From where we live, we call it soda.  The only time you can catch me saying coke is when I'm referring to the Coca-Cola soft drink and I will never refer it as pop.

Even though English isn't my first language, I've always used the word soda. An old primary school English book of mine used the word soft drink though but that never really stuck with me. Soda is nice and easy to pronounce as well.

Soda, because coke is coca cola  .

Although I guess the same logic applied to speedos and polos could be applied to soft drinks; not all are "coke", but similar enough in nature to be called so :P .

I say cans and bottles are pop and if it's from a fountain it's soda

I've always the used the word soda, like the average American.

Coke specifically refers to the cola made from Coca-Cola, and isn't used for any other type of drink. Although I still say coke even when I'm at a place serving Pepsi.

I've seen a map of the united state's showing where people said pop vs. soda, however in my experience it seems more of an age thing where I'm from, making me wonder if that's true elsewhere. I think soda rolls off the tongue a tad bit easier than pop as well.

People generalizing by saying coke should stop snorting the powder and get with the rest of the crowd, and people saying soft drink are generalizing too much because although it preferences carbonated beverages, by definition it may include any beverage so long as it does not have alcohol.

I call them soft drinks, but sometimes I call them fizzy drinks because they're not really 'soft'. If I drink cola, I call it Coke because it's quicker and easier than saying Pepsi, and I like the sound of Coke better than 'cola'.
