If you were in charge of creating a reboot/new generation of mlp what would your version be like And is there anything you would do differently?

"My Little Pony: Friendship Voyagers"

I had this idea several years ago...

Princess Celestia reveals that the castle in the Crystal Empire is actually the star-ship she and Luna came to Equestria in. Celestia, Cadence, and Shining Armor decide to gift this ship to Princess Twilight. Twilight and her friends become officers of the ship as they prepare to explore.

Twilight...Captain

Rainbow Dash..Advance scout.

Rarity..Designs and maintains the space-suit Rainbow wears while path-finding. Yes, Rainbow can fly in space with it! Can even perform the "Cosmic Star-Blast" while flying in it! (Faster than light!)

Applejack..Head of hydroponics, life support, and engineering.

Fluttershy..Resident expert on alien life forms,

Pinkie Pie..Morale officer

Derpy..It is discovered that her unique mind can mesh with that of the Friend SHIP. (GET IT?) She actually BECOMES the ship's mind  while meshed with it. Systems specialist.

Scootaloo..Ace pilot. She and Derpy together can fly the Friend SHIP anywhere!

The CMC collectively..Ambassadors and First Contact team.

Oh I got this...

  • All new main characters, including at least one prominent male
  • Focal character is an earth pony
  • More adventure episodes, and possibly an overall travel and discovery theme to the show
  • More zebras, deer, other hooved races, and sea ponies
  • A few more anthros, that way it's precedented when I bring back Catrina as a villain
  • More creatures from real mythology
  • Possible sprinkling of steampunk technology or magictek, at least in regions outside of this incarnation of Equestria
  • NO HUMANS

Do something set in the FIM equestria, but a few hundred or a thousand years later

Where we meet a older and more mature Twilight (though by no means old), who's trying to make new friends after hundreds of years mourning the deaths of the rest of the Mane 6 and everyone else she knew (apart from like Luna, Celestia, Cadance, Flurry, Discord and Spike)

It'll show how hard it is for her to make new friends with the knowledge that she would have to lose them eventually too.

I'd have it be a soft reboot of FiM, with the first three seasons already having taken place, with the following exceptions:

  • A Canterlot Wedding
  • The Crystal Empire
  • Keep Calm and Flutter On
  • Games Ponies Play
  • Just for Sidekicks
  • Magical Mystery Cure

No Shining Armor, Cadance, Crystal Empire, reformed Discord, or alicorn Twilight.

I'm not one of the people who has an issue with the later seasons (5 and 7 are my two favorite seasons), but they didn't have the same charm that the earlier seasons had (with some exceptions, such as Buckball Season, which could also be considered canon in this soft reboot since it could have easily taken place within the timeline of the first three seasons). I felt like that all started with A Canterlot Wedding. It would be nice to see what the show would have been like if it had kept the simplicity of the earlier seasons.

You know, I will always take the opposite side of the Bronies, just to compare how it actually would be from a business perspective:

Make MLP look ridiculous, like some trend that is accepted but not really good:
full.jpg

Toddlers love it because their parents buy the toys and they have the skills to see what the toys mean to their children. The simpler the design, the simpler the task for the parent to buy the toy.

Filter out what made FIM so popular among older men, and remove those features. Older men are not the target for the toys.

Maximize profit. Each new generation of MLP should bring more money back than the last one. Or at least the same.

So my reboot would probably not even be a reboot. Since so much revolves around friendship, which didn't help the selling of toys. That's why the MLP brand tries to remove the word Friendship as much s possible, even before G5.

Oh god, help me, I don't like the person I have become here!

While this could work OK as a fanfic thing, it would be veri confusing if applied to an official project. FIM is what it is - keeping continuitu with it can't be pic-and-mix, at least not for more than a gag show.

As for mi own idea... well, i have been thinking about this on and off for a while, but i've never come up with a great idea.

Best one I can think of right now is a stori centered on a human family who move to live in a pony town/countru. While the parents are human (at least one is a professional hairdresser), I'm not sure on their children, who will be the actual stars - human daughter? adopted pony daughter? both - or adopted pony son? if human, will she get an amulet or something that lets her turn into a pony?

in ani case, said children and their friend groups will be our protagonists. Manu of the stories will be similar slice-of-life ones to FIM, with the premise allowing for more focus on multicultural friendship and diversiti. But there will also be villains and more adventurous tales - perhpas a touch of misteri lie in mani good cartoons.

