Does anyone else find the front view of ponies ugly?

I love the style of My Little Pony, except for when it comes to a front-facing view of the characters.

I mean, profile view? Adorable.

3/4 view? Super cute.

Front view? awkward and a bit ugly. Just doesn't vibe with the others.

At least I've always thought so.

Good point. This is actually quite common thing now when I think about it. For excample, I have always hated that dumbass-face of Micky watching straight at you, though never really knowing why...  Guess animated, moving cartoon characters aren't really supposed to be watched from the front, they work better from different angles.

Aiheeseen liittyvä kuvaUncanny valley and breaking the fourth wall, all that jazz... Those beady eyes are just horrible :eww:

Not really, I think that last Shy you posted was super cute too. Ponies look fine from the front view...Well, except for that one time in Fall Weather Friends with Celestia.

This one's a little scary.:yuck: Other than this image though, can't think of any other times ponies looked really bad from the front, I can actually think of plenty of cute front images in the show though.

I don't think the front view is ugly at all, but I do think the side view can look better, especially when trying to draw~

Huh? I think they all look cute. Maybe it's just me but I like all views.

I mean, it's definitely the least flattering view for the ponies, I'll give you that, but I wouldn't say it's ugly.

Lemme put it like this, I've seen both Deadpool movies in theaters, and the second one is definitely much better than the first. But just because I view the 2nd one as a 10, that doesn't really change how the 1st is a 9. It's not bad, just comparatively worse.

I've seen comments on that before and I think that has a lot to do with what we're used to. For some reason, the front view is shown quite rarely in the show (and other material) compared to other angles.

I don't find it ugly myself, I think the example included in the first post is quite cute. And I'm sure there are quite a few adorable images from that angle... ^_^

I think it depends on what's being expressed, and the lack of shading. 3/4 is the because it provides some depth which is something we're used to. Take that away and you enter a sort of uncanny valley. The lines in Fluttershy's mane are able to provide some depth by having parts for in front of and behind her face but it doesn't work as well from the side or straight on.

I like this image of Twilight! This one of Rainbow Dash is a little odd though, I admit.

I disagree, respectfully though. I am glad that they've shown such a cute front view in the show. I mean, how else we can see their beautiful face at full.

Yep, I think Marble Limestone looks pretty, even with a frown.

If you gaze long into a Pony, the Pony also gazes into you.

Nnnnno....
I see nothing wrong with it. And comeon, a Pony looking straight at me? It's the sight that if I beheld with my own eyes, there would be tears of joy. My heart would soar into the stratosphere and never return.

IMO, that one's actually decent.

Still not as good as something like this, though:
