Why do people think Trixie is nice?

Im not trying to be offensive at all, but I mean, Trixie was MADE in the show to be mean. Of course anybody could become nice or be nice on the inside but why Trixie? I dont see many people saying Gilda is nice of Diamond Tiara is nice, but I still see people saying Trixie is nice. And for people that think she has to do that to get money or something, its not like she has to be mean to be a magician...

 

(Btw, I dont mean why do people like trixie. I can see how you could like her. I mean, I like Discord. Just, im not saying hes nice or anything)

I don't think anybody thinks she is nice, I don't think that. And honestly I have no idea why I like Trixie, I guess because she looks awesome?

The characters in the show are much more dynamic than characters of other shows, this being a character driven show and all. It's not like Fairly Odd Parents where someone like Trixie (no, not the pony) is shown to be spoiled and bratty, and fits the stereotype of a rich girl fairly well. In FIM, characters are presented with human traits, each with their weaknesses which complement their strengths, much like a real live human being.

 

You probably know how braggarts are in real life - they boast, they talk trash quite a bit, and are extremely conceited - but when the going gets tough or they're faced with a tough task, they falter and don't live up to the hype. They get nervous, and fall apart. That was seen in Trixie, whom afterwards was shown to be genuinely nervous and unsure of herself after bragging herself away during her shows (all while humiliating some of the Mane 6). All in all, you can either feel sympathy for her as she somewhat owned up to her faults, because that's the only time where she was truly vulnerable, or you can express a dislike of her because she failed to live up to expectations that she brought upon herself - granted, these are two options you can choose to follow given they're both natural human reactions - that said, the entirety of Ponyville (except Twilight) ended up disliking Trixie - unsurprisingly.

 

If you manage to recognize Trixie's faults and see that she was truly unsure of herself, you can end up liking her - it's not that hard, you just have to get past her antics and all.

I like her voice and stuff, and her appearance is better than alot of other ponies in the show. And she's The Great and Powerful Trixie.

I suppose it is personal preference. I don't really like her, but then, there are people who don't like Rainbow Dash. It's all down to personal preference. Why is * insert favourite pony name here* your favourite pony? It's the same reason why people like Trixie.

She probably is nice. But her showmare title probably has to put kindness aside to look good. Trixie was just being a show off(albeit in a cruel way). She uses things like lies and showing off to make herself look better. It's just for fame and glory. If she were to come back in a future episode being nice and begging for forgivness, I wouldn't be surprised.

I never said that she was nice. I said that she "could be" nice. When you are in a show, most presenters will take on an over-confident and arrogant attitiude to make themselves look better. Because they are good at what they do, they'd usually take that attitude for the sake of their fame, even if that fame is mostly annoyance and hatred. Off the stage, she could probably be a very kind pony with friends that support her on and off stage. I'm not saying that this is true, but there's the possibility that it could be.

I won't say she was nice, but you tell me, was she mean? She didn't make anypony cry (not at her show at least) unlike a certain gryphon I know...so she showed off a bit - so she humiliated a couple of ponies. Did they not have it coming to them? I mean, come on - they got their feathers riled up about a showpony doing her job at a FREE show, so they wanted to humiliate her. They got humiliated instead. (If you ask me, THAT should have been the lesson of the episode, but I digress.) What was Trixie supposed to do? Let herself be humiliated? Yeah, because that would make for a fantastic show. No, instead, she kept up her act pretty professionally and made most of Ponyville laugh and cheer, and generally enjoy themselves. Well - that's pretty nice, isn't it? Perhaps she wasn't intending to be nice - no, I think she was just keeping up her act - but her crowd thoroughly enjoyed it. Twilight's friends, however, took her show, her act, way too seriously - and two little foals were guilty of the very same crime, albeit in a different way...but ah well, that's a story for another time.

