spoiler The S7 finale HAS to be focused on the Mane 6

Hey there. I will break my silence here to talk about something I realized lately. Lately We have discovered the title of the S7 finale (Shadow Play) and the writers of it (Josh haber and Nicole Dubuc). Now, the news of of Haber returning on the show, writing a season finale, was really shocking for me as well (in a mixed way to say the least because I loved The Cutie remark but HATED WITH A BURNING PASSION TWABA)..... but there is a factor many people didn't considered. According to the last comic solicitation that the final issue of the Legends of Magic series ties in with the S7 finale. That issues will feature all the six legendary ponies teaming up against an ultimate foe, and the characters self will appear already in the Campfire Tales episode, in stories told by RD, AJ and Rarity. Also there has been that line from Starlight in Mirror Magic which could have been a foreshadowing for the S7 finale (she said that the Mane 6 have been called away for a friendship problem). All these details made me thinking.... that the S7 finale will be totally focused on the Mane 6, and that they are gonna stop the Pony of Shadow together in the same style, the six legendary ponies defeated the ultimate enemy in past, like if they are gonna become their "spiritual successors" (couldn't find a better term, but you get the idea).

Think about it:

Starswirl the Bearded: Twilight Sparkle;

Flash Magnus: Rainbow Dash;

Somnanbula: Fluttershy;

Rockhoof: Applejack;

Meadowbrook: Pinkie Pie;

Mistmane: Rarity.

They match perfectly the respective Mane 6 in both personalities AND species so it's very likely this would happen.... There is only one thing that worries me, is something that I don't really think it's gonna happen (especially since the Press release mentioned Twilight fighting the Pony of Shadows), but could totally ruin the episode to me if it happens: won't be the Mane 6 the "spiritual successors" of the Legendary ponies.... but Starlight and other five ponies came out of nowhere. I REALLY hope that won't happen, or it would be the BIIIIGGEST BULL*** this show has ever done.

Yeah, so in short the S7 finale is up to be or the bestest things this show has ever done... or one of the biggest disasters that have happened to it. What do you think?

Well I don't think it will be a disaster if it focused on Starlight, it would be weird, but not terrible, I don't ride the Starlight hate bandwagon so don't agree there

But I do want it to be a mane 6/Twilight focused episode.

As much as I agree with you, just demanding it via forum isn't gonna increase the odds. I understand that it's something ya gotta let out. I'm trying to keep in control of bragging how important it is to S7E24 being the 2nd Spike episode of the season because he needs it, since everypony else had their fair share of episodes, he's gotta be either the main character or one of the two main characters! But like i said, bragging won't increase the odds. We just gotta hope for the best, my friend!

I'm confident that this finale will have the Mane Six be the heroes again! ;)

I think it's pretty clear now that Twilight at least will be a major character. I really hope the others will also get big roles.

As you can tell from my avatar, I'm a massive fan of Starlight. Still I feel strongly that the 'Starlight Redemption' arc is now over, and she's no longer any more important than anyone not called Twilight Sparkle.

I really hope so. I don't know why, but I actually have a good feeling about this finale(well, barring the "Haber writing it" part)

Starlight could be a stand in for the Pony of shadows though, such as it possessing her (ala midnight sparkle/Sunset satan/ect., a character temporarily insane and evil due to an outside influence), or even be a DESCENDANT of the pony of shadows (since we know that they had kids in the past and the other descendant, shadowlock, was incredibly powerful).

So even if the other 6 are connected to or analogues to the legends of the past, there's plenty of ways to make the Finale still feature or heavily revolve around starlight (as an example, if she acts as a pony of shadows analogue, she could show that "defeating" the pony was the wrong thing to do and instead befriend it as an ex villain herself)

I'm HOPING she's not in it, but don't count your chickens too soon.

There is a high chance the mane 6 will be the main characters due to Legend of Magic and  Pony of Shadow (Shadow Play) set-up.

If it was a... Starlight finale all along... more power to me ;), even if the mane 6 are main character and Starlight is put on the background (like the movie), It's ok, there are many things i loved about the show, i wont lose anything. Furthermore, i think its too soon for Chrysalis revenge this season, i want her return after the movie ;).

