also, for some specific songs, it can reminds me the circumstances where I heard it for the first time.

You're just like me. I do the exact same thing depending on what I listen to!

Imagining myself doing awesome things or a scenario for the music(or if its video game related,What the characters are doing),Or me reacting to the music.

For Example:

Classical Music:i can imagine soldiers marching/An Orchestra playing intensely.

Dubstep:Epic Stuff,Such as Driving and drifting in the mountains.

For the most part, music acts as a bit of a time capsule for me. I associate the music I listen to largely with the first time I heard it. This can either make it really magical, or it can make it really, really, really insanely painful to listen to. Nostalgia has always been more bitter than sweet for me, but as my life grows sadder, it grows even more painful. Having just lost a dog who was very important to me, and my happiness - One of those wonders that came into my life when everything else was falling apart. Songs I listened to back when I first got him in 2008 are now really painful to listen to.

However, music, usually instrumental can be pretty powerful in bringing imagry into my head. Like this piece by Debussy, called "The Submerged Cathedral", is actually incredible in how accurately it can map the view of the underwater cathedral in my mind:

English Folk songs are also quite good at this... Bringing up images of historical English landscapes... Usually overcast with mist... Because a lot of them are very dark. Lol.

I always try to match what I'm listening to with some sort of scene with predefined characters I've created for just that. Due to the fact that I listen to a lot of metal it's often fighting scenes, anime style.
