I don’t think I would have liked it so much. It state our beloved Mane 6 would have been shoved away. With this new cast means they are fondly remembered, instead of retconing. It’s interesting earth pony Twi, pegasus Pinkus, and Unicornshy tho

I think G5 should have cut out all ties to G4 including the name Equestria for their world, so I would not have liked the show to just be a reboot with the same characters slightly modified. That would have messed up G4 more than ever (after already been morphed into Pony Life, and Equestria Girls)

I much prefer how they went with the new characters instead, though I actually like the idea of Earth Pony Twilight, who became Sunny, and Unicorn Fluttershy, who became Izzy.

I don’t know. It would’ve taken a lot to get used to. People like me who especially love the Mane Six as they are will definitely have a hard time adjusting to that.

On the right hand, it would be great to see them again but it would also be jarring to see them be so different. I’m also glad that the Mane Six as we know them really existed in the world of G5. I want to see them again as we know and love them.

I think it could've been interesting. Nothing will replace FIM, but a different take on the characters/story/lore could've worked. 

 

I remember reading about those original G5 leaks and they were also talking about a more serious tone.

I wouldn't have liked it – having a character with the same name and appearance as an earlier one but not truly being the same character would feel pointless to me. It would just add to the inevitable comparisons between G4 and G5.

New ponies in the same universe was what I wanted from G5 (as it was obvious everything couldn't stay the same), and so far it looks like my wish came true.

It's an interesting concept, but I prefer what we got. It would've been way too confusing and a bit weird to have the same characters we know, but slightly different. We've had more than enough comparisons between G4 and G5 as it is, so had they went with this, everyone would constantly be trying to compare it with FiM throughout its lifespan.

If that was G5, I doubt it would have lasted very long. It seems like it would have been a half-hearted attempt at recycling G4 and trying to pass it off as a new thing. It's better that we got an all-new generation with all-new characters.

I think that it would have been kind of strange to see some of the mane six characters "change species" I guess. (Not sure if that's the correct way to word it.) Also, how similar would they be to the G4 characters? Too similar and it would seem quite strange to call it a new generation, too different and it would seem quite strange for them to be reusing characters. I think what they did for G5 was right in using a new cast of characters.

I think it could've been good if it were well-thought-out.  I actually wrote a fanfic where these exact tribe-swaps happened (good luck finding it on fanfiction.net; I called it "Brand New Day", which is the name of a lot of fanfics!), and I ended up concluding that it was a quite feasible concept.

...For a fanfiction.  For a canon work, there's a chance it would blow up in their faces, seeing as how it'd be reusing older characters, essentially.
