Overrated/Underrated Characters?

Underrated: Rarity (She's an interesting character, but a lot of people don't seem to like her despite the fact that she is well written)

Overrated: Mainly Discord, a bland Q rip-off who's instead of intelligent, is just a child that does random things. Also, he's pretty annoying and he can't be considered a threat, I mean, come on. HOW DO YOU FIND CHOCOLATE RAIN INTIMIDATING?!

 

Underrated: Lavan, from G1. This guy right here is an awesome bastard. He surfs on a lava Tsunami, kidnaps ponies, almost throws them into a Volcano and becomes indestructible.

 

Sadly he died exploding into a billion pieces.

Overrated: Luna, of course, but also Twilight Sparkle. She's maybe the most popular pony, but the recent episodes about her (Twilight Time...) were quite bad.

 

Underrated: Trixie needs more love. Rarity isn't that popular (but more than before, which is understandable because she was amazing in the season 4), Cadance and Shining Armor.

Underrated: Overrated backround pony #1(derpy), overrated backround pony #2(octavia), the poor woman's disney princess (fluttershy), and luna. I'm sorry, I couldn't think of a witty nickname for luna. I can't think of a character in the show that's underrated.

Personally I think Angel Bunny is overrated, but I only want to say that because he's a dick.

 

There's a number of characters that I think are underrated, but apart from Applejack and Princess Luna I'd have to say that Coco Pommel is quite underrated considering that I expected her to make another major appearance in the season after...

...Rarity gave her a job role in the end of Rarity Takes Manehattan.

Overrated: Princess Luna. I do like her, but I'd rather see more focus on Princess Celestia. Tia is much more interesting and has more potential than what Lulu has. -3-

 

Underrated: Silver Shill. xP Fans either don't remember him or call him a poor man's Coco Pommel, but I liked his motives with the Flim Flam Brothers. Unlike Coco Pommel, he didn't show any reluctance with helping Flim and Flam until the end of the episode. Plus, his big glasses make him look cute. x)

I will definitely say Trixie is the most overrated. Besides her so-called "magical abilities" and her arrogrance there is really nothing much to like about this character, save for maybe her name and design. This is a character so thin with such little real development potential that all the writers could do was just send her off after an apparent "redemption" -- twice. Adding to that, the time she came back in "Magic Duel", her personality had to be altered from arrogant, foolish, and misguided to outright evil in order to carry the episode. Real solid character there.

 

I'm tempted to call Gilda underrated because of the sheer irrationality of hating a character that's basically 80% similar to the previously mentioned "fan favorite". I really think the love for Trixie must come from Equestria Daily head Sethisto's repeated posts on his waifu status for her.

 

Ironically, I find Diamond Tiara to be the most underrated. Much of the supporting characters of Crusaders episodes are yearning for stronger development so they can take on new roles in their episodes. Like Snips and Snails, DT and Silver Spoon are stereotypical characters based on the well-known archetype of the rich and popular girl as the bully and attention craver with spinless lackeys. Unlike Snips and Snails, who are irredeemable because the stereotype is the sole definition of their characters, DT really has some development potential. If her plans to grab attention and fame continually backfire on her, why not have her learn from it? Will she one day wise up and realize that there's really more to life than what she's trying to get out of it? How does she see Silver Spoon, and how would the loss of Silver Spoon as a friend affect her personally and socially? What do her name and cutie mark really mean? What is her special talent and how did she get her mark? Does she even remember it, or was she too caught up in the social aspect to truly notice what it really means?

Over Rated: Twilight

So Twilight is a ok cannon with some flaws and such but is now

a pretty princess and had no caring till the last two eps of season 4

in which she goes all "What do I do?"  Than a evil bad guy shows up,

gets super powers and saves the day!

 

 

Under Rated: Spike

So how is it when when Tirek captured Twilights friend,  we had

no spike?  Given all he does for her from keeping things clean, paper work,

getting food and having been by her from day one he is always put

in as the humor scape ?  I feel kinda bad for him....

Underrated: For me, the royal guards. I don't know, I just feel like there's so much backstory waiting to be told for them (though I'm guessing lots of fanfics already cover that ground). It'd be cool if we got to see more of them besides just standing around guarding the princesses (which we kinda do see in Rarity Investigates!).

Underrated: Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Gilda (Ironically, my three favorite characters of the show are the most underrated xd.)

Underrated: I would say Applejack is the most underrated of the mane 6.

I never really thought about it before popping into this thread but I would also agree with all the posts here about Gilda being underrated.

 

Overrated: Luna I adore her but am self aware enough to see how some fans can get carried away.

And Derpy. Derpy Hooves is absolutely the most overrated character within the franchise.

Oh wow, did I seriously thought that Silver Shill was a good character? x)

 

Anyways, I find Marble Pie to be ridiculously overrated. Sure, she has a really great character design, but her personality is just so boring. We've seen Fluttershy and Coco Pommel do it so much better as they both have goals and stories to share. All Marble does is say "mmhmm" and exist as Ship Tease between her and Big Macintosh. (which is a ship i don't really like all that much anyway.) There are a couple of other characters I find overrated, but Marble is the first one that comes into mind.

 

On the subject of the Pie family though, I think that Limestone Pie is pretty underrated. Some people dislike her for how nasty she is, but I love her for that reason. She is so devoted into taking care of Boulder's Holder to the point where she thinks that anybody outside of her home is out to harm the family and take away the boulder. It's both hilarious and more interesting to watch compared to Marble's interactions with other ponies. Oh, and Limestone has an adorable character design. I just love her punk-ish haircut!
