Have trouble smiling?

It isn't a real smile unless you also smile with your eyes.  But I could "fake" some weak, eyeless smile; not that I generally want or care to.  I'm in it for the real ones.

I can't fake smile to save my life. I tend to not smile much these days anyway so I don't have to worry that much.

I'm not much of smiler.  I just have a naturally, very straight face, to the point that I look grumpy even when I'm not.  That doesn't mean I don't love to smile.  Who doesn't?  But I don't really smile that much.  It's not that easy for me.  I can't force it or fake it.  I have to feel it inside (Equestria Games moral stuff), and I usually don't.

When I was a kid (and even sometimes as an adult), people would pick on me for not smiling.  That's really annoying.  Some people just don't smile easily.  Mind your own business and stop telling them to show some teeth.

Now, when I'm sitting here on the forums, or watching youtube, I tend to smile a lot, but that's kind of different.  It's not real life.  It's internet meme ville, and that gets me laughing.  When I go out in the real world, I'm more of a sad sack.

I wish I could fake a smile.  I want to have a nice photo smile, and be able to make good, cheerful first impressions.  I really like myself, for the most part, but I my smile is probably the one feature I wish I could change the most.  Even when it's real, I don't have a good smile.  And that's really one of the first things people notice about you, and one of the things people tend to fall in love with, so I wish I had a better one.  I have a friend who's Mr. Charisma, and has the best smile in the world.  He's great at faking a good mood and making everyone around him happy.  He taught me a good trick for looking cheerful: if you have trouble faking a smile, just raise your eyebrows.  You don't have to widen your eyes a lot, just hold your eyebrows up.  It makes you look cheerful and friendly, but it's much easier than forcing a cheesy smile.  This trick literally saved me when I worked a customer service job and my boss got after me for looking too cold and grumpy.

I smile... heck, let's be honest here - I smirk, I grin, I lift those mouth corners 'til they almost touch at times; I'm an entertainer by nature, and a father to boot.  I kinda HAVE to smile a lot.

Not that I always FEEL like it, but the power of a smile certainly seems to brighten things up for those around me, so I do it.

I sometimes get the whole "tears of a clown" sensation when I have to smile & grin for my kids, but when I see THEM smile - TOTALLY worth the effort.  Smiles for children are like apples for ponies; they NEED them.

Besides, the lil' boogers are cute - I'll smile in spite of myself.

Is it weird that I'm like one of the only people in here who smiles naturally quite a bit?? Like even if I'm depressed, it doesn't take much for me to smile.

As for fake smiling, I do OK with it, it doesn't usually look natural. But normally if I don't feel like smiling, I don't.

I naturally smiled a lot, but I rarely genuinely felt it, at least that's how it was prior to starting hormones. Post hormones I actually feel like I smile less but when I do it's totally genuine! Amazing feeling, genuine happiness with a smile.

Not really, I'm naturally happy and I don't force myself to smile. Half-smiling is sort of my default expression.

I can never smile properly unless something makes me feel like smiling; if I try force it, it either looks obvious that it's fake, or my expression just looks neutral like usual. x3

Lucky you.

But in general I would advice anyone to not smile too much. Its insincere, you know?
