What are your thoughts on Equestria Daily?

I can agree with the first paragraph. Especially since it's the page even the MLP crew reads from time to time (or at least so I've been told). But er...what do you mean by "Duped a little too much by false reports"... I kind of don't get that .

 

They've been fooled by false news because they hurried up and wanted to be the first to report it. Then when the source or the report is found to be false, Seth or w/e has to backpedal and apologize for believing it and reporting it.

Plus, I kind of have my hands full, as I have 40 more videos to make. And that's about 5 or 6 hours of rendering I have to do. Then I have to upload all of them and assign them to playlists on my Youtube.

 

I probably won't be getting back to this subject, because I've been swamped with making these 110 videos the last two and a half days.

 

Busy man, I see. Okay, fine by me ! You go and do that before you start procrastinating or something. And I know procrastinating sucks .

Personally I don’t mind EQD. It was the first place I went when I first started watching MLP.

 

 

On the plus side, I like "Drawfriends" I don’t have to go to places like Deventart or KYM to search through hundreds of the more "exotic" artworks to find good work

 

 

I'm neutral towards the news aspect. while it may not be 100% accurate, most of it doesn’t pertain to my interests. I take from it what I want and toss the rest.

 

 

As far as the pre-readers. I'll agree with those who've had bad experiences with them. I submitted a short story one time to a PR and he about tore it apart publicly on Ponychan and was "not nice" about it in the e mails I got from him either.

 

 

But I don’t hold that against EQD. It's like anything else, you have to take it with a grain of salt. Is it perfect? No. Could it be better? Yes. Will I stop going there? Eventually, but I haven't found a good enough reason to cross that bridge yet.

They have once declined showing at least one MLP fan art that got a Daily Deviation one time. Not sure if there are more, but I can safely say it has happened at least once. Pretty interesting to see how people can have different tastes in art, isn't it?

I didn't know there was this elitist gripe with EQD. Though I suppose that anything that grows enough will fall prey to that trap.

 

As for what I think of the site: I think it's good though I believe they could stand to do with some better journalists. Their information always seems to be reactive as opposed to proactive. One would think that they have their feelers deep enough into the pony machine to be able to come up breaking news reports aplenty.

(sigh) I don't know if you read some of the previous comments about this, but I would like to know what do you think about this particular thing I said, on the inital post. Has EQD bias? Apparently so, because I really don't know anything about that particular subject. Should they be biased? No, no news/media site ever should be. Is it easy NOT being biased when the site is big and the community you take it from is big? That's where the problem sits. EQD is huge by now, there are a LOT of things per day to check, and I don't think there's a LOT of people running EQD. So I can't say it must be easy to go through the sites, then have to choose from, and then select the best, let alone when they could be afraid of what people wants to read/see. I will agree that, apparently, there is a lot of irregularity in the pre-readers (I haven't sent something to that EQD...yet), and they need to gather a new, more neutral and regular team of pre-readers. EQD, despite the fact on featuring so many horrible fics, I have to appreciate the comic section. I usually spend hours flipping through old comics and getting a laugh or inspiration for a fic. The music they feature is rad too, and I have to admit they are on-top of the newz.

Trust me, Equestria Daily isn't elitist. I've seen elitist sites, and that isn't one of them. All it does is post news about FiM or FiM-related products, and they approve almost all of the user-created content that shows up there. The only times I've really heard of them NOT approving something is if it was either NSFW, or if it was similar to something they already had on the site. So if you're talking about people claiming that EQD is elitist because they sent in content that didn't get approved, that's probably why it wasn't approved.

Well normally, the news site there is probably one of the first things you can get, not to mention that they have what you would call an archive of "greatest hits", according to THEIR opinion, of art, music, and fics that keeps getting bigger and bigger. They also tend to feature comics, have compilation for plushies and customs as much as the art and such, and the nightly roundups are, well, roundups that get some news out of media, sucesful brony meetups, a bit of new pony merch, and other stuff. Whatever is more important gets its own post. Also, they have as well PMV's, ponified trailers, and normal animations and flashes. It's one "we have it all" site. Whether you like what is there or not is up to you.

 

If you would like to get other stuff, then maybe you could check Derpy Hooves News, which is similar to EQD but it CAN feature stuff EQD doesn't, this I know because I visit both, and if you want a more news only site, The Round Stable is probably your best shot, as they feature news only, and sometimes feature interviews they do, as well as intresting articles regarding either stuff of the fandom, the fandom itself, or the show itself, including the crew. Does that help you on your choice?

It's okay. Nothing special, but I've found some interesting stuff on EQD--mostly news tidbits or pieces of music. I guess I don't need to visit the place much, since most of the important stuff is mentioned here anyway.

Why can't we just accept the fact that EQD is EQD? Who cares? We aren't on there, EQD isn't "attacking" us, so why this hate topic?

 

I have learned from experience that when you basically oust out a forum/site like this, it can really bite you in the ass later. We should really bury the hatchet and just accept them as a genuine brony blog, even if some of you think they are a bit over-zealous.

I have a friend that makes pony wallpapers and he has told me that they have become irregular with their wallpaper complications for some reason and don't post them much so him and other artists started their own Equestria Digital on tumbler where they showcase all kinds of digital artwork from different artists and have a handy way to browse though all the different wallpapers while still giving credit to the artist by having them visit the deviantart page. They would have had to have been fairly annoyed with EQD and the way they run things to go and start their own site themselves so I think that speaks for itself.

Umm...I agree with everything you said but...this isn't a hate topic...I just did because I saw a lot of people have a lot of different and even opposite opinions about it. If anything, I'm up for defending EQD .

I think that kind of things could be blamed on the internet rather than EQD itself. Although it is nice they decided to create a whole site just for that. That's entirely possible. I doubt it was any one thing anyway that drove them to do that and trying to analyze the underlining factor would be hard as people's motivations to do things are often very complex.

 

I also want to say I really have enjoyed reading this topic as you have remained neutral thought the discussion and have been able to come with good points on both sides which is something that not a lot of people can do. This is what a true discussion is like and I applaud you on your efforts.

Something a GAME taught me, is that everyone's selfish. There's not a single thing we do that, in one way or another isn't selfish. When a game teaches something like that, it's awesome . Anyway, back to topic. I for one enter and use EQD a lot. As in...I enter there every single day. But, to also give myself variety and other inputs, I also enter DHN and TRS. What I really wanted to know is, if people where just making opinions based on personal experiences rather than a more objective train of thought. I saw that were loving, hating and not too many were neutral, and those are from the people who didn't even go that much. I could agree on the pre-reader inconsistency, because it seemed that either, you got a nice pre-reader, or you got a jerk one. The elitist part (if it really IS like that, or at least that bad) I can't really blame due to how little people runs a site that is VERY big, and is also the most important on the internet to bronies on the media/news/gathering the best of stuff department. After that...there wasn't really something else that I could see that isn't from personal experience. But I do thank you forr comment, and I'm glad I was able to make a decent topic about a theme that was slightly more controversial than I thought (and in my opinion, than should be). I only go to Equestria Daily to read some fanfics and look at some art, but I hardly go to the site now. I haven't been around long enough to understand the negative things about Equestria Daily.
