the G4 characters will NOT be returning in G5

I heard this from a discord user who is the staff partner at Hasbro. She said none of the G4 characters are not gonna return.

I never believed they would return outside of flashbacks/force ghost stuff, so this really wouldn't come as a surprise to me. However, I don't mean to throw shade, but evidence like this is easy to doctor. If you can verify that this friend is a partner with Hasbro, it would make this news more credible.

Regardless of whether this is legitimate, I would be mildly content with the idea that G4 characters will not be returning. The reason I wouldn't be moderately or fully content is because I think that there are plenty of opportunities to be had where at least one or two G4 characters return.

Also, I highly doubt that no G4 characters whatsoever would return. Even if this was a legitimate staff member or Hasbro partner, I would doubt their idea that no G4 characters would be returning depending on their position as a staff member or Hasbro partner. If it was a writer, then I'd be more convinced. If it was someone like a voice actor, or a Hasbro partner who has only a small relation with Hasbro, I'd be more skeptical.

Oh yeah, and I also misspoke a little in my original post, I was mostly thinking of the Mane 6. Absolutely no G4 characters returning at all, I'd also be somewhat skeptical of that even if someone actually working on the show (people on the show staff have made mistakes before) were to say that.

Provided this isn't BS, I don't necessarily have a huge issue with this. Regardless of actual physical appearances, I'm pretty sure that there will be references at the very least, so it won't be treating G4 like it never happened. I do think it would be neat to have one familiar face at the very least or a cameo, but it's not a huge dealbreaker for me if that doesn't happen. That said, no offense OP, but the credibility of this is questionable.

It's probably best to take this with a grain of salt until we can get a stronger verification of authenticity. I'm not saying this information is false but it would be nice to have some additional context otherwise this could get taken the wrong way and become very ugly.

Regarding my own thoughts, I wouldn't be surprised if the G4 characters don't return. Their time has come and gone now so now the new characters must stand on their own and provide whatever form of entertainment they can muster up.

This may be a good decision. Especially, considering the direction g5 is taking so far. I am still neutral. But it is not looking promising. Now, people should keep asking them about the mane six. That would be pretty funny. Just pester them. "Yeah, yeah, but what about the mane six?", "Is applejack gonna return? She is my favorite!". Okay, now that is going a little too far. But you know what I mean.

Regardless of whether or not this is a reliable source, If the G4 characters didn't return in G5, I honestly wouldn't mind it too much.  They have had 9 seasons, and multiple spinoffs worth of screentime.  I think it is more than fair at this point to pass the torch onto the new main cast.  If any of the characters from FiM would return I would rather it be characters like Celestia or even an older version of Spike and for them to be used as more of mentor figures to guide and help the mane 5 grow and develop more than anything else.

This may be the case now, but it could very well change if G5 continues for long enough. Like, G4 originally wasn't supposed to have a 4th season, but it did. And they used the 4th season's finale to reboot a G1 villain (Tirek). Give it time.

If the source is actually true, then I'm okay with it. It would be nice if some the G4 characters in G5, but it was probably for the best since I want G5 to be its own thing. Otherwise, we'll be watching the same show from the previous generation.

Exactly. G5 has to be its own thing and not ride on the coattails of G4.

We should be thankful that the Mane Six had one last hurrah at the beginning of 'A New Generation'. That alone tells me the torch has been passed and the G5 cast have received it thus they must carve out their own place in the world.

If the source is legitimate, then this is probably the best direction G5 can take. As great as FIM is, G5 needs to also stand out on its own. ANG's entire purpose is to prove that the Mane Five can live up to the legacy that the Mane Six began millennia ago. Sunny Starscout, herself, embodies their mission. Reintroducing the Mane Six carries the risk of them overshadowing the M5.

Aside from the source being anonymous, this is the most suspicious part. I can expect, perhaps, an appearance from Discord, Celestia, Luna, Cadance, Flurry Heart, Smolder, the Terrible Trio (if their statue's still intact), etc. Spike's presence may overshadow the group. But nobody from G4? Not so sure.

I honestly saw this coming.

 

In my opinion, this is the sensible path, the Mane 6 and other's stories and character developments are complete, so continuing to use them as main character would lead to nothing but meaninless stories, and a general disservice to their character.

 

I will very much miss them however, but I'm glad this was the desision that was made.

 

I do however, want to see continued references to g4, like in the g5 movie.