Assuming they've retconed Meadowbrook's from 8 items to 6, I doubt Starlight will have an important role in it. It's OK, she had her time to shine last season, it's time for our classics to do so

Honestly. it shouldn't matter who gets the spotlight! Whether the heroes save the day and learn something about themselves or life, or have a simple slice of life episodes with a lot of laughs, as long as the episodes are entertaining, I'll keep watching!

They don't need to retcon the items to 8 if they wank it in the same way they look to be wanking Meadowbrook being an eastern unicorn (as far as I can tell, the "eastern unicorns" must refer to ponies she associated with like mistmane and not herself).

the items don't need to have been owned by meadowbrook HERSELF, just something she dealt with, kind of like saying "flash magnus and his dragons" would be a correct way to refer to dragons in HIS story despite them not being owned by him specifically.

So 2 or more of the items could just have been ones that meadowbrook sealed away or dealt with in the past to make it work. Technically that is :P

That doesn't matter, as long as it is enjoyable. A Starlight finale would be fine in my opinion, but I rather see a mane 7 episode. Starlight needs to go with the mane 6 more often. :grin:

Josh Haber might not be the cleverest writer in the show, but having Starlight and 5 other ponies out of nowhere as the spiritual successors of the 6 legends instead of the Mane 6 would be a  VEEEEEERY fool and stupid move, even for him. Besides, I already said that the press release mentioned Twilight against the Pony of shadow so...

No, not starlight and 5 other ponies, The mane six as the stand ins for the legends that beat the shadow pony, and Starlight glimmer being related in some way to the pony of shadows (like a descendant of it)

That may be possible. If Shadowlock descend from him, it's possible for more to share the bloodline

Weren't the Mane 6 captured by Chrysalis not too long ago? I have no doubt that she will get her revenge on Starlight for what happened in the S6 Finale? It will be a battle of those two in the end. Besides, what's Twilight going to do in a finale, she couldn't lead the Mane 6 to any defeats without some form of special magic and is not a very good leader.

Uhm.... forgive me but.... that would make even less sense than Starlight and other 5 random ponies being the spiritual successors of the legends. In Castle Mane-ia it has been said that the Pony of Shadow would be an entity created by the remenants of Nightmare moon's magic before Celestia banished her. How can Starlight Glimmer being related to someone like that? (Besides, there are chances that Starlight won't be featured in the finale at all because there is a possibility that this finale happens in parallel with EG's Mirror Magic, if what Starlight said in that special was a foreshadowing of the S7 finale as I think)

Using stochastic algorithms to model genealogy, if someone has ANY descendants after numerous generations, they are probably the ancestor of a good chunk of the population, but fiction tends to ignore this rule.

It's been confirmed Twilight will battle the pony of shadows this finale, so probably not going to be the battle between Chrysalis and Starlight this time around.

Not to mention the usual mistake of only one main character possessing the ancestry of only one past hero, while it's far more plausible for more than one character sharing the same ancestor, but also one main character being descended from more than one past hero

because the comics clearly state that the pony of shadows got it on in the past and had Biological children, meaning he/she HAS had children and descendants; Given how they're treating the POS, I'm betting they're going to take the route of "AJ was quoting a legend, and its not correct, the actual origin for the pony of shadows is different".

After all, The seventh LOM comic is almost certainly going to have the pony of shadows in it in some form (since I doubt the sirens will be in the S7 finale). and given how Starswirl is in that comic it implies the pony of shadows existed before luna turned into nightmare moon.

It might even be the entity that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon, as it's frequently been hinted that although Luna accepted the transformation of her own free will something outside herself powered it.

It could also be exactly as Applejack stated, a pony corrupted by Nightmare Moon's magic. The comics show such beings, and they're both fanatically loyal to her, yet possessed of something of their free will and previous memories. They also possess various shadow powers similar to hers, yet also have physical form. I don't see any reason why they couldn't still sire children.

That's just a legend, not all legends are true. Shadowlock is descended from the Pony of Shadows as confirmed by the comics.

That's strange considering her lack of screen time this season. You got a link to it?

I loved TWABA mainly because of Starlight. Granted its been awhile since the mane six took down a bad guy togther. I think the last one was in the s5 premier(not counting eqg). And Starlight has already had a heavy focus, so shifting it back too the mane six isn't a bad idea.
