spoiler Would Rainbow Dash being a full Wonderbolt be a bad idea?

As implied by Testing, Testing, The Wonderbolts are basically the MLP version of the Air Force. Between this and performances and such, could this end up hurting Dashie, who as we know represents the element of loyalty?

I think so, yes. Its something that she's never supposed to achieve because its her goal, and as a cartoon character, she can't achieve that.

That'd be like spongebob getting the promotion or something.

Um, Twilight became a Princess and was still able to talk to her Friends, so why would it be a Problem if Raindow Dash achieves her Goal?

I mean, being a Wonderbold, would just be her new Job, replacing her old Job of pushing away Clouds, and her earlier Job was no Problem, she could still see her Friends a lot, so why would her Wonderbold Job be a Problem?

Or maybe she doesnt appear in all Episodes then...but she already does that anyway so...i dont see any Problems. At all.

And the Writers could still just let Rainbowdash appear anywhere anyway. Its a fictional Show after all.

Not if she replaces Spitfire as the leader ... the flaw that has been shown in several Wonderbolt focused episodes is a lack of loyalty. This is why Dash may be destined to not only join them ... but inspire them to actually be the team they aren't

True, that does make sense.

To be fair, not all of the Mane 6 appear in all episodes.

Circumstances change - whilst the Mane 6 will probably remain in Ponyville for as long as FiM goes on for, it is a fact of life that people don't stay in the same place forever. Coping with that whilst remaining friends could be a really good subject for one of the final episodes which would also point towards a natural conclusion for FiM (whenever that may be.)

The exception to that would be when you are wrapping things up for one reason or another - the end of FiM prior to the start of the next generation, for example.

Given that it has been her aspiration since the first episode, it is a natural conclusion to her development as far as the cartoon goes. I would imagine it will happen, but probably not until the last possible moment so that there is no opportunity for her change in status to negatively affect the dynamic of the cartoon.

That being said, Twilight and the CMC have all reached what should have been the logical conclusion of their characters as well, Twilight's didn't have a massively adverse effect for the show as a whole, and as for the CMC, it remains to be seen if they will still work as well post-crusade.

Maybe so, but I try not to imagine that the series will end.

I wouldn't want to see the end of the entire world they've created here, but if FiM has a brilliant final series (which it really deserves) and then has a replacement which is in the same world but with a different focus and different angle but the same competence and occasional brilliance that made FiM such a success then I couldn't really ask for more.

And if they end FiM in the right way (such as making Dash a full Wonderbolt and dealing with the consequences, another example I heard about was that apparently it was Lauren Faust's plan for Twilight to ultimately replace Celestia) then there wouldn't be a need to make a complete break from the world they've made (re-boots tend to follow unsuccessful, long-abandoned or run into the ground properties, as far as I can tell) so you wouldn't loose the world (which is what I think most of us really like - not just one character or the other, great though they are.) If they do it wrong then... well, that wouldn't be great, and it's a worry that they might do it wrong that does make me think 'maybe not just yet...'

Instead of Rainbow Dash achieving her goal towards the end of the show, I would prefer it to happen sooner, like when the the CMC got their cutie marks.  Just because it's been her goal since the start of the series, that doesn't mean her journey just stops once she achieves it.  She still would have to face everyday struggles, and would still try to achieve other things.  Rarity finally achieved her dream of opening a boutique in Canterlot, and she still stars in several episodes.  Allowing Rainbow to reach her goal would change things up a bit, and give the opportunity for the writers to create some new, interesting episodes.

I wasn't trying to suggest that that would be the end for her entirely, more that from a narrative standpoint it would be a fitting conclusion for her, giving the character some element of closure than rather her story just stopping mid-flow.

Her character arch has to end sometime, and assuming season 6 is the last (currently no news on a season 7) and the movie is where FIM will end, having Rainbow Dash becoming a wonderbolt during this season would be a nice way to do so.

Unless they can start a new arc with her being a Wonderbolt. Rarity started her business in Canterlot and she's still with her friends.

A Season 6 episode has been announced which apparently deals with this very topic.

Rainbow Dash achieves her dream of becoming a Wonderbolt, but she makes a disastrous first impression and gets saddled with the mortifying nickname of "Newbie Dash".

Air date: May 7th 2016

REALLY not looking forward to that episode. Like, seriously, this is supposed to be a huge achievement episode, and THAT'S the stuff you guys come up with? a name calling episode? like, seriously?

that's like having Twilight's kingdom being about twilight feeling upset that she looks fat in her princess dress or some shit.

She went to boot camp and was gone for weeks. Just boot camp. With the Wonderbolts being akin to the Air Force, it's likely that she'd be stationed at the castle or even patrolling throughout the country.

HOWEVER.

Because the MLP crew likes convenient (lazy) circumstances, she'd be stationed at Twilight's castle. Cuz you know.

LAZY.

By now, she's so much better than them both in terms of skill and moral strength that she really shouldn't even be bothering with them anymore. She'd be better off starting her own superior team.

Going to be honest, I kind of have been wanting her to give up on the wonderbolts and do something else with her life now for a while, after all the crap the WB's have done.

I just hope it's not Spitfire and/or Soaring who insist on calling her that despite her objections, since that would just make them come across as childish.

I hope she learns to grow up a bit before that wonderbolts episode. One thing about rainbow dash that always seemed to hold her back was her lack of maturity. I guess we could consider the episode where she had to deal with loss as the example of her growing up a bit, but I am unconvinced that she would be mature enough to be a member of the military yet. I guess we will have to wait and see if rainbow crash really is wonder bolts material...

Why exactly would it be a bad idea? Shouldn't characters have their end goal completed so there can be a satisfying conclusion?

I mean people got sick of the Pokemon anime due to Ash never completing his goal. There needs to be some conclusion for the characters or else people are gonna get sick of it after a while.

I think the episode may actually be based on what actually happens with pilots. Pilots are given call signs, and often are given embarrassing nicknames based on a mistake they made, like a reminder so that they don't repeat the same incident. Generally you can't choose your own call sign, it's given to you by others, and complaining about it is just sure to make it stick around longer.

Might be that Rainbow Dash feels like the nickname is a sign that they're rejecting her, when in reality they would do that to any new member and have even done it to one another, so they're treating her like she is a part of the team.
