I wish I was joking.

Michael Bay is producing a Dora The Explorer movie with The writer of The Muppets and Neighbors writing and possibly directing it.

weve reached Idiocrocy. The world is officially ruled by idiots.

This would be stupid enough to work

"CAN YOU FIND THE GIANT ENEMY SCROTUM?!"

The most amazing thing about this? It will probably turn out better than all of the Transformers movies combined. XD Unless it is live action, then we are in for a nightmare.

Yeah, it’s live action. Here’s a source:

I’m honestly surprised by this news. Nick hasn’t really done anything with Dora for quite some time now. The original series has been out of production for a few years now, and its second spin-off, Dora and Friends: Into The City! (which premiered in 2014) didn’t last long either. I’m also surprised that Michael Bay is a producer because I didn’t think this seemed like the sort of thing he’d do. If it does turn out to be bad, I honestly wouldn’t be that disappointed. I liked Dora when I was a kid, but it doesn’t hold up for me as an adult. I don’t hate it, but it’s not really something I can get into either. It does at least do its job since it’s a hit with its target demographic (or at least was during its heyday). I probably won’t be seeing this movie, though (or at least not in theaters).

Not gonna lie, I am morbidly curious to see how this will turn out.

I am crossing my fingers that this will turn out to be a trainwreck that you can have a good time watching it and making fun of it with friends.

This is...interesting. Could Michael Bay be trying for a new direction in his career? Still...I will admit I am VERY interested in how this will turn out.

Who knows? Dora by Michael Bay could very well be Indiana Jones/Lara Croft with BAYsplosions! :D

I'd be all in for a cartoon movie of Dora the Explorer. That used to be my show back in the day. However, if it's live action, it's not gonna sit well with me. I mean...nowadays, more and more cartoon shows are becoming live action...which has already been done enough.

There are some kids franchises that have outlived their charm. I also watched Dora (as well as Go, Diego, Go!) as a kid but neither show come off as timeless. If there's going to be a reboot in any form, including this live action movie, then it desperately needs people with the talent of Lauren Faust to spearhead it. But they chose Michael Bay? This doesn't seem right for him.

It’s not that I think it outlived its charm. What I meant is that I just don’t personally think it’s a good show now that I’m older. Sorry for the confusion.

I will say this, though: I like the original intro (haven’t heard the other versions in years, so I can’t give them a fair judgement).

"From the man who brought you Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre ... comes ... D-d-d-d-d Dora."

Now that the jokes are out of the way, allow me to bring something unique to this discussion beyond the general view that can be summed up with a Farnsworth meme, since that type of reaction appears to be the limit of the internet's imagination regarding any news like this. It's almost laughably predictable. Kudos to the person who suggested that they may be morbidly curious.

Top of my head thoughts were  ...

This puts Bay in a curious box he has never been in before. I'm wondering if there is any latent desire to make something his mother would be proud of, considering her profession and influence on his life.

Oh look, a new angle that the internet hasn't thought of ...

The weirdest news in a while. When I saw the thread title, my first thought was that someone had fallen for an article from The Onion or something. But apparently not.

I never liked Dora (I wasn't even in its target demographic anymore when I first saw it) so I'm fine with them doing anything they want with the characters. Unless it's drastically different from the original, I'm not interested in the film. They will probably have to aim at a wider audience than the TV show if they want to have commercial success. But even then, will it work? I doubt there are enough people past the target demographic with particular nostalgia for Dora. They would have to add some conflict at least, Swiper is a very weak villain even by pre-school show standards. :D

It's probably going to turn out like The Emoji Movie did for me.

It's an incredibly stupid yet hilarious idea that I think will have a mediocre, unnoticed release, yet its release actually brings a movie with waves of actual hate against it.

Turns out Bay isn’t actually involved. His production company, Platinum Dunes is producing it, but Bay himself is not involved. The actual producers are Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

EDIT: Platinum Dunes isn’t involved, either.

My sentiments exactly.

When the guy who directed movies that were rated pg-13 and higher ratings produces a movie adaptation of Dora the Explorer, you gotta wonder if Hollywood's off their rocker.