As for the aesthetic, it would still bi somewhat magical and whimsical (and with a lot of pink), but somewhat more modern and advanced than Equestria, with techno-magical devices common. No cars or planes, but trams, balloons and of course various pony-pulled transport.

Why do we accept reboots to begin with?

Why are reboots so important to you?

Why can't we just get a completely new thing, something interesting and unique, the way FIM was?

If I did a reboot, it wouldn't consist of one, but two separate shows.

The first show would be just like the one we have, an episodic, slice of life oriented series meant to build the characters. The second show would be a serialized, adventure oriented series where the characters face villains. The latter show would have a self contained plot in each season.

Way back in season one, episodes one and two, I was a bit disappointed that the battle to save Celestia from Nightmare Moon wasn't a season long story arc.

i don't think a zero-daylight season would work, specially not the first...

The standard Disney live action reboot formula.

Equestria Girls movie except the ponies are in Sonic the Hedgehog/Detective Pikachu style.. or maybe make it with cgi ponies like in Mowgli. Or maybe just make it like in that Tarzan movie where animals didn't talk.

I guess it is because when done right a reboot can be the same but also something new at the same time maybe similar story but told in a new way with different animation styles or art styles or it could take the story to a whole new place G4 of mlp would never exist if nobody decided to reboot it.

Not sure I want to see a FiM reboot. Previous gens have not really tried to retread the same ideas, they have usually reimagined the concept (which is really how we ended up with FiM in the first place)

Maybe they could go with another common trope - talking animals that humans can't understand, that actually have a highly advanced society that protects and guides the poor, dumb humans that can't be left to fend for themselves....

The reboot should be about actual ponies that potential riders want to buy so they can all say “I love my little pony” :yay:

Then finally the “My Little” part of “My Little Pony” would make sense.

It was a good reboot because it managed me to not think of it as a reboot. Good job!

When I think reboot, I think the same concept, same stories, same characters.... But just redone (for the purpose of redoing it, not to make it a new thing)

That can be a five parter instead.

Also, a theatrical film can be released every year. Episodes like Return of Harmony, A Canterlot Wedding, The Crystal Empire, and Twilight's Kingdom can be films. What I'd do in the beginning of FiM season 2 is introduce Shining Armor and Cadence as they visit Twilight to announce their wedding.

I would have so this reboot's Royal Sisters won't get shafted so much. Like no worf effect
Maybe have this Princess Luna join the team like with the whole "6th ranger" part and develop.

Touching more on the themes of darkness and how anything regardless of light or darkness is capable of good and evil.

And also treating that version's Spike much better and probably even be Luna's assistant/close friend and be with the group properly.

First off, FiM WAS a reboot.

Second, it was widely popular because it was the first time in a long time any real effort went into the characters of a My Little Pony cartoon.

I don't know that I'd necessarily call my idea a reboot, in the sense that I wouldn't be remaking the show.  But we could do something similar to Dragonball Super, where we have a series that takes place after the second to last episode, but before the time skip.  Then we would be free to do just about anything we wanted to do (I suspect this was originally the plan when they were going to do a movie at the end of the series).  Maybe we retcon the last episode, or maybe it still fits with the new addition to the canon.

As for the plot, well it could pretty much be anything or use any of the characters and villains from the show that remained.  We have three petrified villains who could somehow be un-petrified, and then want revenge on Discord for making fools out of them.  I imagine it would be an outside force that would be a new villain of some kind.  Maybe she's the ultimate force behind all of the evil beings that have shown up in the show.

And let's make her fearsome.  Like, we're going full Sailor Galaxia here.  Make her powerful enough to outfight the entire cast, even when they're powered up by their MacGuffins.  I'm not saying to have her win in the end, but she should get her reputation of being a threat by how much it takes to bring her down.  The Elements of Harmony and Rainbow Powers aren't enough, and it will take far more than that to stop this threat.

Dragon Ball Super was such a odd show. Most of it was just the moves told over again. A lot of wasted potential. Not really a reboot. But as you said, it was a way to continue the story. However, G5 will be in a different style. They ended Season 9 for a reason, because there were no more interesting stories to be told.

So much Toei Animation wanting to cash in on all the DBZ fans there were still active after 20 whatever years. Hasbro doesn't seem to value their fans.... It was DHX and the show's staff that did most of the nods to the fans.
