Should FiM continue as a series?

ManaMinori

The mane 6 have kinda reached the end of their development and the background characters/ side characters are coming into the forefront. Should Hasbro cull Friendship is Magic an settle for making a spin-off series, with a secondary mane 6, or focusing on the CMC, Spike, the villains, royal sisters, Flurry Heart, Zecora, or anypony else? (coughbringingSunsetShimmerbacktoEquestriainaspinoffcough) There's endless possibilities to be had.

I hear ya. Honestly that's what I've been expecting for a long while now, but we don't really seem to be headed in that direction. I would LOVE to see Sunset come back, though! And however sad I may be to see the mane 6 go, I think it's just time.

I honestly would not mind this. It is one of those where if it is not broken there is no need to fix it. They could continue with other characters and keep the same overall style and feel of how the show is now. Bring in new faces, new actors, maybe new writers, the possibilities at this point are near endless which is why I think the world of FiM should not be abandoned any time soon.

Maybe, but I would miss the mane 6 since seven seasons starting with them can make you pretty attach to them. It probably won't be the same but I would be up for half of the episodes starting with the background characters.

I don't even really see why they'd need a spin-off for that. If they wanted to just switch the focus to new characters they could do that with the already existing show. Not that I'd want them to necessarily. Rather than taking the focus off the mane 6 entirely I'd rather they just focus on new characters too, but keep the Mane six around as well, I don't think it's impossible to find new ways to develop them, or interesting ways to incorporate them into episodes even when they're not the focus.

No.

It really is time for a fresh start.

The show has been declining for a while now, and whilst it may still be enjoyable, sooner or later it will crash and burn.

Better for it to end with people still wanting more than for it to get to the point where everyone is tired of it, and the chances for a gen 5 have gone down the drain.

You know,  they introduced Starlight for a reason. They have no reason to kill off the main show, they just need to find new ways to keep it interesting.

I don't know about a spinoff, but I think we're at a point where the original character and story arcs of the show are more or less completed, and it would be healthy for the show to reach its conclusion soon. I personally still feel like the show has potential, but it's now years past its heyday (which I still consider to be season 2), and I'm not really sure it could reclaim that, even though I sort of like the direction it's currently going in. That doesn't really help Hasbro sell toys, and I'm pretty sure continuing the show would be good for the brand in that sense, but as much as I enjoyed season 6 and hope to enjoy season 7 more than I have been, I'd no longer be too sad were the show to end soon.

Given how most of the main characters and their stories have concluded, I think it makes sense that the show itself does so as well.  Plus the universe itself can still exist if there were to be a G4.5 series focusing on new characters instead.

I dont think it really should since like it has been said the character arch's have been concluded so there isn't much more to do with it. I really think the movie should be the finale for gen 4 then after that Hasbro could kick off 4.5 or gen 5.

I believe the series has run for far to long gen 4 is the longest running gen usually mlp would last maybe 2-3 seasons maybe 4 have a couple of movies then move onto the next generation, but Hasbro does not seem to be letting go which is bringing down the show everything has already been accomplished so not much more can be placed in and they are trying so hard I think its time to end generation 4 and just start working on generation 5 since mlp will not be ending anytime soon nor will my littlest pet shop which really like that show as well so to wrap it all up end generation 4 start on generation 5 and my littlest pet shop is a really good show as well.

Hmm, you do have an idea there. One reason why Thomas & Friends thrives is they don't center all of their episodes on a select few. Well, they did for a few seasons after HiT bought its rights, but under Andrew Brenner, their focus has become more diversified. FIM's spent a good chunk on their core seven and the CMCs, with sprinkles of Discord and now Starlight. If done right, they could produce a side-series that expands their cast.

@chaosprincess

If the show does get canceled, it doesn't mean G4 will. Comics are still being sold, and the merchandise will last until at least 2019.

If there's a G5 coming, chances are Hasbro would be working on it as I type.

I was talking more about the show itself not the merchandise I am a collector and still collect figures from the older my little pony generations so I do know the merchandise will still be out there I mean Hasbro is still selling generation 1 merchandise and that has ended years ago, but I just feel the show should end and they move onto a next generation as Hasbro always does my little pony will never truly end no matter what generation it is the fans will always keep it alive and new generations will keep being made.

The mane 6 are done, we know every thing and they've done everything. It's time for the show to end OR to focus on new character, why not the "new mane 6" but they'll have to change the name and restart from season 1.
Honestly that's the only solution I see for the show to continue !

That's one reason why I haven't been one of the Starlight or Twilicorn-bashing critics. There comes a point when things need to be freshened up a bit. That doesn't necessarily mean they need to make spinoffs or start from scratch with a new generation. It just means they need to bring in new characters/settings and update existing ones, just to keep them interesting.

I wouldn't mind if Starlight became the new main character, but only if ALL the Mane Six have everything that I think they need.

So far now, my guess is that Pinkie Pie only needs some big roles with Fluttershy and/or the CMCs at some point within the second half of Season 7 (out of 11 episodes before the finale), and Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity all aren't needed much anymore. The rest can go to Starlight or somepony else.

I think when we decide the mane six story is over its time to go to gen 4.5 or gen 5. New characters, new story. Possible cameos from the mane six in there.

My suggestion for next generation:

Set before the existence of Equestria. medieval times, epic stories. Possibly showing Celestia and Luna's youth. While still remaining child friendly and have slice of life stories in there. Essentially the making of Equestria, all the struggles and epic stories of the medieval times ponies. Great deep characters and fun epic stories.

As long as the toys continue to sell and Hasbro is making money in the process, they will keep the series going for as long as possible. There will come a time where the show will need to end for both logical and realistic reasons, but for now it will keep continuing forward.

The fun thing about people is that they never stop growing or changing. FiM has done an AMAZING job of replicating ones growth in the mane 6, so I don't see why they'd switch focus. The mane 6 still interact, and are still friends, but like anyone, you interact and form friendships with people outside your squad. I think the show's done a great job of showing who the main characters are and how they grow as a group, now they're showing how they grow as individuals away from the group. This in turn opens up the possibility for side characters to grow like Starlight and Maud last weekend.

The mane 6 will ALWAYS be the primary focus of the show, they're the franchises biggest selling point after all. But they don't have to always be TOGETHER. So no, they shouldn't switch to a new group, because the mane 6 haven't stopped growing. Adding new characters just freshens things up, and provides new sources of growth.

Also isn't Sunset like permanently in EqG? I don't think she's ever coming back~

Simple answer is yes..

Simple reason is that so far season 7 has been interesting. Had good ratings and good critical returns.

Why would you even think of ending it... No I mean really.

A series is allowed to evolve from how it started. There's no reason to change the title just because the main characters are different than when it first started.

Hell, you could change who the main characters even are and the title would still be relevant. Friendship and camaraderie is still the focus of the show and there's still ponies. That doesn't change just because Twilight isn't the focus.
