who's the main character after twilight?

Many audiences would prefer protagonists that they can relate to or look up to, that are strong either inside and/or out, or would demonstrate how to be a better person using character development throughout the series. Twilight isn't too relatable, but she acts strong and goes through character development. But which of her friends is similar to the preferred protagonist?

My answer is Fluttershy. Once the cute pony attracts certain audiences, whether it's shy kids who instantly relate to her demeanor or little girls who just think she's adorable (or even still bronies), when the character gradually becomes a better person the audience may do so too. The more she develops the more we look up to her and the tighter we would cling to the show, waiting for what lesson she'll overcome next.

Spoiler

That is, if she was written better. :sealed:
The level or percent or tone of personality given to a character affects the diversity and/or population of the audience or the character's fans. While I think Fluttershy would make a good protagonist, she's also my least favorite out of the mane 6 due to her lack of personality (in my honest opinion). It may be common for a shy or introverted character to feel lacking, but when they speak up you need to keep their intended personality level in mind. If a usually shy character was to suddenly yell, boast about something or eagerly bounce around, the audience or fans may become uncomfortable or bewildered.
Which is why Twilight is the original protagonist for FIM. We get to know her and get a good idea of her character right off the bat during the very first episode, and she remains that way even after becoming princess.

I would say Rainbow Dash did the rainboom so because of that I want to put her as the second main character. BUT

Pinkie Pie I find to be the driving force for writing in alot of the episodes that aren't specifically about her where RD is just texture.

However, only in seasons 1-5. Tho for the most part I think the show is pretty balanced after Twilight.

Season 6 the main character is Starlight and Twilight is secondary.

Season 7 Starlight is secondary and Twilight is main.

Season 8 and 9 I'd say the student 6 are the second main character altogether.

The movie I'd say Twilight then Tempest.

I would say Fluttershy. And then Starlight.

Fluttershy has had the most interesting development outside Twilight and she's a very popular pony. Also Celestia has kinda entrusted her with missions and lessons directly more than the others. :kindness:

Starlight is obvious that she took Twilight's role later on. Not mad at all about that, she's awesome :glimmer: (couldn't find a better Starlight emote)

Now I do think the show tries to have the rest of the mane five even with each other, but would probably have to say Rainbow dash. This is mainly based off of both her amount of screen-time and advertising. Rainbow Dash is like a symbol for the show (and the fandom). She's used in much of the advertising, and her "coolness" factor appeals to the audiences. This in turn gives her an important role in the main cast. I would also say Pinkie is also up there. Her crazy and upbeat attitude makes her a fun character. Just look at the MLP Movie; Twilight, Rainbow, and Pinkie got way more screen time than the other three.

I agree, and they even got their own song with their new friends, unlike the other 3 (well i guess twilight had a song)

I think it's Applejack. She's basically Twilight's second in command who keeps the others from going too crazy.

Yeah, the lack of screen-time given to half of the mane six was probably my biggest gripe with the MLP movie. They could've at least tried to give all the main characters an opportunity.

Hm... Pinkie Pie is the closest to being the second most important Mane 6 pony in my opinion.

Out of all the Mane 6, she was the one to have the biggest role aside from Twilight in the 2017 film; she had a lot of screen time compared to the others and was the pony Twilight fought with after the seapony ordeal. She got her own "Hello Pinkie Pie" web series on YouTube. And she kind of seems like the main character in Pony Life.

Looking forward to many years of fun and friendship with our new ponies.
We'll do our part, hoof to heart.

Sprout is best pony!

This has always been an ensemble show. Even in the early seasons I wouldn't say Twilight was the main character. Every season at least tried to balance the episode focus between all of the mane six, Spike, and then the new guys later on. Yeah Twilight was in every episode in season 1, but she had very minor roles in some of those episodes or co-starred with some other characters.