 

EDIT: On the other hand, she could also be seen as mean in that she was purposely taunting the audience, asking if anypony dared challenge her greatness - but once again, it's her job to put on a good show. If that happens to be her way of doing it, so be it. Perhaps if Twilight's friends had thought it through a little more, they would have realized it was part of her act - and still challenged her, of course, but with a different mindset...and not ended up so butthurt angry.

Nice is pretty much the worst "good trait" to ask about with Trixie. No, she isnt nice. She is kind of demanding -- like a lot of actors. She does like pleasing an audience but she has too much public ego to hide her private lack of ego. But when the chips are down she will make a stand. Trixie has a lot of potential for good or ill and beyond her faults, she is a likable character.

Anyways, Trixie is a far more mysterious character than she seems. Too many people say "Oh, she said "I am the greatest equine who ever lived." Therefore, she is immediately an uber-narcissist." Sure, she is extremely arrogant during her performance. But then look at her interactions with S&S after the show. She is far less arrogant. In the third stage of the episode, the Ursa attack, Trixie abandons all her arrogance.

 

It is clear, upon careful review of "Boast Busters", that Trixie's arrogance decreased as the importance of public opinion about her decreased. When she was trying to present herself to ponies, she was very arrogant; when she was offstage talking with ponies she was less so; and when the town was being destroyed and public opinion didn't matter, she wasn't at all narcissistic. This clearly shows that Trixie was acting during her show: She did not honestly believe the things she said about herself. Now it is debatable whether she thought ponies would buy her story or whether she was trolling them with over the top hyperbole.

 

As for "nice-ness", what have we seen of her so far? We've seen few non-professional social interactions involving Trixie. But consider what we do know:

*She put on a show for the entire town, free of charge.

*Some ponies disliked the show and actively tried to boo Trixie offstage.

*Trixie calls those ponies on stage. They agree, trying to upstage her, but Trixie humiliates them.

*Trixie talks with S&S. She seems to view the two colts as somewhat annoying, but doesn't strongly show it.

*The Ursa attacks the town. Trixie stands before the bear and contemplates fighting it (being one of only two ponies in the town to not run) before realizing that illusion magic is useless for this type of situation.

*Trixie acts pretty normally immediately after the attack in her exclamations about how the Ursa was revealed to be a baby. Her last line is of somewhat praise to Twilight.

*Twilight/the Ponyvillians make no effort to return Trixie's abandoned belongings.

 

What does that prove? Nothing. She did some "nice" things and some "not nice" things. We don't know enough about Trixie to really make many statements about her. Problem is, Trixie was presented as an opponent to the main character. Too many Bronies immediately assume that she is evil incarnate because she was presented as a rival to the main character. Trixie (and perhaps Howard Stern) is the only person/pony/being that can be publicly hated in the community. Season Three will put an end to the mystery and finally resolve these disputes (I hope).

However, she was a character in the show created for the purpose of teaching Twilight (and the viewers) a lesson about humility. It's great to have talent but there is absolutely no need to boast about it.

Okay, onto the serious debate, I really do't know why people like her so much but she doesn't deserve all the hate she gets. I mean, she's just trying to make a living out of magic which is probably pretty tough considering about 1 in 3 ponies can use magic already. She has to spice up her show a little. I do not agree with how she did it (openly humiliating characters) but I do see her fucked up legitimate reasoning behind it.

I don't think I have personally heard anyone call her nice, but her scheme isnt all that bad to look at. I don't like her myself in anyway, but there can be other reasons for people to think she is nice other than literally being nice to others.

IMO people look down on arogant too much. Yea there are headstrong people in this world, but headstrong doesn't instantly mean evil, bad, or any of the other labels. I've had some really good friend who are arogant as hell, but you know what? I would trust my life to them because I know while they are headstrong they still look out for their own.

 

Now as to why Trixie has fans? I don't know. Why does Octavia, Derpy, Luna, Vinyl, etc. have any fans? Because someone likes the art design or the personality. That's that.
