What do you love about MLP and its fandom?

I just want to see why people think My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic is so good.

I like MLP: FiM because not only has it got good humor, good artwork and likeable characters, but compared to some of the stupid cartoons us kids get nowdays (I'm 11) MLP stands out like a piece of chocolate in waves of moldy fruit.

or you could just say

I think one of the great things about MLP is that it doesn't patronise its audience like a lot of other children's shows do. The animation is also excellent and it has some genuinely funny moments. It also has at least one character that every viewer can relate to.

I don't know about everyone else, but I started watching because of the beautiful character-designs and KEPT watching because the characterization is so deep and unpredictable. I remember looking the show up on TVtropes and unlocking the character-charts; I was surprised right away. Just the fact that Twilight, the most un-sugary-looking pony of the whole bunch (straight hair, dusty purple, shy expression, etc.) is the head of the mane characters peeked my interests. It's just so well thought out and 100% stereotype-free.

Pretty much everything everyone else said. A lot of cartoons now are very patronizing, so it's awesome to see something that isn't. The art style and character design are a big part of what drew me to the series, though. I also love adorable things with the undying passion of a thousand suns, so that might have had a tiny influence on me. On a more personal note, I also really like the fact that there's a mostly female cast. That doesn't happen often in media, much less popular media.

I think part of the reason it's so popular with the demographic it is, though, is because of the many references to older cartoons and geekdom in general. Then there Lauren Faust who was involved in Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends both of which were really popular.

In summary: Ponies are awesome because ponies are awesome.

I started watching it ironically, I didn't think it would be any good. Then, I found myself falling in love with the animation. and then I realize I was actually laughing at funny moments, feeling sad at sad moments, and being surprised at times. Kids' show or not, it's a good show, and it has a depth in it that most shows don't, even the ones for adults. The voice acting is great, the animation (like I said) is just amazing, and even the storyline, while simple, is compelling enough that it draws me in.

Oh, I also just realized one more thing, reading Katrilli's post:

I think the show won me over, when a happy event made me cry. Celestia and Luna being reunited at the end of the pilot two-parter made me shed happy-tears like no cartoon has done in a long, long time. Such a simpel event, such a huge impact. They really know their stuff, them writers. <3

Of course all of the above, but another big point I see is that everyone has a little bit of each of the mane 6's personality in them. Everyone has a favorite pony of course, but I myself can relate to each one and realize I have traits that resemble the main trait in each of the mane. This perception lets the audience really get into the episode and see it from a "point of view" of each of the characters, being in their shoes and in a "what would I do in that situation" mentality, and lets us really get enveloped in the story.

At first, I thought I was going to hate it, but after watching a few eiposdes, I loved it! Great writing, fluid animation (albeit a few errors), and geat singing/voice acting. There's also plenty of humor that'll just sail over the target audiences' heads.

I've always loved Point of View types episodes where they take one problem or scenario and show it differently for each and every pony it involves in, and MLP:FiM has quite a few of these episodes.

Another thing it doesn't rely on "grime humor" like many cartoon have done in recent years, shows that show every snot covered hair on granny's mustache, that kind of stuff.

Another thing is they don't shove social "norms" down your throats like "Men should be this way because pain is good for you" or "Women should like this particular thing because it's frilly" and crap like that.

I like it because it's a "Slice-of-life" kind of show, from which everyone could learn one or two things and try to exercise them in real-life.

I agree, I went through the exact same process, I didn't start watching it until the week before season 2 even started! (kind of ironic after I watch all 26 season one episodes in a week I am up on Saturday to see episode 1 of season 2)...almost a year after the show originally aired.

In other cartoons shows the characters don't recollect experiences from previous (like Fluttershy recalling Pinkie Pie's solution from Dragonshy in a later episode) episodes and the characters aren't dimwitted (which is a relief, considering over 80% of cartoons I'd seen in the past 10 years, even the best ones, have someone with only a mere nut in their head).

Anyway, what I mostly like is that the show is well balanced. Pinkie Pie helps provide zany wild humor and traditional antics. Twilight begins more and more to understand the sentiment behind the objective Celestia had given her and more! Other cartoons are satirical so they can come off as TOO crude and allow personal opinion to folly the lesson the writers were trying to portray (some shows on certain unnamed networks) and some have very forced humor. This show has my favorite type: a combination of zane and situational humor. :P

It's the only show I can watch without minding the commercials.

I'm not sure either why I love this show so much... Other than Rarity.

One thing the show actually does well is show a lot of emotions really well. If they are excited, they are excited and you know it.

I can't be the only one who almost cried in Party of One when Pinky's hair flattened when she thought her friends were abandoning her... :P

I know what you guys mean. Remember in the return of harmony part 2 when all the characters were transitioned into their opposite? I could honestly see Twilight's frustration and irritation enveloping, including with Fluttershy becoming... you know.

I liked how when AppleJack lied, she did that odd face, as if she was conscience of having her personality turned distraught. I also thought it was cold when AppleJack told Spike (in her distraught form) that he brought out the worse in them. The episode made me laugh, but it made me want them to return to normal. This is something I wish I could also care, about in all other cartoons, frankly. ;)

On another note, did anyone else notice in the that episode that Applejack was the one pony (besides Twilight) to remember her actions when she turned gray?
