More Generation 1 Creatures?

We know Sea Ponies are showing up (well Shoo-Bee-Doo!), and since the movie has the Mane 6 on a world tour outside of Equestria, it got to wondering about other Generation 1 whatzits.

 

Ya know, like the Bushwoolies, the Grundles(Danny DeVito cameo time?), the Moochic, the Troggles, and numerous other creatures that popped up through out the old cartoon.

 

Because this movie seems like the best time to update them for the current generation. It even be a case of now or never...

Thing is, oversaturating the movie with so many of them will take away their focus and importance. Few is better in this case

I would be fine with seeing Grogar appear in the show.

Also I am really really really wanting to see Scorpan appear in the flesh one of these days.

Well, if they were to appear, they would probably get a major reboot like the one Tirek had. Creatures like Moochic the gnome are clearly human in appereance and they'd had to give him a major overhaul so he doesn't look out of place. Anothe one i'd like to see is Squirk. He's this Kraken-like dude for those who don't know...

As you can see, he also has a lobster henchman named Crank. Given that it seems sea ponies will appear in the film, they could rework the guy as a major enemy of them.

In all honestly though, i'm really hoping Scorpan gets to show up in the flesh soon. After all, in the season 4 finale he was pretty much treated as an unseen plot device for Tirek's own backstory.

Scorpan isn't a bad guy as much as a good guy or neutral who was forced to do Tirek's bidding.

Hmm... Squirk is a better choice then Grogar, though they ought to reintroduce the Pennas with that slimy old octopus. He's personally not my favorite villain. Edited June 20, 2016 by Leave a Whisper

We need the stonebacks, accompanied with that constant snorting sound for no reason. xD

 

 

Seriously, though... A lot of these creatures are just so... 80s... They would probably not translate too well over to today. lol

Just update them like Tirek, the Smooze, to a lesser extent Scorpan, and even the ponies themselves.

 

This will have the Mane 6 on an epic globetrotting (heh) whirlwind adventure, so that opens the door wide for them to encounter all kinds of unfamiliar creatures. Which some Gen 1 oddballs would be perfect for.

With the more than likely sea ponies setting, they fit better as villains than Grogar. I just hope they they become better than the laughably 80's cartoon villain this time

Hehehe, well you know, the closest we've gotten to the Stonebacks in the current generation are the Slingtails from Gauntlet of Fire, those armadillo/rhino-like monsters which throw rocks at the dragons as part of the challenge.

Totally agree on getting the Grundles of Grundletown back with a Danny DeVito cameo! Loved their incessant need to sing & rhyme despite Grundle being a good third of their vocabulary.

Would like Scorpan back too, if only has a harbringer of doom & a mystic/exposition dump like Rafiki from Lion King.

 

But more so then those, I want Katrina back. Just slightly under the humanoid level of acceptability what with her being an anthropomorphized cat lady. Loved her story arc as a villain in so short a showing, she was basically enslaving the smaller, weaker species of the Bushwoolies (those things were walking snack cakes to me anyhow)into making her an elixir of immortality, but when push came to shove & she was left clawing the edge of a pit sloping into basically a meatgrinder & they gave her the option of reforming or death. That look in her eyes of "Sure! Sure! Whatever!! I'll be good! Didn't think evil would end in this!"

 

Can't think of the name, but heard of some huge crystalline giant that the ponies back then just straight up murdered into diamond dust.

Man, cartoons those days didn't know how to pull punches, lol!
