Upcoming "Oswalt x Salenger" episode

There’s been rumors that Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger recorded an episode about family earlier this year, and they claimed that the episode focuses on the characters they voiced. However, Salenger never did any work on MLP before that, so it’s obviously gonna be a Season 9 episode.

Whatever this episode is, it certainly, absolutely better not be another stupid, ridiculous episode that all the Mane Six are absent in!

What's wrong with episodes that don't have the mane six in it? Sure, those are my favorite episodes but that seems a bit biased, ya know?

Well, I love the Mane Six – well, actually, most of them – AND more importantly, they are the main characters.

They are the main characters, but they don't need to be in every episode. Having episodes dedicated to side characters is just as interesting.

1. This isn't a rumor. Salenger (Oswalt's wife) stated this episode's about family herself. Whether it's EQG or S9 is up to question, but it's becoming more like a S9 episode.
2. You continue to act like an episode w/o most or all of the Mane Eight in favor of lesser-known characters is automatically a bad thing. Execution factors into its quality, not who stars in it.

But these new characters are starting to look to me like freaking fanfic creations made by a group of writers before they were even hired to Hasbro.

His daughter has recorded as well. As usual, I have a different take than the OP. This is such a amazing thing for someone like me to see happen. Meredith is Patton's second wife. His daughter was from his first marriage. Patton is a widower and his wife died suddenly. I remember coming across his facebook post about his journey dealing with grief after his wife's death mere days after losing my own wife. To see that he was able to find love again and that they are rebuilding together with that love -- him, his daughter Alice, and his new love (the dual symbolic message of the shirt that Alice and Meredith are wearing doesn't escape me one bit), So they recorded an episode about family. I officially have an episode I am looking forward to.

All the Mane Six? Rainbow Dash was in Stranger than Fan Fiction, the episode of Patton Oswalt's character's debut.

Aaaaannnnnddddd with this information, I have more doubt than ever that it's going to suck purely based on it not having the Mane Six in it. Obviously, they don't need to be in every episode, and whether or not the creative team decides to have them in it or not is cool. The quality of an episode is determined by how much effort goes into it, and in light of these events, I feel they're going to be putting all of their heart and soul to try and make this episode the best they can possibly make it.

That's still an ugly reason to dislike an episode. They're created by people working on the show, and many of the characters featured are very well-done. Execution matters.

And seriously, can we stop the passive-aggressive implication that characters and stories made by fans are inherently inferior to the professional product? People, pros and amateurs alike, create because they have the passion. Sometimes that fanmade creation can be just as good as the professionals' themselves.

I'm just worried that if you guys keep being addicted to the new characters more than the main characters, you're eventually gonna be all:

"I DON'T WANT THE MANE SIX ON THIS SHOW ANY MORE!!! THEY ARE STUPID!!!"

And I know a few of you already think this way thanks to the additions of Starlight and the Student Six, and it hurts.

Dude; that's not gonna happen. The Mane 6 & Spike (and the CMC to a lesser extent) are the heart and soul of this series. While not everyone loves them; that's not due to other characters that have taken the spotlight recently; whether it's Starlight or the Student 6 or whoever else. Besides the aforementioned Mane 6 and Spike have had a lot of spotlight & development anyway. Nothing wrong with allowing others to do the same; nor is it bad to fall in love with those, if you will.

In addition, SoL came to life because of bronydom's series-long passion for background characters. The Mane Eight and CMCs are forever central to the series, but the background characters breathed life to bronydom's creations and enhanced the show's optimistic atmosphere.

Yeah, I believe EQD has posted that info either early or before S8. We know by now it will be an episode for S9. Since it's about family, I doubt Quibble Pants will appear, a character Mr Oswalt voiced previously

Either way, no matter what the Oswalt and Salenger episode is or anything I'm suggesting, I beg you, please don't ever say any of the following in my presence:

1. "I'm so sick of hearing about stupid-(deleted) Fluttershy! She is a freakin moron!"
2. "Pinkie Pie is a freaking idiot who whats her face just everywhere and the writers probably would think is a retard and they don't take stupid (deleted) ideas from people so let it go about it!"
3. "IF YOU ARE SO DARN OBSESSED WITH FLUTTERS & PINKIE, WHY DON'T YOU GET OUTTA HERE AND SETUP UP YOUR OWN GROUP INSTEAD OF SPOILING THIS ONE, YOU HORRIBLE PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING!?!"

Besides, I trust in the offical staff's writers rather than making a LOT of full MLP episode ideas, but still, I'm worried about the two characters I mentioned above.

Doesn't an issue like that deserve its own topic instead of veering off on a tangent in another thread about a largely unrelated matter?

The M6 will probably appear in the episode itself, but if the writers can construct the plot in a cohesive way (even with non-M6 characters) to feature other characters in a leading role, that's worth commendation.

I'd expect Rainbow Dash to be in it if nothing else. And I hope she is just to spite the OP.

 

For real though, they must be planning something pretty feelsy if they're bringing Patton's real life family into the mix. Looking forward to it.

dude, you don't get to worry about it. we are all in love with mane 6 and will always be the main characters. they will always be in the episodes, the previous episodes there was nothing wrong. everything is fine for the friendship.

@TwilySparky the mane 6 each of them in their episodes was the most interesting, they would focus more episodes in them. There is nothing bad.

But lately I've heard of people wanting a "new Mane Six" led by Starlight. That's what made me nervous.
