Looks like this is a spiritual successor to Dragon Quest, right down to the Mane Six's disguise.

 

As someone who never had an issue with Dragon Quest I'm looking forward to this episode.

Looks like we know who's getting captured - Twilight and Rarity. How the dragons manage to capture an Alicorn is beyond me, but maybe they'll give us a good explanation?

 

Poor Spike - he looks so scared standing among all those dragons. I didn't know he had gotten such a phobia over being around his own kind. 

 

I'm guessing the setup to their being there will be Twilight wants to witness the choosing of the new Dragon Lord for research purposes, and she coaxed Spike and Rarity to come along.

 

The new description with the teaser mentions Spike making a new friend. It's probably that blue dragon hovering next to the current Dragon Lord (cool design for him, BTW). I'll ship it only if she's more than just a love interest for Spike. 

 

 

Oh yeah, good thinking Twilight and Rarity disguising yourselves as Holder's Bolder.

Episode looks very promising but I'll reserve my judgement for when it airs. I will say that I hope Rarity and Twilight aren't the only mane 6 in this, one of my biggest pet peeves with Spike is that they spend way too much screentime pairing him with those two and not enough with anyone else

The Dragons look more like proper Noble Demons instead of complete sociopaths like Garble's gang this time around.

I don't think it needs much explanation. Even as a strong magical user, Twilight's still just one pony, and there are a lot of dragons around there. We've never actually seen a dragon alone get overpowered, and in Celestia and Luna's journal they needed to use Fluttershy's tactic of using intimidation when they had to deal with one that stole the crystal heart.

I know there has been some speculation that dragons might be resistant to pony magic, though Twilight had no problem putting a 'stache on Spike. You're probably right that a Dragon Lord combined with his subjects are more than a match for a single Alicorn and unicorn!

Said speculation only seems to apply to direct magical lasers and things like that.

 

Indirect effects -- like ^that "'stache" part, the kind of stuff that Discord loves to flaunt, etc. -- are probably a completely different story.

Yeah, that name does come off as a bit cringey, doesn't it? It must be a really hot flame if it's something lava-swimming dragons don't want to venture into.

That was my main issue with "Princess Spike." Spike himself was OK - I was able to accept he might go on a power trip since it is in a dragon's nature and it wasn't emphasized for a long segment of that episode (even though I do think it's kind of well-worn territory development-wise), and he pretty much obeyed Cadence's orders. The thing that makes me hate that episode is how incompetent every pony save for Twilight is portrayed.

 

I too am a little concerned that this is going to feel like a retread of "Dragon Quest", but for now I am remaining cautiously optimistic.

Good catch! I wonder if there's going to be some significance to his natural marking/cutie marks/tats resembling Rarity's?

 

EDIT: Oooh, maybe that dragon will see Rarity's markings and take it as a sign to make her his bride!

I did not care for Dragon Quest, but after seeing this teaser, I have hopes that it could easily crush it's spiritual predecessor. They just have to write the caracters in a good way for this one, and I think we'll have a deal.

Learning about Spike's new friend, I'm thinking now he will get the title of Dragon Lord, and then immediately hand the Bloodstone Scepter over to her because he doesn't want any part of lording over a bunch of dragons. Kind of like how Twilight reluctantly accepted her role as princess. (Yeah her personality has rubbed off on her #1 assistant.  )

 

I'm thinking he'll entrust his new friend with the job of spreading friendship to other dragons that weren't here for the ceremony and that's why she'll make the perfect Dragon Lord in his stead, as he and the girls head back to Ponyville.

It also looks like we will be learning more about dragons and some of their lore in this episode.

This episode looks like something I might actually like.

Hopefully it turns out to be a better version of Dragon Quest.

Inspiration Manifestation, Secret of my Excess, and im personally pretty fond of Just for Sidekicks and don't mind Equestria games.

 

Basically the more Rarity present in a Spike episode the higher the likelihood it'll be good.
