Episodes you love but everyone else seems to hate.

MMC is my favorite episode.

Ever.

@AyazeTC,

The Nocturnal Critic's reaction to PYHD:

Fluttershy is my favorite pony character person ever.

That is legitimately PAiNFUL to watch.

It makes me cringe and want to never experience anything ever again.

It is more nightmare fuel than this image:

The only episode I know for sure that everyone hates is MMDW.

While I don't approve of the Mane 6 in that episode, I thought it was a great episode for Rainbow Dash and she was very well characterized in it, not to mention it being relevant to her character development.

@Stellafera,

My only regret with TMMDW is the other Mane 5 didn't just try to talk it out first.

If that was a scene in the episode, I would easily place it as one of the best Rainbow Dash episodes. As of now, I have to love it for the Dashie and kinda ignore the whole "terrible friends" part of it.

Equestria Games and Griffon the Brush Off are actually two of my top 10 episodes of all time, lol.

Owl's Well that Ends Well - It reminded me of the only good model-made Thomas Special, The Great Discovery.

Games Ponies Play - It honestly managed to be entertaining on a few levels.

Just for Sidekicks - Again, it managed to be pretty entertaining.

The Super Cider Squeezy 6000 - I loved Applejack in this episode. I wish it had more of a clear moral though.

MMMystery on the Friendship Express - It has hilarious moments, plus it combines the two greatest things on Earth, ponies and trains.

That scene is one of the best scenes in the series, sadly the rest of the episode was terrible  >_>

Yes, probably one of the best scenes for Rainbow Dash in the whole show, is in what is probably the fans' most hated episodes. I wouldn't say that anymore, since I feel Rainbow Falls took the cake there.

I know it got a lot of hate, but I really enjoyed "Mysterious Mare Do Well". I was just a fun episode. Rainbow does tend to get a little too full of herself. I think getting a little dose of humility was good for her. Plus, I liked all the "Dark Knight" kind of music we heard throughout the episode. Also, Applejack named her hind legs Bucky McGillicuddy and Kicks McGee. That right there was worth the price of admission!

LOL!

The Show Stoppers, I don't care that it made the CMCs eventual Cutie Marks obvious, nor do I think they were particularly stupid in this episode. What I do KNOW is that the Montage is super adorable and fun and the CMC song is one of the moments that always comes close to first to mind when I think "MLP FIM" I just remember laughing my ass off when I first watched that amazing ridiculous scene back in 2011.

Crystal Empire, It's not my favorite 2 parter, but on my rewatches I noticed that despite lacking a colorful villain the character interactions were frequently great between the main cast and we got a lot of them because there was more time for them. Sombra despite not having much characterziation was still scary and probably the most competent villain in the show, and I love the climax actually. The music and visuals and everything really come together well there and I enjoyed that Spike and Cadance got their heroic moments (And I think letting characters other than Twilight get those sometimes is absolutely essential, it's one of the main reasons RR worked so well too). Structurally I think it's one of the strongest 2 parter's actually.

Magical Mystery Cure, Yes it's rushed, yes it should of been a 2 parter, yes it feels like 2 episodes smashed together and quite honestly I was meh on this episode for a long time. Then I realized I had listened to What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me, A True True Friend and Celestia's Ballad like 50 times each sooooo yeeaaaaahhhhh.

Almost any episode that either got a ton of hate at the beginning or episodes that was liked at first but now gets a ton of hate(like Bridle Gossip)

I'd say Mysterious Mare Do Well. I think it was good of the mane 6 to show RD what it feels like to not be the center of attention. It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also like MMC, but that's mainly because of its great music.

I actually remember when that first aired, when the fandom was pretty much still just on /co/, peopled LOVED it back then. It was one of the most popular episodes all throughout S1, no idea what happened there.

Magical Mystery Cure (Some people hate this with a zealous fury)

Feeling Pinkie Keen - It's not promoting religion, there's a line or two of dialogue that is unfortunately placed, but it certainly is not promoting blind faith as people seem to think. Quite the opposite actually.

And there's a few other episodes that I don't quite understand the massive hate they receive, such as MMD, IAEBB, and Baby Cakes.

