I know the feeling - we had an unexpected outage in one of our secure services links today; thought it was initially nets and comms, but turned out to be an expired certificate causing a ipsec tunnel to drop... and of course updating the cert could only be done in person, because the tunnel was down....

Mine human sayeth that the worst case of "remote cretinism", she hath had in her practice, was when a "specialist" turned off the LAN (for Celestia's sake, talk pony not yak!) connection on the remote workstation, while being exactly on remote access *facehoofs*

Had that before now too. A genius amongst beancounters did mandate that in order to save the almost unnoticeable amount of power it would, the power supplied remotely to the phones upon desks would be turned off promptly at 9pm. Of course, said cable continued on from the phone to the computer, and on this occasion I was talking to a customer experiencing a loss of service, while remotely attempting its recovery... until 9pm, when voice and data both vanished out from under me, leaving a somewhat frantic customer trying to phone in...

Your human has my sympathies.
