Mint Should be okay and run fine, Crunchbang however would probbaly be smoother and faster since its meant for older computers,

here is a list of distro's meant for older systems http://distrowatch.c...rs#distrosearch

that system isnt that bad though, the newest distros are just getting a little heavy for 512MBs i have gotten linux running well on

a 128MB P3 (used puppy linux).

Awesome website. You know, I've been looking for that transparent system information panel on Crunchbang as a Windows 7 widget. You know of any out there?

Looks as though I'm one of the few Mac OSX users around these parts.

I never played games on my computer, and just had a faint preference for the Macintosh operating system in general. For the most part however, I'm quite impartial to which OS I happen to use, and tend to ignore the conventional 'X is better than Y due to Z' justifications; all systems tend have their ups and downs, dependant upon one's perspective.

I beleive that panel is called Conky, as for Windows Conky is not availble, however searching online you could try Coolmon, BGInfo, TinyResMeter, and Rainmeter, also somone mentioned this is the closest to conky

I found an amazing program that is identical to Conky , but for Windows. It uses 0.000000001% of system resources and is customized via an *.ini file. The screen below is from the dev's site.

At home, I use Win7 Pro x64 on my desktop and Win7 Home x64 on my laptop.

At work, I have Win7 Pro x64 running on both my desktop and laptop, though I frequently work on computers running WinXP Pro, Win7 Pro (x86 and x64), Mac OS 10.4, Win2003 Standard (x86), Win2008 Standard and Enterprise (x64) and Ubuntu Linux Server (x64).

I'm using Windows 8 developer preview. To put it bluntly- it sucks. The Metro UI is trash, and although it is quite fast and stable, the Metro UI just gets in the way.

As for my mobile OS, Android. The new ICS update is just amazing. Makes my Samsung Captivate feel like a brand new phone. (Um, unofficial update, nonetheless, but the point is that ICS is amazing.)

Windows 7 Ultimate on desktop, Home Edition on laptop, and Professional on work desktop. I've also got an old IBM with XP but it needs a new hard drive.

Ubuntu 10.04. I'm getting 12.04 soon, when it comes out in April.

I can't wait.

By the way, mine and Twilight's personalities have a lot of similarities, maybe hardly any difference. I checked.

So, what operating system does everyone use and why?

I mainly use Windows, but i do sometimes use Mac and i have used Linux a few times.

I use windows purely because its the most compatible OS although i would be happy to switch if there were another OS just as compatible (without the use of an emulator).

Since i'm a gamer i prefer Windows. Hardly any problems at all, if any.

Mac OS if for those who produce music and such. And Linux i can't really give a buck xP

I use Windows Vista. I've had the computer forever and have not had all the problems people say they have when using it. I'm also too lazy to upgrade to 7 since I'm broke and I'm not pirating it.

I prefer windows, only because im a gamer. Im stuck with Ubuntu(Linux OS), because it was free and i ran out of money making my computer....lol

Macs are nice OS and they don't get viruses as easily as windows, but don't play games like as well as windows. Ubuntu though is nice for web surfing and not getting viruses.
