spoiler Preview Clip for Brotherhooves Social

I like the possibility of a gender fluid Big Mac.  The clip was funny, because it's funny whenever they give Mac more than 2 words an episode.

The episode's scenario could also involve the fact things are so mare-centric in Equestria and the Stallions do get sidelined a lot.  While drag humor is crass, several stories with a cross-dressing scenario usually have to do with some activity, group, or situation which excludes a particular gender.  Common scenarios: girl dressing as a boy to play sports because she's just as fierce.  Guy dressing a woman to participate in an activity dubbed "girly" by society and discovering it's ok to be in touch with emotions in the meantime.

Hopefully the take away will be that just because Big Mac is strong and tough doesn't mean he can't enjoy lovely things and be open about his feelings.

It was funny, and it gives a really interesting glimpse as to who Big Mac is.

We assume he's just a big ol tough guy of few words, but he DOES dream of being a Princess, and in the comics its shown that he has many diverse sides to him, perhaps one of them is something like this. He did seem quite comfortable doing that act, like he had some experience with it before, Perhaps Mac could have a little side life we don't know about. We won't know till we see the episode though.

I shall dub this pending fandom drama, 'Much Ado About Nothing". Also I look forward to the forthcoming confusion of terminology and promise I will not be 'that guy'.

Um, yeah, as a transgender person, this is a pretty big deal. Theres already enough misinformation about transgender people in the world, and its getting us killed. We don't need another dash of misinformation.

This is a very serious issue. And yes, if the episode doesnt do it well, i WILL rant about it.

i think it would be funny if Mac appears right at the end of the episode next this "cousin" of theirs.

The only thing I don't get is, if that IS Mac, he is speaking alot more fluidly than he normally does and much lighter. I haven't seen him use that many words since the CMC gave him Love Poison....

Applebloom, have you been playing "chemist" again? XD

It will probably depend on whether you see this a representation of transgender people or a someone trying to act in a way they are not being presented as a fool.

Ultimately the clip doesn't bring us much more than the synopsis did and could easily be completely out of context.

Now that the episode has been shown, I'm pretty disappointed in how they handled the dress thing. Big Mac's outfit was still treated as a massive joke. The "not ladylike" remark also sounded a bit sexist (though I guess it could be given leeway since it was applied gender neutrally). Also, if they knew all along that Big Mac was a stallion, why didn't they just say so to begin with and explain the rules?

Despite its problems, it was still a very fun and unpredictable episode to watch.

There is nothing more tougher in Equestria than an Alicorn Princess.

"It really wasn't an issue", says the gentleman who was participating in and organzing LGBT rallies in the Philadelphia and Orlando area since most members here were in size 3 Huggies.

Please don't lecture me on this topic. ;)

Um, ok, i really don't want to start an argument, but please, do NOT silence me or say my concerns aren't valid. There have been many in the LGBT+ who have been insensitive to Transgender issues, some are even outright transphobic, and often the T is an afterthought to a lot of LGBT+ people.

I'm not saying you are, but I hope this helps you understand why "I organize LGBT+ events therefore I have the right to say this isn't a big deal to transgender people" is pretty much the same as "I have a black friend therefore I have the right to say something that is viewed as racially insensitive isn't racially insensitive".

I would agree with your second paragraph but it doesn't apply here.

Welp, now the episode is out. Will give my commentary on the issue below

I didn't really think Big Macintosh dressing up like a woman was intended as a commentary on trans people, and I felt like the episode's theme was far enough from that that I'd hesitate to make the leap to that subject. I felt Mac's envy of AB's relationship with AJ had much more to do with this episode than his gender. However this line below could actually have some positive implications in that regard.

Apple Bloom: I should've known you'd eventually get busted for bein' a stallion!

Registration Pony: Oh no, we've known all along. The Sisterhooves Social has always had a loose policy when it comes to what counts as a 'sister'.

That could be taken to mean "In the past, sisters whose bodies might be considered male have wanted to compete, and we've always allowed that." Which is pretty darn great. The situation isn't exactly the same (Big Macintosh doesn't consider himself to be Apple Bloom's "sister") and that could make the whole thing a bit awkward, but I still think it sort of worked. It means that if Mac had been AB's sister, the judges would've been totally cool with them entering together.

All of that is only if the episode meant to touch on those issues, which I don't think it did.

Not telling anyone how to feel about the whole thing, but that's my (admittedly cis) take on it.