Edit:

Oh and The Crystal Empire! What the heck? Why does this get hated on? I guess it lives in the shadow of ACW, but still, it's not bad. I think the songs are underrated too. And stop complaining about Sombra! He's just a catalyst for the plot, it's not important for him to be a highly developed villain or anything.

Probably because back then people actually watched the show with a reasonable mindset :P

The whole attitude shift with Bridle Gossip is very strange. That was my favorite episode of season one at one point. Now I don't like it as much, but still it's a pretty funny episode!

Ughhhh, Iv never had much love for the Analyst community, Or at least, Iv never had much love for how much influence they can have on peoples perceptions sometimes.  If you liked or disliked an episode, well then you have your view on it. You don't need one of them to tell you if it's good or bad.

I mean, I like to analyze and review this show too. In fact, I'm subscribed to people like Voice of Reason. It's just, I think his review of Bridle Gossip influenced many people's views on that episode. I remember it being a really liked episode back in 2012 along with practically every episode but Mare do Well. Then these analysts started to pop up and thought criticism met nitpicking apart the tiniest of things and trying way too hard to be a critic by going through great lengths just to declare an episode bad.

Looking through this thread - nearly all of them, apparently? XD There aren't any episodes that I hate or even dislike, really - of course there are some I like better than others, and some could have been better written or handled things differently etc, but I can usually find something to enjoy about even those ones. :squee:

But Putting Your Hoof Down is a big one, I guess - it's not my favourite and I understand why fellow Flutterfans don't like it, but to me the idea of Fluttershy maybe having some anger issues she can't express (hence the rare outbursts like in The Best Night Ever) is really fascinating, because it adds depth to her character - she doesn't know how to assert herself, so maybe, following Iron Will's advice, she lets out some of that repressed anger towards the ponies who usually ignore/take advantage of her. I guess it's more a headcanon-y reading of that episode, but it works for me - and I also think it's a really great, important lesson that you can stand up for yourself without being a dick about it. Fluttershy calmly telling Iron Will "no" is a great moment (and Rarity and Pinkie's reactions :P).

Kind of similarly, also a big Rarity fan and I don't think she was OOC in Sonic Rainboom :x it seems perfectly plausible and IC at that point in the series that she could get carried away by her shiny new wings/all the attention and not notice how Rainbow Dash feels. It's not her finest hour for sure, but she realises that in the end and learns from it. I guess, basically, I like when my faves have flaws because it makes them more interesting and relatable, to me? They make mistakes, sure, some bigger than others, but they (nearly?) always own up to and learn from them in the end. Kinda necessary with the show' "lesson" format, but also satisfying character development, IMO - none of the M6 are exactly the same as they were in S1 after all, and they all still mess up sometimes and have their flaws, just like everyone, but they're all good ponies who genuinely care about each other and that's what makes me love and root for them. idk, probably not making much sense here sorry but yeah :please:

A Friend In Deed could probably apply to that, too...a lot of it is Pinkie being obnoxious and oblivious and CDD getting humiliated, which is hard to watch at times and I do feel sorry for Cranky, but I can't hate her for it because she genuinely is just trying to help and do everything she can to make him happy. Again, a very flawed approach in doing so but Pinkie/the narrative realises that in the end.

I also love Power Ponies because YAY SUPERHEROES :P It was a bit filler-ish I guess but still tons of fun.

And I had no idea Simple Ways was hated! :o it's one of my faves of S4, definitely one of the funniest eps ever IMO (mostly for country!Rarity) with some lovely Rarijack friendship and a good if slightly cliche moral. Do people just dislike it because of the Rarity/Trenderhoof stuff? *curious*

(Yeah, I'm really not a fan of most critics, because I feel like a lot of them just nitpick really tiny/stupid stuff and treat MLP like some super serious show instead of applying cartoon logic etc. also just the whole treating opinion as fact, "I don't like this thing therefore it is objectively terrible and you're stupid/wrong/a bad person if you think otherwise". ugggghhh just shut up and let me enjoy my silly talking horse show in peace >_< /end rant)
