One word to describe this fandom?

Diverse.

Aside from having a wide range of fan works (music, art, fan fiction, show analysis, etc.), the fandom includes people who come from many walks of life. Yes, the fandom isn't perfect, just like other fandoms aren't. There are both positive and negative aspects about the community. However, overall, the fact that so many different people can come together because of a show is pretty awesome. :)

But seriously, I'd go with productive.

Few fandoms made as much fandom-related shit as bronies did so soon after becoming a thing. Even a year after MLP got big, there were TONS of fanfics, art, music, videos, OCs, RPs, websites, tons of stuff. Okay, so most of it sucks, but it's still impressive that so many people liked the show and fandom enough to make stuff for it.

"Creative"

I say "creative" because this fandom has produced some absolutely beautiful artwork as well as original music, animations, websites, and even video games (Legends of Equestria and Luna Game just to name a few).

Ok, I'm only going to say this once and drop it. Flame wars are based off of opinions and stupid closed minded people who have nothing better to do with there lives than to troll.

Having a negative opinion doesn't mean you're intending to troll or closed minded. Closed minded is also when you have a positive opinion and refuse to accept criticism of it even if said criticism may be legitimate. It's clinging to an idea and not listening to any opposition of that idea.

That being said if I had to pick a word I would probably pick:

Misleading.

While I am know there are plenty of good bronies who do wonderful things, this fandom has a tendency to dismiss the bad and try to get people not to pay attention to it and insists that it should not be counted. While I agree that the entire fandom should not be stereotyped by the bad, trying to dismiss it or get people to not pay any mind to it doesn't help that cause. It just is trying to paint a picture for them that isn't 100% true. The best approach is to say "It's good, but there are some issues and here they are" and give people a realistic expectation rather than try to convince them it's all good and that bad stuff should just be ignored.

I mean when I first explored this fandom so many bronies insisted this fandom was about tolerance and doing good. Any problems with the fandom I discovered were brushed under the rug and I was told not to point them out. I find that dishonest and misleading. Homestuck is trash, but at least Homestuck fans tell people their fandom is trash. They don't set you up by saying their fandom is this super accepting place and then when you get there you find out it's not true.

I'm sorry but I generally find that on average with my personal encounters with bronies that the word "misleading" is appropriate to describe my experiences. You can't really say I am wrong for feeling that way because that would be telling me how to feel about what I've encountered.

In my 5 years in the brony fandom this is what I have experienced:

  • Porn being shoved into my face when I didn't want it.
  • Lying.
  • Art theft up the wazoo.
  • Death threats over different opinions.
  • Someone tried to hack my computer over a minor critique of their fanfiction.
  • Sexual harassment.
  • Sexism towards myself, my friends, my wife, etc.
  • Closed-mindedness.
  • Overreactions.
  • Scams.
  • A sex offender get let off the hook on another site because "love and tolerate".
  • Being told I am the worst human being alive for liking/disliking something.
  • Being told I need to call myself a brony even if I don't want to.

After all of that, how could anyone want to call themselves a brony?

Anyways, that's my word and my reasoning behind my choice. It may not be a "positive" one, but it's an honest one. It's one that I am pulling from my real experiences and not just to start drama.

Vocal.

We Bronies always seem to find a lot to say about FiM. We dive into and dissect the show in ways that I'm sure the producers never truly intended for us to do, we share our vast and diverse opinions on just about everything, even the smaller, seemingly mundane issues that might make some people go: "Why even bother? It's just a show.", and overall we critique ourselves, both the good and bad of our fandom, what we love and what we hate. Reading all the many varied responses above just reinforces that.

Truly though, I still see us as one of the most accepting and friendly communities I've had the pleasure of being a part of. Fight me on that if you want, it's simply my opinion. And we are, if anything; Vocal.

I've never felt so welcomed by a group of people than in this fandom.

Creative.

A lot of people here have the stunning ability to unleash their talents to create masterpieces, such as Fanfictions, PMVs, Music, Arts and Craft, etc. Honestly, out of every fandom i've been in, only this one inspired me to make some masterpieces myself. :)

  • 2 years later...

I'd say disturbing. Even if my first impression of the fandom was "Ooh this is nice, colorful and pleasant", I've come to notice that this fandom houses some of the most hateful and unpleasant people I've seen around fandoms. It's thoroughly disturbing that a cute show about ponies learning about friendship has such an off-putting fandom - I find it sad, really.

While I know the fandom has done great, amazing things just as well, it's always a bit harder to notice the positive things when there are so many negatives.

Colorful

(And I love all the colors of Rainbow.)

That word can describe everything about this fandom. There are every kind of people on this fandom. I was also going with creative or accepting but I thought that word would be the best.

I like most things about this fandom (incliding some things which other may find... wierd). That's what I got to say in all honesty. I never had any bitter encounter with anyone here so my opinion maybe biased.

'Diverse' seems to cover it because there is no one demographic that defines it. There are adults, kids, men, women and backgrounds of every description. I want to add Committed and Resilient because MLP fans are singularly dedicated to what they love, but that goes without saying.
